WHO’S WHO IN THE WORLD OF POLITICAL CARTOONS?
FORMER PRESIDENT OF SOUTH AFRICA:Nelson R. Mandela (Madiba/Tata)
A truly great man – he served as this country’s first black president until he gave the position over to the
then deputy president of the ANC – Thabo Mbeki.
Nelson Mandela was a freedom fighter in the years of Apartheid and because of his involvement in the struggle – he was imprisoned for almost 27 years!!
FORMER PRESIDENT OF SOUTH AFRICA:Thabo Mbeki
Considered a possible candidate to “fill Mandela’s shoes”
However, he was soon regarded as an unfit and rather useless president
because he spent most of his time out of South Africa - helping other countries solve their problems.
CURRENT PRESIDENT OF SOUTH AFRICA:
President Jacob Zuma was the deputy president of the ANC before he became president of the
organisation and the country. He obtained his position after Mbeki’s
humiliating defeat at an ANC NEC Meeting to select a presidential candidate.
Jacob Zuma is a controversial man – he has 4 wives,
approximately 22 children and has been accused of fraud and
other crimes. He is almost always drawn with a shower over his head – a link to his belief that taking a shower
after having unprotected sex can prevent AIDS.
HELEN ZILLE: LEADER OF THE DEMOCRATIC
ALLIANCE (Opposition Party)
She is an outspoken lady who is either
well respected and loved or hated. She often questions the
way the ANC is running our country.
Her party currently controls the Western
Cape – one of the more efficient
provinces in SA.
JULIUS MALEMA: LEADER OF THE
ANC YOUTH LEAGUE.
He is known throughout the country and the
world for his ridiculous and often offensive
comments. He is drawn as a baby – because of his childish behaviour and
inability to control himself.
ROBERT MUGABE: PRESIDENT OF ZIMBABWE
He has ruled over his country for over 20 years. In that time, Mugabe has turned Zimbabwe from one of Africa’s most prosperous nations to a land destroyed by his madness.People barely survive from day to day, there is corruption, murder, racism and absolute chaos – all of which is occurring just outside our border. He is a dictator in the mould of Hitler himself.
