Backpacker: a hiker who wears a backpack.

SOHO: a word short for small office, home office. It represents those freelancers working right at home.

Freelancer: a writer or other trained worker who sells his /her own work to a number of employers.

• DINK 是英语 Double Income No Kids 的缩写形式。近年来,受现代思潮影响,有不少青年夫妇,双双有良好的职业和收入,婚后却不要孩子,被称为 “丁克一族”,“丁克”家庭的夫妇主张摆脱传统婚姻中传宗接代的观念,倾向于过有质量、自由自在的两人世界生活。加之他们要发展自己的事业,希望过轻松的生活,所以尽管有的人很喜欢小孩,但都选择推迟甚至放弃生育。

• “ 背包客” (backpacker) 是人们对一些自助旅游者的称呼,他们是观察体验其他国家、地区人们生活方式的人,因为他们想要认识、了解、体验其他地方人们的生活,所以 “背包客”会去研究各地历史、地理、风俗、民情,他们的这种自助旅游方式,不仅适用于国外旅游,同样适用于国内旅游。背包是 “背包客”的第一装备,所以称之为“背包客”。

• 通俗地说,自由职业者 (freelancer) 就是“自雇劳动者” (self-employed worker) ,或者说是崇尚自由又有一技之长的非上班族。他 / 她们通常以家为单位,通过各自招数(主要是互联网)觅“活”创收。可能是因为资讯传播效率的极大提高,加上人们向往无拘无束生活的念头愈发强烈,于是,这种不拘朝九晚五带点个人英雄主义色彩的工作方式近年来得到了较快的发展。起初以年轻人居多,以作家、设计、编程、艺员居多,而后则呈现出各年龄段多行业均有人跃跃欲试的景况。

• SOHO 是英文 small office home office 的缩写,起源于美国 80 年代中后期。意即“小型家庭办公室”,也就是说,将办公室放在家里或独自租用一个小办公室,一个人顶起一片事业的天空。特指那些在家办公的自由职业者,包括作家、撰稿人、自由音乐人、画家、美编、职业玩家、网络代理人员、网站设计人员、网络主持等。
