    1) What is Microsoft Word?

    Microsoft word is a word processing tool that

    helps you to create professional quality

    documents and share informationin print,

    e-mail, and on the Web. You can include text,

    data and graphics. This application allows you

    to create just the style and type of word-

    processed documents you need.

    2) What is the Standard Bar/ Formatting Bar/

    Drawing Bar

    Microsoft word has a number oftoolbars as seen in [Figure ]. To displayor hide toolbars:

    1. Go to View menu and select Toolbarscommand from the drop down menu,which will display the submenu or Clickright mouse button on any toolbar.

    2. Select the toolbar you wish to display orhide by clicking on it. Toolbars with mark indicate that these toolbars are

    currently displayed.

    Moving Cursor Around The Document

    USING MOUSE POINTER I Position the mouse pointer at the new location and

    click. The cursor moves to the new location. USING KEYBOARD KEYS

    Press these keys To move

    Right arrow () One character to the right

    Left arrow () One character to the left

    Up arrow () Up one line

    Down arrow () Down one line

    Beginning of next word

    Beginning of current or previous word

    Previous screen

    Next screen

    Beginning of the document

    To Select Do This

    Any amount of text Click and drag over the text.

    A word Double click the word or place cursor anywhere in the word.

    A graphic Click the graphic.

    A line of text Moves mouse pointer to the left of the line until it changes to a right

    pointing arrow, and then click.

    Multiple line of text Moves mouse pointer to the left of the line it changes to a right

    pointing arrow, and then click and drag up or down.

    A sentence Hold down key, and click anywhere in the sentence.

    A paragraph Moves mouse pointer to the left of the line until it changes to a right

    pointing arrow, and then double click or triple click anywhere in the

    paragraph.

    Multiple paragraph Moves mouse pointer to the left of the line until it changes to a rightpointing arrow, and then double click and drag up or down.

    A large block of text Click at the start of the selection, scroll to the end of the selection,

    and then hold down key and click at the finishing point.

    An entire document Moves mouse pointer to the left of the line until it changes to a right

    pointing arrow, and then triple click.

    DESELECTING TEXT/OBJECTS

    USING MOUSE: To deselect any amount of

    text or objects you have selected, just click

    anywhere on the document. USING KEYBOARD: To deselect any amount

    of text or objects you have selected, just

    press one of the arrow keys.

    Opening Documents

    1. Click File menu and chooseOpencommand. Open dialog box will

    appear.

    2. Locate the file you are looking eitherunder Look in: drop down box or Places

    Bar. Use Search command under TOOLS

    button to search if youre not sure the

    location or exact file name.

    Closing A Document

    1. Click File menu and choose Closecommand.

    2. If unsaved changes have been made to

    your document, Microsoft Word willprompt a dialog box as shown in figure

    and you have a chance to save the

    document prior to closing.

    TO COPY TEXT/GRAPHICS

    1. Select the text or graphics you want to copy.

    2. Click Copy button on the standard toolbar. Now the

    copied item is placed on the Clipboard.

    3. Move cursor to the position where you want to paste.

    4. Click Paste button on the standard toolbar to paste the

    copied item.

    TO MOVE TEXT/GRAPHICS1. Select the text or graphics you want to move.

    2. Click Cut button on the Standard toolbar.3. Open the document in which you want to paste and

    position the cursor at the appropriate place

    4. Click Paste button on the Standard toolbar.

    1. Select the text or graphics you want to move.

    2. Click and drag the selected text or graphics to where you want to

    move it.3. Leave mouse button.

    TO COPY TEXT/GRAPHIC WITH DRAG & DROP METHOD

    1. Select the text or graphics you want to copy.2. Hold down key as you click and drag the selected

    text or graphics to where you want to copy it.

    TO DELETE TEXT/GRAPHICS

    1. Select the text or graphics you want to delete.

    2. Press key

    3. Use key to delete one character to the left.

    4. Use key to delete one character to the right.

    Saving Document

    Saving An Unnamed Document1. Click File menu and choose Savecommand. Save as dialog

    box will appear as shown in figure.

    2. Type the name of the document in the File name text box.The document name can be as long as 255 characters, butits advisable to make it short for easy reference andidentification.a. To save the document in different folder or drive, choose different

    folder or drive form Save in: drop down box or click a differentfolder at Place Bar column.

    b. To save the document in a new folder, click Create New Folderbutton.

    c. For more option on saving, click Tools drop down menu on the SaveAs dialog box.
