+ VISION + We desire to see people encounter the love of God that is seen in Jesus Christ and experienced through the Holy Spirit, through our lives, and through atmosphere. We want to be used by God to raise up a generation of people with a genuine faith and love that transforms every part of who they are in the world around them. We desire to see people just simply Love God, Love People, and Love to Serve.

Our desire is to create/design an atmosphere that will grow and nurture lovers, sons, and daughters of God. Why? Because “lovers will always out work workers,” and “Servants can only bring others to a master. Sons are the ones who can point others to their Father.”

We aim to create an atmosphere for people to openly love God in a group setting.

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love… As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. + John 15:9,15 +

My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. + Proverbs 2:1-5 +

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? + Micah 6:8 +

+ Guitar Layer+ Vision To accompany the rest of the band in creating the sound that invites Heaven to come to Earth. Being willing to sacrifice playing in order to better the band. Being able to come under the vision of the Worship Leader(s). Mastering your instrument to the best of your ability.

Role The guitar’s role in worship is understanding where it must be in terms of the layers of the music.

How does the guitar relate to other layers? Guitars are what make the music more interesting and adds colour to the music, but guitars aren’t what makes the music. That being said, there are a lot of times during a worship set where the best thing to do is to not play anything at all. If you are listening to a song when you are practicing it and you don't hear a guitar part, you don't need to add a guitar part. Be comfortable knowing that it’s okay to not play anything. Always try to learn the guitar parts and try to make them your own while still staying true to the original version. Most importantly, remember that you are on stage as a worshiper, not as a guitar player. Expectations • You must practice and be ready to play the songs before coming to practice • You must always continue trying to get better and learning more about your

instrument, such as learning new songs, learning scales/theory • You must be committed to being a part of the worshipping atmosphere here at CSM,

regardless if you are on the worship team that week or not

What music should I listen to? Most of the music that we play is from Hillsong, Hillsong United, Bethel, Jesus Culture, All Sons and Daughters, and John Mark McMillan. The songs will be a available on Planning Center but we recommend that you listen to this style of music as much as you can. We do not expect you to listen only to this style of music, but we need everyone to be on the same page when it comes to the music and the best way to play the music.

+ Drums Layer + Vision The sound of war, sounds of intimacy and the Heartbeat of God. Connect with the Holy Spirit and let the anointing flow. Playing drums is more than just making noise. It is a gift from God and a means to give back to Him.

Role It is the foundation. Drums are important because they give dynamics and feel to the songs. Certain things you can play bring forth expressions of praise to God.

How do drums relate to the other layers? Drums lay a foundation for all layers by keeping time and rhythm for them. The drum and the bass guitar work together to make up the rhythm section.

Expectations • You must practice and be ready to play the songs before coming to practice • You must always continue trying to get better and learning more about your

instrument, such as timing, theory, and expanding your drumming technique • You must be committed to being a part of the worshipping atmosphere here at CSM,

regardless if you are on the worship team that week or not

+ Bass Guitar Layer + Vision To seek our, understand and execute the role of Bass in a worship context and within the context of the vision of the Worship Leader(s). To facilitate that vision with excellence, always looking for ways to serve within the “team” dynamics. To use your gifting as part of a team that leads people to an encounter with Heaven and the One True God.

Role The role of the Bass player really depends on the style of music that is being played. Some styles incorporate more of a “lead” bass guitar style while others depend more on a driving approach that is extremely crucial in supporting the dynamics of a song. The Bass players’ role is to support the rest of the team. Sometimes simple is better and less is more. Really focus on locking in with the drummer and the dynamics of the song.

How does the bass relate to other layers? The bass serves as a part of the foundation for the music and makes up the second half of the rhythm section (drums are the other half). The goal of the bass player is to: a) Lock in with the drummer’s rhythm: b) Provide depth, support and dynamics to the music as a whole.

Expectations • You must practice and be ready to play the songs before coming to practice • You must always continue trying to get better and learning more about your

instrument, theory, scales, and expanding your bass playing technique • You must be committed to being a part of the worshipping atmosphere here at CSM,

+ Piano/Keyboard Layer + Vision To seek our, understand and execute the role of Piano/Keyboard in a worship context and within the context of the vision of the Worship Leader(s). To facilitate that vision with excellence, always looking for ways to serve within the “team” dynamics. To use your gifting as part of a team that leads people to an encounter with Heaven and the One True God.

Role The role of the piano/keyboard player in a worship context can very depending on the style of music and context in which you play. For example, in the context of a full band, a Piano/Keyboard is a key support instrument providing a platform of rat entire song. This ( full band) will be the most common dynamic in which you will serve at CSM. The best way to understand you role is to listen to lots of music that we play, such as Hillsong or Bethel. It’s key that you listen and become familiar with songs and styles that we play.

Expectations • You must practice and be ready to play the songs before coming to practice • You must always continue trying to get better and learning more about your

instrument, theory, scales, and expanding your Piano/Keys technique • You must be committed to being a part of the worshipping atmosphere here at CSM,

regardless if you are on the worship team that week or not

+ Vocals Layer + Vision We as vocalists are to support the vision of the Worship Leader and CSM by using our gifts and talents for His glory as we create an environment for the Youth Group to participate in Worship. We are given the honour and the privilege to sing directly from our hearts to our Father’s. He loves to hear us proclaim our worship to Him

Role As a Vocalist, we are given the opportunity to lead others in songs of worship and adoration. our role is to be an example of and to encourage others in addable worship to our Lord and Saviour. It’s not just about singing a song. it’s about connecting with out Father on another level of intimacy on and off the stage. Our role isn;t to sing because we are good singers, but to sing out of love for Him.

How do Vocals relate to other layers? Vocals add depth and more of a fullness to the sound. The intent isn't for the vocals to stand out, but to compliment the instruments and the Worship Leader(s) while encouraging the Youth Group to worship God.

Expectations • You must practice and be ready to play the songs before coming to practice • You must always continue trying to get better and learning more about your voice • Listen to the songs that are given and try and pick our specific melodies and

harmonies that you can hear and practice them • Try your best to memorize the songs so you are not looking at a sheet of paper the

whole time but so that you can engage with the audience and with the words. • You must be committed to being a part of the worshipping atmosphere here at CSM,

regardless if you are on the worship team that week or not

+ Planning Center + What is Planning Center? Planning Center is a great resource that we use here at CSM. It is an awesome way for the Worship Leader(s) to connect with the rest of the team and for the team to all be able to access everything they need for the upcoming serve opportunity. Planning Center is used by thousands of churches worldwide because of it’s user friendliness and ability to connect everyone.

How to use Planning Center Since joining CSM you should have received an email that will connect you to Planning Center. If you have not, send me an email at [email protected] and I will get you connected. The email you receive should look like this…

You can click on the “Click here to set your password” link in the blue box to get started. It should from there take you to your internet browser where you will be prompted to add a password. Do this. After that you can then log in.

The Planning Center Homepage will then pop up and you can feel free to look around on that. On the left hand of the screen you will have a Calendar called My Calendar. From there you can block off days that you are not able to be on a team or you can see your upcoming schedule. It should look like this…

In the middle of the screen should be a drop down menu that says My Schedule. This is where you will see any Upcoming Plans that you have been scheduled for. It looks like this…

If you click on this, it will take you to the Plan. On this page you can see many different things, such as on the left side you can see everyone else who will be on the team and your service and rehearsal times, or in the middle of the screen you can see the plan for the service, and on the right you can see any attachments.

Here is what you should see when you are looking at the plan for the service… (This is a past plan so your plan may look slightly different to this one)

If you look at the song This Is Amazing Grace for example, you can immediately see that it is in the Key of A and if you look to the right of the song you will see there is a grey box with a number in it, this is where you will find any attachment(s) for the song by “hovering” over the number with your mouse.

You can listen to the song by clicking the attachment ending in .m4a. You can view the lyrics of the song by clicking the attachment that ends in -lyrics.pdf. You can view the

song along with its chords by clicking the attachment that ends in A.pdf (the letter will change depending on the key, i.e. A.pdf, E.pdf, G.pdf etc). There may also be a media attachment such as a YouTube link connected which will show up in the Media Attachment section.

The Worship Leader may want to send a note to go along with the song, so if you hover over the song title, there will be a blue conversation bubble that will have a number in it. Clicking on that will bring up any notes.

This should be the majority of what you will need to know, but like previously stated, feel free to look around on Planning Center and try and get familiar with it! Don’t hesitate to email me with any questions regarding Planning Center.

+Worship As A Lifestyle + We often hear the phrase “Worship is a lifestyle”. What does this really mean? It simply means to live a life of love. To love extravagantly. The first commandment is to Love the Lord your God with All your heart, All your soul, and with All your mind. You make a heart and mind decision to continually seek first the Kingdom of God and to OBEY the Spirit of God in your life, as He calls you on the a greater and deeper knowledge of Himself.

Worship requires something of you, and that is OBEDIENCE.

Why do people cringe away from obedience? We believe it is because it requires a response. John 14:12 says, “Whoever has my command and OBEYS them, he is the one who LOVES me. My Father will love him who LOVES me, and I too will LOVE him and show myself to him.”

And verse 23 says, “If anyone LOVES me, he will OBEY my teaching. My Father will LOVE him and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not LOVE me will not OBEY me. These words you hear are notify own, they belong to my Father who sent me.” LOVE and OBEDIENCE are tied together.

Every time you open up your heart in obedience to God and worship Him with all your heart, all your mind and all your soul, our beautiful Lord responds with His magnificent presence. You need to continually be in the presence of God. Not only on Sundays or at Youth Group, but in that secret place that maybe only you and the Lord will ever know about.

“Singing is easy. The proof is always in the living, or even in the dying.” Matt Redman

“You were not created to sing. You are created to heal the sick, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and set the oppressed free. Freely you have received, now freely give. This is worship.” Adam Cooke

“What you worship, you become.” Unknown

“Worship is not singing, it’s an expression.” Kim Walker

+ Scripture Reference +  So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. + Romans 14:12-14 +

Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.  For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? + 1 Corinthians 8:8-10 +

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love. + Ephesians 4:1-2 +

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct. + 1 Peter 1:13-15 +

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. + Romans 12:1-2 +

For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.  Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. + 1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 +
