Kurt Bundrock Kurt Bundrock  (6 February 1917 – 6 February 1998) was a highly decorated  Oberfeldwebel  in the  Luftwae during  World War II . He was also a recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross. The Kni ght’s Cro ss of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battle- eld bravery or successful military leadership. During his caree r he par tic ipated in 130missi on s as a radio ope rat or. 1 Career Kurt Bund ro ck wa s bo rn on 6 Febr ua ry 1917 in Berlin-Schöneberg. He joined the I.  Gruppe  of Zerstörergeschwader 1  (I./ZG 1 — 1st group of the 1st Destroy er Wing) as a radio operator on 1 May 1940. To- gether with the pilot  Reinhold Knacke  he participated in the Battle of France. Both of them transf erred to nig ht ghter force on 26 June 1940 and were assigned to the I. Gruppe of Nachtjagdgeschwader 1 (I./NJG1 1s t grou p of the 1st Night Fighter Wing). He participated in 37 of Knacke’s aerial victories.  Hauptmann Knacke was killed in action by the defence re of a British bomber on the night of 3/4 February 1943. Bundrock was able to save hims elf with the parac hute. He then became the radio operator of Werner Streib in June 1943. 1 Career

Kurt Bundrock was born on 6 February 1917 inBerlin-Schöneberg. He joined the I.   Gruppe   ofZerstörergeschwader 1 (I./ZG 1 — 1st group of the 1stDestroyer Wing) as a radio operator on 1 May 1940.
