Kurt Bundrock
Kurt Bundrock (6 February 1917 – 6 February 1998)was a highly decorated Oberfeldwebel in the Luftwaffeduring World War II. He was also a recipient of theKnight’s Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight’s Cross ofthe Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battle-field bravery or successful military leadership. During hiscareer he participated in 130 missions as a radio operator.
1 Career
Kurt Bundrock was born on 6 February 1917 inBerlin-Schöneberg. He joined the I. Gruppe ofZerstörergeschwader 1 (I./ZG 1 — 1st group of the 1stDestroyer Wing) as a radio operator on 1 May 1940. To-gether with the pilot Reinhold Knacke he participated inthe Battle of France. Both of them transferred to nightfighter force on 26 June 1940 and were assigned to the I.Gruppe of Nachtjagdgeschwader1 (I./NJG 1 — 1st groupof the 1st Night Fighter Wing). He participated in 37 ofKnacke’s aerial victories. Hauptmann Knacke was killedin action by the defence fire of a British bomber on the
night of 3/4 February 1943. Bundrock was able to savehimself with the parachute. He then became the radiooperator of Werner Streib in June 1943.[1]
