Caramoan is rapidly changing its face as the tourism boom continues to benefit this sleepy town

which had become one of the top destinations in the Philippines. Now, it has become a major

tourist hub and the demand for good accommodation is continuously growing. Here are some of

the pension houses, guest houses, hostels and resorts that range from the most basic to the top

    end accommodation in the area.

    1. GOTA BEACH RESORT

    Gota Beach Resort Cabanas

Gota Beach Resort is the top end resort in Caramoan recommended for those who dont mind

paying extra for a somewhat more luxurious beach escapade. It has its own beaches which are

also open for the public so it is best to avoid it during weekend (Caramoan residents pay Php150

and php300 for non residents). In 2008, we stayed at this resort just because it was the only

beach resort available at that time that had its own beach. A lot of the time, the beach is occupied

by the crew ofSurvivorso it is often closed for public.

It is also quiet expensive to stay at this resort compared to other resorts in the area now but its

location makes it all worth it. We actually spent most of our time on its beach and only visited the

nearby Malarad Island during our stay. The resort is surrounded by towering limestone cliffs

covered with green vegetation and it has two coves with fine sand, one of which is another jump-

La Casa Roa Hostel Receiving Area

My relatives and I stayed at La Casa Roa Hostel on my second visit at Caramoan this year. I wasfortunate to be able to accompany my balikbayan aunt, her son and her fianc to Caramoan and

guide them around the islands (for free). Normally, I would stay in backpacker s accommodation

on this kind of trip but at the request of my cousin, who had just roughed it out in Calaguas Islands

before we left for Caramoan, we stayed in the very first more-than-decent lodging accomodation

for visitors to Caramoan. The hostel is the private residence ofDr. Nilo Roa and has been

    converted into a cozy hostel.

The hostel has clean and spacious rooms, dining area and living rooms on the first and second

floor. It also has a wide terrace and different types of room to choose from. It is probably the most

expensive accommodation in the town proper we paid around 2400 for an AC room with hot and

cold shower and complimentary breakfast for four. It was ok but I find it isnt really worth staying in

an expensive hotel when you just end up spending most of your time outside anyway. (We arrived

around 5 in the afternoon here and left early the next day for island-hopping).

    3. VILLA JULIANA

    Villa Juliana

On our second day in Caramoan, my relatives and I moved to this brightly colored lodge just two

blocks away from La Casa Roa Hostel. If La Casa Roa was the most expensive lodging in the town

proper, Villa Juliana was the cheapest we could get without compromising quality. The service

and facilities are ok. Its 12 rooms are all air-conditioned with TV and toilet. They also serve food

    and accept paluto.

You can either request for the meal you want or buy it yourself in the market and ask them to cook

it for you. They also arrange island-hopping tours and transfer service from the port. We paid

Php750 for our room (4pax) and they let us checked-in our things early in the morning before we

left forPaniman Beach without extra charge. This place is recommended for students,

backpackers, and those who want a cheap accommodation in the town proper.

    4. CARAMOAN BED AND DINE

Bed and Dine Native Hut Restaurant

Bed and Dine is one of the mid-range accommodations available in the town proper located along

the main road in Barangay Tawog. This pension house is another private residence turned into a

nice lodging accommodation. It has only 3 air-conditioned rooms and it is usually fully-booked

most of the time (advance reservation is a must). Two of its AC rooms have common toilet and its

guests could use the TV in its living room as well as its dining area.

Bed and Dine is also the only trusted and good enough restaurant in the town proper as of now.

Many visitors in Caramoan eat here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is often packed with people

and it is a favorite hang out of foreign tourists, backpackers and local visitors at night.(The food is

quite good but its popularity is more for the lack of competition I guess).

Tama ka, Caramoan is rapidly changing. Nagulat ako when I saw all those cabanas @ Gota Beach. Many years

ago when we went there, it was all bare and natural. I just wished they planted trees to offset what looks like a

    congested village.

    ClairePosted May 12, 2010 at 10:24 AM

Yep and to think its the top end resort there. I think they added even more cabanas now. They are just lucky

they are surrounded with limestone rock formations covered with green vegetation and a nice beach. But at

least now, there are other options for accommodation that are way cheaper.

WOW! So much has changed since last time I went there about 4 or 5 years ago. Its good to know there are a

lot of choices now for tourist to stay in Caramoan. Before it was only 3 or 4. We also had a bad experience with

that pink walled resort. They took out our stuff and moved it to another room without permission. Anyways, great

work and this will be a good reference

    ClairePosted May 18, 2010 at 5:11 PM

    thanks!!

    ClairePosted June 2, 2010 at 6:42 PM

Thanks Donn, Its a fair way for a two-year old to travel by land (more than an hour) and by boat (more than 2

hours) even if you take the plane to Naga but it is possible. The land travel from Naga City to Sabang Port is

quite bumpy at some point but I think you can manage and even better if you take the van.

Hi! I came across your site while trying to find out more about Caramoan. I am planning a trip later this year and

hope you can give any tips for first time traveller to Caramoan, especially on a budget . Thanks!

    ClairePosted July 2, 2010 at 7:51 AM

Hi Elaine. There are many budget-lodges there that you can choose from. Food is relatively cheap also

especially if you will eat in local carinderia. You can also lower the cost of your island-hopping by joining

other group. Try the island hopping in two days to enjoy it more. First one could be the nearer islands like

Matukad and its surrounding area and the second one could be Cotivas, Sabitang Laya, Manlawi etc. But if

you have limited time you can just tailor your trip and talk to the boatman. Enjoy your trip and hope you share

    it with us

    ClairePosted September 21, 2010 at 8:50 PM

Hi Kelly, It really depends whether you would like to stay in a dorm type room like BC Hometel, you share the

room with other people but i guess since you are 10 you could reserve the place they also have non-dorm

type. Its around 300 per head the last time I checked. You can also try Villa Juliana if you want cheap rooms

with AC. It is good for 4 persons so maybe so can reserve 3 rooms. It is up to you really, just compare the

prices on my blog and check which one suits your budget and taste.

Hi Claire, can you give an idea, about going to Caramoan. From Sabang Port ba mag bo-boat ride going to the

islands? how long is the travel time? is it safe to bring kids? How safe is the boat ride?Do they provide life vest

during the boat ride? Thanks and God bless Malou

    ClairePosted January 14, 2011 at 11:48 AM

    Hi Malou,

From Sabang, you may ride a boat to Guijalo Port in Caramoan (about 2 hours or less). They provide life

vest for everyone. I have seen many visitors bring their little ones to the island. As for any boat ride aroundthe Philippines, there is no way to tell hundred percent that it is going to be a safe boat ride. But the boats

are big enough, From the port, you may hire a tricycle to take you to the town proper if thats where your

accommodation is or to Paniman Beach. It is the jump-off for island hopping and they also have

accommodation. There are many boatmen there who will offer you packages for island- hopping. Try not to

commit to anyone yet no matter how tempting the offer is. Ask around first then decide.

Hope you enjoy your trip and dont forget to share your stories to us

    Hi claire!

First things first, thanks for the very comprehensive information on the different accomodation that can be found

in the island. The pics. are truly nice!!! gave us an idea on what we can expect. Thank GOD for bloggers like you

=). Before when things like these were not yet available, i relied heavily on my lonely planet books and those

travel magazines [counting them now made me realize how costly they were, good that dated issues can be

sold almost half the price nowadays =)].

We got some things in common like we are both teachers [except you are so slim =) and well me, loves to eat

thus my e-add was created to figuratively describe me =)] who love to travel mostly the off the beaten track.

One of your reader said you are leaving or left PI already? =( well im pretty sure that wherever you are, you will

continue to inform, humor us with your adventures and i will silently follow your blogs admiringly!!! =)

    Many thanks again, GOD bless

    ClairePosted March 5, 2011 at 1:08 AM

Thank you Maria. Im actually back now in the Philippines. I will leave again this year but not permanently.

One for thing for sure though is that I will continue to blog and soon will launch the lakwatsera de primera

Hi Deine, there are more choices of accommodation in Centro (town proper) and a few at Paniman Beach

    Hi Claire!

We are a family from Albay and we would like to visit Caramoan by road trip via Tiwi. Can you please answer

some questions before we finalize our trip sometime in May 2011?

    1. We are planning for a beach camp for one night and will not check-in in an accommodation. Can you please

recommend a resort or a place for this?

    2. Which road-route is the shortest way from Tiwi to Caramoan?

    3. We would need a local resident as tour guide and caretaker of vehicles. Can you refer somebody?

    Thank you and regards.

    ClairePosted April 16, 2011 at 3:46 PM

    Hi Ed,

    1. My friend told me they rented a banca for 3 nights and camped on the island of their choice every night.

Matukad is a nice place to camp as well as the other islands. You can also camp along the shores of

    Paniman Beach.

    2. Are you going to do it by land all the way to Caramoan? I think its feasible now since its summer but Ive

heard its quite a bumpy ride. Another option is to leave your car at Sabang Port and ride the boat to Guijalo

Port. Im not sure how to do it by car because I had only tried commuting to Caramoan.

    3. I think you can do it on your own, no need for a tour guide, you boatman will be your tour guide as well.

The place is easy to explore. I dont know anyone from Sabang Port but I guess you can just ask favor from

the local to look after you car especially from those who live near the port and leave your car to there, just

    offer something as payment.

    Cheers! Ingat sa byahe po.

    really up to you.

    Hey Ms. Claire,

First and foremost thanks much for your very informative yet helpful blog, you give us idea on where to stay

while in the island. CHEERS for that.

Were planning for a Barkada Trip in CamSurs finest Caramoan Peninsula this July 16-18, 2011. But before we

    finalized our trip, we have some concerns;

First, from wide selection of accommodations, we find West Peninsula as our top choice! Just want to clarify..

For their room rate; small room cost 1,000? or 1K per head? If its 1K per person then we will choose BC

HomeTel instead (were on a budget).

Lastly, In terms of weather condition, is it advisable and safe to visit Caramoan and have island hopping on mid

of July? Hope it will be sunny days but were expecting it will be rainy days (hopes not).. Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance! ,)

    ClairePosted May 24, 2011 at 5:00 AM

    Hi Ben,

The last time I inquired, it was 1000 per room but if youre on a budget I think BC Hometel and Villa Julianna

are also good value for your money. Its safe as long as the weather is good. It may rain from time to time

but rarely that it will rain the whole day.

    benPosted May 24, 2011 at 7:53 AM

    I see..

    Thanks for quick response

Well contact West Peninsula,Hometel & Villa Julliana w/in this week. Lets which is which has a good

    deal! hehehehe

BDW, the said contact infos are still updated/any changes?

    Thanks Much. Keep it up!

    Hi Ms. Claire!

Ask ko lang po madam if gota resort lang po ba ang me lodging and beach at the same time? Im looking for an

avg resort na me beach na po agad (to consume time from island hopping), ung mga tipong beach front style

    po?

And one more concern is hanggang 11am po daw ang last sea transfer to caramoan? Is that true? Are there

other alternatives aside from hiring a private boat?

    Thanks po ulit mam claire!!

    ClairePosted August 21, 2011 at 8:21 AM

HI Jason, there is also lodging option at Paniman Beach, the beach is not as nice at the one in Gota Beach

but the accommodation here is way cheaper. I think the last trip for passenger boat to Caramoan is around

12pm but they usually leave early when full. I dont know any other option aside from hiring a private boat.

(kung marami kayo, pwede namin hati-hati na lang para mas mura)

kaya ung fx/bus terminal and ilang oras kaya travel time? Any details to share?

    Thanks a lot!

    ClairePosted August 28, 2011 at 3:54 PM

Yeah its possible by land but I think its not advisable to do it during the rainy season unless youre on

    4WD.

Paniman Beach ang malapit sa mga is lands kasi jump-off point yun, pero kahit sa centro ka mag-stay, one

tricycle ride away lang to the jump off points.

    Thank you!

    ClairePosted January 16, 2012 at 5:36 AM

Just ride a bus en route to Naga, it stops at Naga Bus Terminal. From there, go to the van terminal in front of

SM Naga and ride a van en route to Sabang Port. You should be at Sabang Port before 12noon to make it to

the passenger boat. If you happen to miss it, just hire a private boat around (P3000) to Guijalo Port in

Caramoan. From here you can hire a tricyle to your chosen accommodation.

    JenPosted February 3, 2012 at 11:29 AM

Would you happen to know the schedule and fee of boats from the Codon Port (near Virac Airport) to the Guijalo

Port? Should we book in advance instead, and if ever, whom can we contact for their services? Thank you!

how much will it cost? i know that tour packages really cost a lot lalo n kung konti lang n tao. im planning po

Hi Nhel, maraming bankero sa jump off points, off peak ka naman pupunta kaya mas makakahaggle ka sa

boat rental. I think madami din independent tourists na naghahanap ng makakasama sa island-hopping,

pwede din kayo makisabay para hati-hati sa boat rental. (around P2500-3000 ang island-hopping package)

Island-hopping is one of the things you can do in Caramoan. If you like undeveloped beaches

then youll probably like it here.
