   Connecting to a Streaming (Live) Conference 

Connecting your computer to a Codian Bridge Streaming Conference

Web Browser   It is recommended that you use only Internet Explorer for connection to the streaming web interface, but most browsers should work.  1. First open up your web browser.  2. Type the following address into the address bar of your web browser.   meetings.etsu.edu   Then hit enter. (You don’t need to type the http://)   

   3. Enter your desired username into the Sign‐in name box. (This name will be displayed in the interface to other participants and to the presenter.)  4. Enter the conference ID number that you were given by the presenter, organization or instructor in the Conference ID box. (Please never share your Conference ID or PIN with anyone.)  5. Next select the Streaming player you would prefer to use in the following web streaming interface. You may choose in a pull down from Quicktime or Windows Media Player.  If your system is up to date then either should work fine.

6. After entering the above information select the Stream This Conference button to begin your conference.

7. If you have entered the information correctly and it is for a valid and running conference then you should see a web page like this.  

  PLEASE NOTE! If your window does not look like the one above (you can’t see the video or you can’t see the content channel) please read the section “Common Audio and Video Problems” starting at the bottom of this page.  9. The different parts of the conference are labeled A,B, and C.     A. This is the live video stream of the originating site.   B. This is a Participant list and will list all the streaming viewers logged into the conference.   C. This is the content channel and will display the originating sites presentation materials. 

 

Troubleshooting   Depending on how up to date your computer’s software is in conjunction with the hardware/software, you may have trouble seeing or hearing the video, seeing the chat, or other problems.  In this section we will try to solve some of the more common problems encountered by users.   Mac OS’s Safari browser has known problems with accessing the bridge. This is known and is a problem 

with safari itself. If you cannot log in on safari try using Mozilla Firefox for the Mac instead. http://www.mozilla.com/en‐US/firefox/

Common Video Audio Problems 

1. No Sound?  Make sure your computer system audio is turned up and that your speakers are on and that they are turned up. 

2. If you chose Windows Media Player for your streaming player option take note that you will probably have to download the .codian codec and install it the first time you log in. You can download it from the streaming webpage right below the player. (shown below)  After installing the Windows Media Player Codec you must close your browser completely and restart a new session. ( See Step. 1) 

 

3. If you chose Quicktime for your streaming media player and are seeing no video or have no audio then you should install the latest version of Quicktime from the following website.

(Make sure to select the second download option to download Quicktime without downloading and installing iTunes.) 

4. If you are having problems seeing the content channels make sure you have the latest edition of Java installed. It can be found here
