Agricultural learning college.One of the youngest high schools

on the North Coast, Shakaskraal Secondary; will celebrate its

thirtieth anniversary next year. The institution's h e r i t a g e w i t h Agriculture dates back to its second year of existence, when in 1988 Agricultural Science was introduced and somehow stopped in 1996.

According to the C h a i r m a n o f t h e A g r i c u l t u r a l committee, Sunjay Bodasing, who is also a long serving educator, c o n s t r u c t i o n i s u n d e r w a y w i t h pe r ime te r f enc ing already and a dam within a very large area of land, already taking shape.

“In 2017, courses in Agriculture will be compulsory for all Grade 8 and 9 learners,” he said.

start now,” said Makhathini.He added that in the ANC,

“mayors are not elected, they are deployed.”

Ilembe Distr ict mayoral candidate, Councillor Sduduzo Gumede said that this is viewed as a huge task. “We would like to say that we will do our best to carry out the responsibilities given to us. We want to improve in such a way that we work as one municipality,” he said.

Seeing the borehole array, the irrigation system, to the uniform growth of spinach and cabbage to visiting the space that will house a h i g h l y t e c h n o l o g i c a l a n d sophisticated Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Centre, was part of an excursion which the school will, when transformed, will host schools closer to KwaDukuza and beyond.

“Educators will be retrained in agriculture and we currently have 10 educators who are volunteering,” said Bodasing.

The schools whole ethos will be geared towards courses that have unique subjects like Agricultural Science, A g r i c u l t u r a l Management Practice and many more to suit all levels of learners academic prowess.

T h e s c h o o l ' s presentation to the D e p a r t m e n t o f Education on Monday, 17 August 2015 last year impressed a 30 member delegation that Shakaskraal Secondary was the ideal choice and t h i s e d u c a t i o n a l institution beat Hill Crest Secondary to get the right to resume on its b i r t h r i g h t s i n c e inception in 1988 1996, to begin anew on its 30 th anniversary and offer the most comprehensive education in the field of

Agriculture in KwaZulu-Natal and probably nationally.

The Ballito Interchange and main road P455 were both constructed for a R186 mi l l ion inves tment in K w a D u k u z a . T h e interchange was also built by the National Department of Transport, through SANRAL totalling R119 million.

KDM co-funded the main road P455, connecting the interchange to the N2 to Ballito town and M4 with the provincial Department of Transport for a combined R67 million.

The investment in the roads projects have served as a catalyst for the development of the R1 billion Ballito shopping mall. During construction, 104 direct jobs were created for R13.8

million and approximately R23 million was spent with b l a c k - o w n e d s m a l l enterprises.

Training opportunities were also created for employees in the engineering f i e l d , w i t h f i v e ( 5 ) engineering students having participated throughout the project.

The Minister, and the Mayor of KwaDukuza visited the site of the scene

where the former Deputy Mayor o f UThungu lu Dis t r i c t Munic ipa l i ty , Thalani Mashaba lost his life in a road crash.

They also paid tribute to 16 other people who lost their lives in a mini-bus and train collision in Shakashead last year.

“I am becoming more and more concerned about the inc reas ing number o f roadside memorials that are

popping up all along our national, provincial and municipal roads.

“While the plethora of crosses and wreaths bears testimony to the grief and love from the loved ones of the accident victims, apart f r o m t h e i r p e r s o n a ls i g n i f i c a n c e , t h e s ememorials also point to a sorry state of affairs on our roads and this breaks my heart,” said Ms Peters.

But so far as a Muslim, a true believer, is concerned, it should be sufficient that fasting is prescribed in the Holy Book of Allah (God Almighty), and as such is the command of the Almighty. Should one seek to justify God Almighty's commands?

The measure of a man's love for his Creator is his unquestioned obedience to the commands of the Creator. When for whole month a Muslim has obeyed God Almighty, unquestioningly, without complaint, without regret, and when he has spent his time in prayers, in humility and in charity, should one wonder, if at the end of this period, the Creator may Himself turn to such creature of

Ramadaan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, is the period when man is subjected to a supreme test. Without compulsion, without coercion, the Muslims throughout the world obey God Almighty; and every day from dawn to sunset abstain not only from sensual pleasures but even from the necessities of life like food and drink. Some do this in shivering cold, some in burning heat, some do it where days are short and

Eid ul-Fitr is the most important festival in the Islamic calendar (Muslim Holiday). The day does not mark any historical event or episode; but its existence provides the Muslim for an occasion to offer thanks to God Almighty for having given him the strength and the will to observe fast during the holy month of Ramadaan

It is also an occasion for prayers when the Muslims gather in large congregations, standing shoulder to shoulder, to demonstrate the equality and equity which is the inherent feature of Islamic society all over the world.

But the greatest significance of this day of rejoicing, lies in the fact that on this day every Muslim is enjoined to give the needy food at the rate of the prescribed weight per every member of his household, including servants and guests who were sheltered under his roof the preceding evening.Eid ul-Fitr then serves a three-fold purpose: It places upon every Muslim the obligation to remember God Almighty and offer Him thanks; it affords him an opportunity of spiritual stock-taking in that he can now ponder over the strength of his will or the weakness of his character, as the case

others where days are interminably long. The rich fast as well as the poor, the master as well as the servant; the parents as well as the child; the ruler as well

as the subject. They all fast, regardless of colour or their social position.

Having done this, for one whole month, today on this auspicious day of Eid ul-Fitr, every Muslim should be ready to face the year that lies ahead with renewed strength, greater understanding and universal goodwill. He has fasted to acquire piety, discipline and self-control. Now the habit of unquestioning obedience to God Almighty is cultivated in his heart and mind. He is now trained to accept the commands of God Almighty, in the remaining eleven months of the year, with the same unwavering loyalty. He has emerged from the month of Ramadaan with a new personality and a stronger character, confident of his ability to subordinate his desire to his will, his emotion to his intellect.No longer will it be difficult for him to refrain from intoxicating drinks; no longer will he turn away from his less fortunate brethren; no longer will he fail to understand and appreciate the pain

of hunger, the pangs of thirst.So the training period of Ramadan has

come to an end. Now we are entering the era of normal activities of life. If the

lessons learnt in Ramadaan have left their marks upon our character, we are

entitled to enjoy Eid ul-Fitr.Eid ul-Fitr, often abbreviated as simply

Eid, is an Islamic holiday of marks the end of Ramadaan; the month of fasting. On the day of the celebration, a typical Muslim family gets up very early and attends special prayers held only for the occasion in big mosques, in large open areas, stadiums or arenas. The festivities and merriment start after the prayers with visits to the homes of friends and relatives and thanking the Creator for all blessings. Eid is a time to come together as a community and to renew friendship and family ties. This is a time for peace for all Muslims in the world to devote to prayers and mutual well-being.

It's a joyous occasion with important religious significance. Happiness is observed at attaining spiritual uplift after a month of fasting. Muslims dress in holiday attire. After attending the special congregational prayer in the morning, worshippers greet and embrace each other in a spirit of peace,

love and brotherhood. Visiting friends and relatives is common.

For Muslims, Eid ul-Fitr is a joyful celebration of the achievement of enhanced piety. It is a day of forgiveness, moral victory and peace, of congregation, fellowship, brotherhood

and unity. Muslims are not only celebrating the end of fasting, but thanking God for the help and strength that he gave them throughout the previous month to help them practice self-control.

Common greetings during this festival are the Arabic greeting: "Kul AamWaAntum Bi Khair", "Eid Saeed" or its Urdu variation "Eid Mubarak" which, loosely translated, means "Happy Eid!"

Things to remember on the day of Eid:

· Take bath before going for prayers· Wear one's best clothes on Eid· Eat before going for the prayers of

Eid. Something as little as dates in odd numbers should suffice.

· Walk to the grounds of Eid prayers. Not mandatory as transportation can be used for those who cannot walk or when the destination is too far.

· Constantly read Takbir (Arabic verses to praise the lord) in audible tone until one reaches the mosque or the prayer ground.

· Take different routes for going to and returning from the prayers.

Palestine and support the diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing about an end to this deadly conflict. May the discipline that you have exercised during the

Directions : • Cut potatoes into quarters.• Apply salt to them.• Deep fry.• Pour oil/ghee in a skillet.• Fry the onions until pink in colour and crisp, remove them and keep aside before adding the cinnamon, cloves and the pastes.• Add cinnamon, cloves, peppercorns, bay leaves and green cardamoms.• Add ginger-garlic pastes.• Fry for 3 minutes.• Add in the washed mutton pieces.• Saute until the mutton gives out its own juices.• Add the slit green chillies.• Add turmeric, chilli and cumin powders.• Mix well.• Saute for 5 minutes, stirring continuously.• Mix in fresh yogurt.• Simmer until the mutton is cooked.• Add salt.• Continue to cook until the oil separates from the meat.• Add finely chopped corriander and mint leaves.• In a separate pot, parboil rice until the grains are half cooked.• Strain the rice.• Spread out the mutton mixture in a heavy bottom pan.• Sprinkle the rice on top.• Add fried potatoes.• Sprinkle saffron milk over this.• Sprinkle crisp fried onions on top.• Cover the platter with a tight fitting lid.• Cook on low flame for 20 minutes.•Serve with plain chilled yogurt and pappadams.

Umvoti dropping drastically

Communities in KwaDukuza are notified of the drastic reduction in production at the Umvoti Waterworks and its successive implications.

Following the shutdown of the plant yesterday (of which residents were notified through the media, loud hailing and flyers) the status of the river levels has unfortunately not improved due to the drought.

As a result of the drought, production at the plant has dropped drastically from 18 million litres a day to approximately 11 million litres a day.

Close to 10 000 consumers, including households and businesses in the following areas are affected: KwaDukuza Central Business District and the surrounding areas of Highridge, Warrenton, Stanger Manor, Townview, Rocky Park, Shakaville, Lindelani, Lot 16, M e m o r y L l o y d s , D o e s b u r g , Mbozambo, Stanger Heights, New Guelderland and Glenhills, which are suppl ied through the Mvot i Waterworks.

Meersing Sobram and Preyan Ganasen beat Preollen Muthusamy and Jason Moodley 2-1 and went on to meet Charlie and Jodie in the first semi-final, Meersing and Preyan wasted no time and removed Charlie and Jodie out of the race with a 2-0 victory and booked themselves a berth in the final.

In the bottom half of the draw, Nine Pillay and Navern Coopsamy beat Julian Pillay and Rowen Pillay 2-1 to book a place in the

Quarters. Kyle Pillay and Paddy Padayachee beat Terrence Subban and Justin 2-1 to set up a place in the quarter final meeting Nine and Navern. Kyle and Paddy proved too strong and defeated Nine and Navern 2-1 and advanced to semi-final. Vinesh Geanballey and Jerry Govender beat Ajen Singh and Devan Gounden 2-1 to meet Pillay and Padayachee in the semi-final. Pillay and Padayachee beat Geanballey and Govender 2-1 and went on to the finals.

The finals was well contested by both teams with support and cheers from their team mates from both sides. However Meersing and

Preyan beat Pillay and Padayachee 2-1 to clinch the Ajen Singh and Family mixed doubles title.

In other darts news a strong team has been selected to represent KDDA in the SA Nationals to be held at Bloemfontein from the 9th to 16th July. The team Paddy Padayachee, Darrel Shanmagum, Charlie Pillay, Nine Pillay, Jodie Naidoo, Devan Gounden, Neeran Somnath and Manager Vigen Murugan hope to bring honour to KwaDukuza Darts Association.

Tonight (Wednesday), KDDA will host the mixed treble darts championship sponsored by Jairaj Singh.
