だから、右の山は taller（その垂直の長さの方が長い）だが、山にある木はhigherのはその標高の方が高

いからです。

私の中学校（Batavia Middle School）と河浦中学校の大違いは選択ということです。アメリカで、普通に、悪い学校だけは制服があります。主の学校はそれを使いません。ですから、中学校で私たちは自由に着られました。長い髪、染めた髪、やピアースの生徒は普通でした。また、生徒と先生は別に食べました。生徒は自由に友達と食堂で座れました。食堂から何を買うか決まられました。それとも、弁当を持って来られました。8学年にいくつかの授業を選ばれました。私は技術が好きじゃありませんでしたので、劇学、美術、ピアノや応急処置を受けました。部活も違いました。音楽とスポーツ以外の部活は一週間に１回行われました。スポーツは一つの季節だけに行われました。ですから、簡単に多くの部活に参加出来ました。７学年にレスリング部が好きじゃなかったなら、次の冬にバスケとボールに参加して、誰も構いませんでした。

アメリカの文化に選択が大事な物ですが私はそれは必ず良いことではないと思います。例えば、毎日友達と食べるのが楽しかったが、友達がない生徒たちは一人で座ることになりました。また、ある生徒はコーラ、フライドポテトなどの健康に悪い食べ物だけ食べました。一般的に生徒たちは食べ物を沢山捨てました。　従って、選択はいいことが、私達は選択があれば、悪い決定をすることがあると思います

A big difference between my middle school (Batavia Middle School) and Kawachu is choice. In America, usually only bad schools have uniforms (制服). Most schools don’t use them. So, in middle school, we could dress freely. Students with long hair, dyed hair (染めた髪), and piercings (ピアース) was normal. Also, teachers and students ate separately. Students could sit freely with their friends in the cafeteria (食堂). If we wanted, we could change seats everyday. We could also choose what to buy from the cafeteria or bring a lunch from home if we wanted. In 8th grade we could choose some of our classes. I didn’t like shop (技術), so I took drama (演劇の授業), art, piano, and first aid (応急処置). School clubs and sports were different too. Clubs only met once per week, and sports met everyday but only for one season. So, it was easy to join many clubs or do many sports in one year. If you didn’t like wrestling in 7th grade, you could do basketball the next winter, and no one cared.

Choice is very important in American culture, but I think that it’s not always good. For example, eating with my friends everyday was fun, but other students had to eat alone because no one wanted to sit by them. Also some students only bought unhealthy (健康に悪い) food like pop (コーラ) and French fries (フライドポテト) everyday. In general students threw away a lot of food. So, I think choice is a good thing, but sometimes we if we have choice, we’ll make bad decisions
