The Ruckus Wireless ZoneFlex 7942 is the rst centrallymanaged, multimedia Wi-Fi access point that unleashes thepromise o 802.11n, delivering unparalleled throughput.
Together with the Ruckus ZoneDirector central WLAN con-
troller, Ruckus ZoneFlex Access Points (APs) plug-and-playwith minimal operational overhead. Ideal or hotels, schools, airports and medium-sized businesses with little or no ITsta and a limited budget, the Ruckus ZoneFlex 7942 is alsoper ect or hotspot operators that want to deliver business-class hotspot services — such as voice over Wi-Fi, IP-basedvideo or secure enterprise access.
802.11n carries the promise o high data rates and through-put. The Ruckus ZoneFlex 7942 delivers on this promise byensuring that the advanced techniques used in 802.11n, suchas spatial multiplexing, channel bonding and rame aggrega-tion, are optimized.
The ZoneFlex 7942 implements Ruckus-patented BeamFlex ™ smart antenna technology that enables consistent, high per-ormance, extended coverage and multimedia support asit automatically tunes itsel to adapt to constant changes inthe environment. This means ewer APs, more satis ed users, and a cost-e ective system that can be installed anywhereby non-wireless experts.
A web-based wizard allows any computer user to con g-
ure ZoneFlex 7942s through the ZoneDirector — creatinga secure and sophisticated WLAN in a matter o minutes.Ruckus ZoneFlex 7942s simply plug into any Ethernet net-work and automatically discover the ZoneDirector. No RFtuning. No client con guration. A true plug-and-play multi-media WLAN that is ready to use.

ZoneFlex 7942 802.11n Smart Wi-Fi Access Point
Ultra High Per ormance and Cost E ectiveBased on the IEEE 802.11n standards, the Ruckus ZoneFlex 7942 sup-ports up to 300Mbps o data capacity. What di erentiates the ZoneFlex7942 is the integration o patented Ruckus BeamFlex Smart antennatechnology that automatically adapts to the RF environment by steeringWi-Fi signals on the best path, while rejecting inter erence in real time.
Each Ruckus ZoneFlex 7942 comes equipped with a state-o -the-art,high-gain smart antenna array designed to deliver unsurpassed densityand range. Supporting up to 100 simultaneous data users or 20 concur-rent voice calls while its superior coverage reduces the number o APsrequired, the Ruckus ZoneFlex 7942 delivers the industry’s the mostcost-e ective 802.11n Wi-Fi solution.
Simple DeploymentThe sel -optimizing Ruckus BeamFlex technology allows the RuckusZoneFlex 7942 to be installed without site survey and RF planning.Simply plug any Ruckus ZoneFlex 7942 into an Ethernet and it automati-cally discovers the Ruckus ZoneDirector and sel -con gures.
The Ruckus ZoneFlex 7942 and ZoneDirector system seamlesslyintegrate with existing security systems such as rewalls, intrusiondetection systems and authentication servers including RADIUS andActiveDirectory. An internal authentication database lets enterprisesimplement user authentication without the expense and complexityassociated with external authentication servers.
Simple ConfgurationRuckus ZoneFlex 7942 APs are automatically con gured by the RuckusZoneDirector. A network o APs can be centrally con gured in a mattero minutes through the ZoneDirector’s web-based wizard.
SmartMesh Increases Flexibility, Reduces CostsRuckus SmartMesh enables sel -organizing and sel -healing wirelessmeshing. SmartMesh eliminates the need to run Ethernet cabling toevery Smart Wi-Fi AP, allowing administrators to simply plug ZoneFlexAPs into any power source, then walk away. All con guration and man-agement is delivered through the ZoneDirector Smart WLAN plat orm.Leveraging patented Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi technology that providesextended range and dynamic signal controls, SmartMesh minimizes the
inter-nodal hops that can degrade per ormance, automatically adaptsWi-Fi connections between nodes to environmental changes, andrequires ewer APs to be deployed.
Automatic User SecurityUsed with the Ruckus ZoneDirector, the Ruckus ZoneFlex 7942 pro-vides rst-o -its-kind automatic, robust user security en orcement.Provisioning secure wireless access o ten involves con guring all theclient devices with a wireless setting such as an SSID and encryption key.Typically organizations use a single pre-shared key or all employees. This is a security problem and an ongoing operational headache.
A patented smart antenna array integrates six high-gainvertically-polarized and six horizontally-polarized antennaelements. This enables up to 4096 potential antennacombinations and up to 9 dBi gain, thereby deliveringunprecedented range extension and signal reliability. Thedual polarized smart antenna increases the e ectiveness o spatial-multiplexing, resulting in higher data rates.
Smart Wi-Fi 802.11n Multimedia Access Point
802.11n and BeamFlex ™:
A Winning CombinationA undamentally new approach to Wi-Fi, 802.11nexploits advances and new techniques such asspatial multiplexing, channel bonding and rameaggregation to deliver higher data rates.
While theoretical data rates o 300 Mbps orhigher are advertised by vendors, actual andconsistent user throughput is an order o magnitude less. This is because current 802.11nproducts don’t make optimal use o these newtechniques. Ruckus BeamFlex makes it happen.

Ruckus patent-pending Dynamic PSK on the Ruckus ZoneDirectorand ZoneFlex 7942 automates this process to assure integrity o the user authentication system. First-time users simply plug theircomputers into the LAN and speci y a URL that directs them to acaptive portal or a one-time authentication. Upon authentication, the ZoneDirector automatically con gures the user’s system with thedesignated SSID and a unique, dynamically-generated encryptionkey. The key can be removed automatically upon expiration or manu-ally when the user or their device is no longer trusted.
Business-Class, Multimedia Hotspots
The ZoneFlex 7942 now lets operators build a new class o hotspotsand o er multimedia hotspot services. Equipped with dual-polarizeddirectional antenna system, the ZoneFlex 7942 delivers stable con-nectivity to any Wi-Fi-enabled handheld device and ficker- ree sup-port or concurrent video streams and voice over Wi-Fi calls.
Di erentiated Services with Multiple SSIDsUp to eight discrete SSIDs can be con gured within each RuckusZoneFlex 7942, each with unique broadcast, QoS, security andmanagement parameters assigned. This enables hot zone opera-tors to easily o er tiered services to di erent user or tra c types.Enterprises can use this eatures to di erentiate guest, contractorand employee access policies or to segment di erent tra c types.
Dynamic RF ManagementA Ruckus ZoneFlex WLAN is inherently RF-coordinated as BeamFlexautomatically steers Wi-Fi signals toward each receiver and awayrom noise in real time. And unlike omni antennas, Ruckus BeamFlexdoes not constantly radiate in all directions, thereby minimizing thechances o adjacent AP inter erence. As a last resort, the RuckusZoneDirector can dynamically exert control over the RF channelassignment and transmit power levels on the ZoneFlex APs to urtheroptimize the RF environment without manual intervention.
