Five Elements Generally Foundin Paul’s Opening Salutations (Greetings)

1. Identification of the author: Paul (and others with him)2. Identification of the recipient: church(es), individual(s)3. Identification of divine persons: God and Jesus Christ4. Identification of divine work: cross, resurrection, hope, life5. Identification of divine blessing: grace, peace, mercy

Page 12:

保羅捍衛他的權柄• An apostle by the will of God, not men (1:1) (是神所指

派 )• Jesus gave him the gospel by revelation (1:12) (是神所啟示的福音 )• Formerly persecuted God’s church and wanted to

destroy it (1:13)• God separated him from womb and called him through

grace! (1:15) (是神所揀選 )• God made Paul a preacher to Gentiles (1:16) (是神所差

Accepted by the other apostles (1:24)

Page 13:

11-12 Jesus Christ taught Paul directly13-14 Paul didn’t get his gospel from

his earlier life15-17 Paul didn’t get his gospel from other

teachers18-24 Only stayed in Jerusalem 15 days during

his first visit, and had limited contact with Peter and James

Page 14:

He personally persecuted God’s

ecclesia & tried to destroy it (v.13)• Paul was zealous for the traditions

of the fathers (v.14) – no man could have changed him!

• God called Paul through His grace (v.15)• God decided to reveal His Son in Paul, so he

could preach to Gentiles (v.16)

Page 15:

(1:1; Mt. 21:25; Col. 3:17; 1 Pet. 4:11)

(1:1; Acts 2:24; Eph. 1:19-20)

• They were secretly brought in (2:4)• Spied out Paul’s liberty in Christ Jesus

– Pretended to agree with Paul so they could find out his weaknesses

• Wanted to make Paul, Barnabas and Titus comply with circumcision and the Law (要我們遵守律法 )– Wanted Titus circumcised!

• God used Peter to carry the gospel to the circumcised (Jews)

• God used Paul to carry the gospel to the uncircumcised (Gentiles)

Remember the Poor紀念窮人 (2:10)• Jerusalem under a major famine• Apostles realized this was a great way to

help Jews appreciate Gentiles, and for Gentiles to show their love for their Jewish brethren

(2:12-13)• Peter feared those of the circumcision (12)

Possibility of ruining his opportunity to

return to Jerusalem and work with the Jews

• Rest of the Jews and even Barnabas were influenced (13) – he had spent over a year working with Paul in Antioch!

Paul understood the importance of this moment! He could not give in or his

God-given commission among the Gentiles would be in vain.

Page 22:

Rebuked Peter publicly because this was such a major issue that

needed to be publicly resolved (14)(保羅公開指責彼得 )– Most issues are not this critical!

If I go back

to teaching salvation by law, which I destroyed, I become a sinner

(2:18)

• Law condemned to death (“ministry of death” 2 Cor 3:7), Paul now

I have been crucified with Christ

• The motivating power to live for God – “ 我已經與基督同釘十字架,現在活著的不再是我,乃是基督在我裡面活著;並且我如今在肉身活著,是因信神的兒子而活;他是愛我,為我捨己。” (20) – If this doesn’t motivate us to live for God, nothing will

• Paul will not give in on the issue of the grace of God – if righteousness could come by law then Christ’s death was worthless!(保羅堅持得救是神的恩典,而不是人行為上的努力 )

Page 25:

Living as crucified with Christ

• We take up our cross daily (Lk 9:23)• We join him in his death to sin (Rom 6:1-6)• We now live by faith in the son of God who loves us and gave himself for us

Gal 2:20)

• By the grace of God, we are forgiven of all our mistakes

A husband and wife do family Bible

readings together after dinner.• The husband checks off his Bible

companion, reads quickly, thinking about what he wants to do when the readings are over.

• The wife considers each reading, looking for lessons and answers to solve issues she’s facing in her family.

• Both satisfied the requirement to read the word, one as a legal requirement, the other out of love for God’s ways.

Page 28:

Galatians 2Lessons for Today

Galatians 2Lessons for Today

• Like Paul, we must not subject ourselves to false teaching for one moment and we must uphold the truth of the gospel (2:5; Jude 3).(堅持真理,絕不退縮 )

• God is no respecter of persons看重人過於看重神 (2:6 至於那些有名望的,不論他是何等人,都與我無干。

• We must be willing to personally confront sin in those who are close to us(堅持真理,不怕得罪任何人 ) (2:11; Prov. 27:5-6; 28:23).
