Umbrella Village

내 이름은 복실이에요. 우산마을에 사는 강아지입니다.

Hello, my name is Boksil. I’m a dog living in the Umbrella Village.

행복한 우산마을èUmbrella Village


우산마을 사람들은 매일 매일 우산이 꼭 필요해요.

People who live in the Umbrella Village need to carry umbrellas everyday.


행주는 우산이 없으면 일어나지 못해요. 나는 매일 우산을 가져다 주어요.

Hengju can't stand up without an umbrella.So I deliver her an umbrella everyday.


그러자 행주가 우산을 짚고 벌떡 일어나 나에게 뽀뽀해 주네요.

When she springs to her feet with the umbrella, she kisses me.


기분이 참 좋았어요.

It feels so good.


인섭이는 마술사에요.

우산의 색깔을 바꾸는 마술을 해요.

그런데 우산을 가지고 나오는 걸 늘 깜빡해요.

Hengju can't stand up without an umbrella.So I deliver her an umbrella everyday.

우산을 가져다 주었더니 인섭이는 나를 안아주었어요.

When I take the umbrella to him, he gives me a hug.

안아주어서 참 좋았어요. It feels so good.


혜숙이는 국가대표 배드민턴 선수에요. 이 마을은 배드민턴채가 우산이래요.

She also forgets to bring her umbrella all the time. Maybe it’s because she is so careless.

Hyesook is a member of the national badminton team. The Village’s people use umbrella as a badminton racket.

혜숙이도 우산을 늘 안가지고 나와요.

덜렁 덜렁해서 그런가 봐요.

우산을 가져다 주며 인사했더니,

날 쓰다듬어 주었어요.

하지만 쓰다듬어 주는 건 별로 좋지 않았어요.

When I greet her and deliver her an unbrella, Hyesook pets my head.But I don’t like her petting me.


동현이는 비디오 대여점 주인이에요. 동현이는 우산이 필요없어요.

Donghyun runs a video shop.He doesn’t need an umbrella.

하지만 혹시나 해서 매일 우산을 가져다 주었어요.

However, I just give him an umbrella everyday like I do for the others, because he might need it some day.

그러자 동현이는 “저리가”라고 소리쳤어요. 나는 화가 났지만 참았어요.

Then, Donghyun shouts at me. “Go away!”I feel angry when I hear him shouting, but I don’t say anything.

복남이는 아주 높은 언덕에 살아요. Boknam lives on a high hill.

집에서 나오려면 우산을 타고 내려와야 해요. He opens an umbrella and jumps off the hill when he wants to go out.

매일 우산을 가져다 주면 뼈다귀를 줘요.

나는 복남이가 준 뼈다귀를 먹고 배가 불렀어요.

When I deliver his umbrella, Boknam gives me a bone.Because Boknam gives me a bone, I am always full.



지혜는 바깥에 나오면 햇볕에 얼굴이 활활타올라요. 그래서 우산으로 가려야 해요. Jihye’s face bursts into flames when she comes out of her house.So, she has to protect her face from sunlight by an umbrella.

우산을 가져다 주자 나와 함께 산책을 했어요. 산책은 참 좋아요.

When I deliver her an umbrella, she takes me for a walk.Walking is very fun and good for me.


그러던 어느날

나는 몸이 아팠어요.

우산을 가져다 줄 수

없었어요.

One day, I got sick, so I couldn’t deliver the umbrellas to the people.


행주는 계속 앉아 있어야 했고,

인섭이는 무대에서 야유를 받았어요.

혜숙이는 대회에 못나가서 날 원망했구요.

Hengju had to spend all day sitting in her chair.Insub was booed off the stage because he couldn’t show any magic.

Hyesook blamed me because she couldn’t participate in the competition.

Only Donghyun liked it.Boknam couldn’t get down from the hill.

Jihye’s house was burned away because of her face

동현이는 내가 안오니까 좋아했어요.

복남이는 집에서 나올 수 없었고,

지혜는 얼굴이 활활 타올라 집에 불이 났어요.

며칠이 지났어요.

마을 사람들은 불행해졌어요.

모두 모여 회의를 했어요.

Many days passed.People in the Unbrella Town was unhappy.They gathered in one place and held a meeting.


“We need umbrellas.”“Where is Boksil?”“Donghyun has a lot of umbrellas. Boksil delivered him an umbrella everyday, but he never used any of them.”“Then, let’s get umbrellas from Donghyun’s shop every night!”

“우산이 필요해”“복실이는 어디갔을까?

“비디오가게 동현이에게 우산이 많던데?

매일 복실이가 가져다 주었지만

한번도 쓴적이 없잖아”“그럼 우리 매일밤 동현이네 모여

우산을 가지고 가자”

사람들은 동현이네 집에 매일 밤 모여서 우산을 하나씩 가져가기로 했어요. People agreed to get umbrellas from Donghyun’s shop.


모두 집에 가는 길에 모이다 보니 배가 고팠어요.

그래서 모일 때마다 함께 저녁밥을 먹었어요.

같이 먹으니 훨씬 맛이 있었어요.

매일 매일이 마을 사람들의 잔치였어요.

They visited Donghyun’s shop in the evening. It’s was supper time, and everyone was hungry.Since then, they decided to have supper altogether. Actually It was more delicious when we ate together.Everyday was like a party.

신기하게도 사람들은 점점 친해졌어요.

이젠 매일 우산을 가져다 주지 않아도

모두 행복해요.

Amazingly, people got to care about each other more than before.People are happier now even though no one brings umbrellas for them.

난 우산마을이 참 좋아요. I love the Umbrella Town.
