One definition of tolerance is “a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from one’s own.”

宽容有这么一个定义：“对于与自己不同的意见和做法，采取一种公平、客观、许可的态度。”

It’s easy to respect people who you have a lot in common with, but respecting others’ right to think and be different is even more important.

尊重和自己有许多共同点的人很容易；但是尊重别人有权与你不一样、想法不一致，更为重要。

Tolerance, in a way, is simply accepting people as they are. Most people come with a lot of virtues and a few defects, some positive and a little negative, always some plus and always some minus.

每个人都会有很多优点，同时也会有一些缺点。人们会有某些积极的长处，也会有一些消极的短处；因为凡人总是既有长处，又有短处的。

Being tolerant requires patience and forgiveness. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. We should be especially tolerant of those we have a hard time getting along with.

宽容需要耐心和饶恕。 总要彼此包容、彼此饶恕。对那些很难与之相处的人，我们当格外宽容。

Practice looking for good in others. Remember that you can have only one thought in your mind at once; if it is a positive thought of another, you have no need to strain for tolerance, you have achieved it!

要不断地去寻找别人的长处。请记住：你的脑子不可能同时存在一种以上的想法。如果你对别人存有积极的想法的话，你就不必去努力地宽容别人了，因为你会自然而然地持有这种宽容的心态。
