1. ெமய்ப்ெபாருளும் மாையயும் (THE TRUTH AND THE MAYA)
This is another attempt on Tamil Poetry. Fresh from the Vaishno Devi trip and inspired by 2 specific songs, I just
scribbled this one below in a car from Airport to residence today. The first song that inspired me was the
Bharathiyaar Song on மாையையப் பழித்தல்.
The second song that inspired me was the following song from Thirumantiram of Sage Thirumoolar.
மாைய மைறக்க மைறந்த மைறப் ெபாருள்
மாைய மைறய ெவளிப்படும் அப்ெபாருள்
மாைய மைறய மைறய வல்லார்கட்குக்
காயமும் இல்ைல கருத்தில்ைல தாேன

The essence I understood is that the மாப்ெபாருள் (The grandest), ெமய்ப்ெபாருள் (God / the truthful
thing) becomes மைறப்ெபாருள் (the hidden thing) because of Maya and by the grace of மாதவி (Shakti) and மாதவன் (The Lord), Maya subsides and ெமய்ப்ெபாருள் (the truthful) shines.

விண்ெபாருள், மண்ெபாருள், அம்மைறப்ெபாருள்
ஒளிப்ெபாருள், ஒலிப்ெபாருள், ெமய்யிைறப்ெபாருள்
நுண்ெபாருள், அணுப்ெபாருள், அந்நிைறெபாருள்,
The grandest, the truthful, which is innately inmate
The Space particle, the earth particle, that which is hidden
The light particle, the sound particle, that which is truthfully divine
The smallest, the atomic particle, that which is complete in itself
மாப்ெபாருளின் மருவாய் மாையயும் மலர்ந்தேதா
மாப்ெபாருைள மைறக்க மாையயும் விைழந்தேதா
மாப்ெபாருளும் மாையயால் மைறய இைசந்தேதா
மாப்ெபாருள் ெமய்ப்ெபாருள் மைறெபாருள் ஆனேதா!!
Did the grandest manifest itself as Maya?
Did Maya desired to hide the grandest?
Did the grandest acquiesce to Maya’s desires?
Did the grandest, the truthful became the hidden thing?
அம்மாதவி அருளால் மனக்கிளர்ச்சி சாயிந்தேத,
அம்மாதவி அருளால் மதி, மனதில், ஒய்ந்தேத,
அம்மாதவி அருளால் விதி, விைனயும் காய்ந்தேத,
அம்மாதவி அருளால் மதி, ரவியில் ேதாய்ந்தேத,
By the grace of Ma Shakti emotional bursts subsided
By the grace of Ma Shakti mind rested in the heart
By the grace of Ma Shakti the karmic cause and effect dried up
By the grace of Ma Shakti the moon (in us) merged with the sun (in us)
அம்மாதவன் அருளால் எம்மனமதில் ேமய்ந்தேத
அம்மாதவன் அருளால் மாையயும் மாய்ந்தேத
அம்மாதவன் அருளால் அம்மாையயும் அருவாய்
மைறப்ெபாருள் மா ெமய்ப்ெபாருளாய் மிளிர்ந்தேத! By the grace of the LORD, my mind dwelled on him By the grace of the LORD, the Maya died By the grace of the LORD, the Maya devolved and The hidden thing shines as the grandest truthful thing!
அருட்ெபாருள், கருப்ெபாருள், ேபருணர்ெபாருள்
காத்தருள் மனதில், இருத்தருள் நம்கருத்தில்,
கற்றருள் அறிவில், ேபாற்றருள் நம்முளத்தில்,
அளித்தருள் ெசம்ைம, நைமக் காத்தருள் அப்ேபரருள்
The most divine, the seed incarnate, that which is the super conscious
Protect that in the mind always; keep that in the thought always
Learn that (in intelligence), praise that in the heart
That merciful, shall bestow goodness and shall protect us!

(Mind is the source, primordial god’s particle as the form,
The luminescent space, the Pranava as consciousness
Consciousness as the Om’s Light, Om’s Light as Om’s sound
Isn’t time a pulsation that’s the dance of Lord of Dance?)
காலேம சீலமாகி, சீலேமக் ேகாலமாகி ேகாலேம ஞாலமாகி, ஆதியும் அந்தமாகி ஞாலேம மூலமாகி, அறிவுடன்ஆ னந்தமாகி நடுவிேல நன்று நிற்கும் நாதன் தாேள நாட்டமாகி
Time creates Rhythm & order, Rhythm creates shapes
Shapes become universe, the beginning and the end
Universe merges with source, it is awareness & bliss
Ever searching for the feet of the divine & graceful mean

The energy as thoughts, our thoughts as numbers (octets)

அம்பலத்தில் ஆடும் அவைன, அரங்கத்தில் துயிலும் அவைன

4. யாதும் ஊேர, யாவரும் ேகளிர்; GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE OF A
TAMIL POET 2000+ YEARS BEFORE... This is one of the most famous poetry in Tamil which is dated 2000 years+. The first line is often quoted in many International and domestic forums and even by people who do not know Tamil. Some may recall Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam quoting this in address to the European union assembly. This states that the whole world is my country and everyone is related to me. It highlights the maturity of Tamil culture and language which had such broad global perspective. I am giving below the poetry, its meaning in Tamil and its meaning in English. I hope my limitation in language does not reduce the broad vision stated in this poem. In my opinion, in today's world majority of the Tamilians who can read Tamil would not have read this poem even once and even if they have read they would not understand its full meaning. We are having a good size of population who can speak Tamil but can’t read. This effort is to help a section of people with English Transliteration and meaning in English and Tamil. யாதும் ஊேர, யாவரும் ேகளிர்;
தீதும், நன்றும், பிறர் தர வாரா;
ேநாதலும், தணிதலும், அவற்ேறார் அன்ன;
சாதலும் புதுவது அன்ேற! வாழ்தல்
இனிது என மகிழ்ந்தன்றும் இலேம! முனிவின்
இன்னாது என்றலும் இலேம! மின்ெனாடு
வானம் தண் துளி தைலஇ ஆனாது,
கல்ெபாருது இரங்கும், மல்லல் ேபர்யாற்று
நீர்வழிப் படூஉம் புைன ேபால், ஆருயிர்
முைறவழிப் படூஉம் என்பது திறேவார்

(EM) Both good and bad things (to you) are not from (because of) others. This means you reap what you sow and this is my favorite line.

(EM) The staying away from family life and taking to a ascetic life is neither bad. (Essentially saying living normally, taking to a ascetic life or dying - all of them are neither good nor bad. Don't be too excited or too depressed about these events. Don't think any of them is better than the other.)

(EM) The wise say that life flows as a code with rhythm and order. This is not being fatalistic but recognizing the effect of Karma and the law of nature.

(TM) அந்த காட்சியில் நாங்கள் ெதளிந்ேதாம் ஆைகயால்,

(EM) If we can realize and experience this truth

(EM) We would not be awed by great and powerful people (We would not be praising them because they are better than us in intelligence, wealth, by birth or skills. This is because their greatness is also a flow of nature)
(P) சிறிேயாைர இகழ்தல் அதனினும் இலேம!
(T) Siriyorai Igazhthal adhaninum ilame!
(TM) சிறியவர்கைள இகழ்தல் அதனிலும் இல்ைல.
[நம்ைம விடவும் கீழானவைரக் கண்டு சிறுைமயாய் நடத்துதைல எண்ணவும் மாட்ேடாம்.]
(EM) (More importantly) Nor we would belittle / mock people who are weaker than us. In summary, we are global citizens and we reap what we sow (it is not from others). Let us be balanced in our outlook. Never be excited about success, don't sulk under duress. (No it is not Enjoy when you can and endure when you must - since this is like a pendulum.) Life flows and is subjected to laws of nature and once you realize / experience this truth you would not treat others differently from yours. 7. பrணாமப் பயணத்தில்.. JOURNEY OF EVOLUTION Inspired by Thirumanthiram by Thirumantiram I attempted to capture the sequence of evolution and trace the path back to Moksha. The process of evolution as per Hinduism highlights that the Brahman or Purusha (without name, form and without a second), thought that I shall be many. This led
to மனனம் (Thought) சலனம் (Vibration, Primordial sound). Then the evolution started as
space (ெவளி) and then space became air (வளி), air became fire (கனல்) and fire became
water (புனல்). Water became earth and the combination of the 5 elements led to the form of different living and non-living beings. So they say.
The living beings had their Chitta, Buddhi, manas and senses which led us to the path of desire
and karma and thus into the cycle of life and birth. I am covering this in the first part trying to ask
why did this happen like this?
In the second part the highlight is how do we trace the path back to the Brahman. There are 2
songs of Thirumoolar which inspired me to scribble this and they are: ெவளியில் ெவளிேபாய் விரவிய வாறும்
அளியில் அளிேபாய் அடங்கிய வாறும்
ஒளியில் ஒளிேபாய் ஒடுங்கிய வாறும்

The meaning of the first song is "Space merges with space, love in love, light in light and who
realizes this is the REALIZED".
The meaning of the second song is "If 5 senses retrace their evolution where else can the
consciousness merge other than the cosmic mind? Understand well that when 2 light merges
the result is only one light and not two."
"Silence is key to golden gate" is what i rely on and this silence is a blessing from the god for the retraction and suggesting that Silence leads to calmness and clarity and this shall initiate the devolution process. In the devolution process everything merges back with the cosmic mind / space like senses into manas, manas into buddhi, buddhi into consciousness and the elements into the cosmic mind. If you have read till here and not realized that the topic is heavy, you would realize it once you complete it. :)

8. "சி"யின் பயணம் வாழ்வடா! - LIFE IS A JOURNEY IN CHI
This attempt emerged when i was talking to my Karate / Tai Chi Master Mr. Devarajan who used always talk about how Tai Chi phonetically could have had a tamil origin. The fact that martial arts in China was a direct export from ancient Tamilnadu is already established and there could be a possibility that Tai Chi as an art and word is also derived from Tamilnadu. Let me explain this.
Tai Chi (considered as the most superior form of martial arts) written in tamil is தாய்
சி which means is mother "chi" and can be interpreted as mother of all "Chi"s. Chi in
chinese is the prana's counterpart in sanskrit and means the energy. So Tai Chi is the art of nurturing the mother of all energies. May be we should change the spelling of energy to enerchi :) It is difficult to miss that Chi-na is called so because it is a land where Chi energy is nurtured or available in abundance. He used to tell that a pregnant lady in Tamil is called
as "பிள்ைள தாய்ச்சி", and this means பிள்ைள and தாய் is united by the சி.
"சி" is a very important word or mantra for siddhars. In "நமசிவய" (namasivaya), சி is the center word and is also termed as நாேயாட்டு மந்திரம். It is told that the most
secret word for them is "சி" and this is how you push a dog away. If you read the buddhist
teachings / tantrics and the siddhar teachings/ tantras you may not find too much difference. Hence irrespective of whether Bodhidharma was a buddhist and a siddhar the origin of Tai Chi could have very well been from tamilnadu.
So in short Chi (சி) is an important word in tamil and today my master was reminding me
about the whole human life cycle can be captured with words ending in Chi (சி) and
listed most of the words below. I just scribbled this poetry from those words and hope you would enjoy this.
I have used words ending with சி to define every stage of life and ending with cycle of
life. I have coined a word called நைக மாட்சி (meaning laughter reign) which i have not
read anywhere so far. This comes close to பைக மாட்சி, பைட மாட்சி both available
in Thirukural. For a guy like who is interested in Sidhars, martial arts, Indian / Buddhist
philosophies, tamil and traditional arts this topic was a perfect intersection of all. I have concluded that Life is a journey in Chi and also journey of Chi is life :).
புணர்ச்சியில் கலந்ததுவாய்
பிள்ைளதாய்ச்சியில் கருஉருவாய்
மலர்ச்சி ெபற்று மழைலயாய்
வளர்ச்சி ெபற்று குழந்ைதயாய்
பயிற்சி பயின்ற பாலனாய்
உணர்ச்சி கண்ட காைளயாய்
சுழற்சி ெசய்யும் இவ்வண்டத்தில்

9. ேவண்டும் "ைம" - ேவண்டா "ைம"
Another attempt for Tamil poetry. The concept i have used here is words ending with "ைம" in Tamil. Inspired by so many "ைம" in thirukkural i wanted to distinguish between ேவண்டும் "ைம" - ேவண்டா "ைம". There are some "ைம" (ேவண்டும் "ைம") which is good for us and some "ைம" (ேவண்டா "ைம") which is not good for us and hence the distinction.
In the course i am making an effort to emphasize that some of the qualities are best when it occurs in pairs. For example ெபாருளுடன் அடக்கமுைடைம நன்ேற.

10. ேநாக்கு வர்மம் - NOKKU VARMAM
Recently I saw movie called 7aam Arivu (ஏழாம் அறிவு) and the key concept of the movie is
around Bodhidharma and his teachings to Chinese esp. Nokku Varmam. Nokku varmam is a branch of the martial arts where you can subdue an opponent without any contact by using the energy from your eyes. It is really sad that these arts are almost dead in the main land and is probably flourishing in places where it is adopted some time back. Our ability to neglect our rich past is shocking and also very saddening. When you see such a powerful subject as a movie you can't escape getting inspired by it. This art is given to us by Sage Agasthiyar who lived in south India and is the head of Sidha parampara. He was married to a lady called Lopamudra and he lived in South India in Sanga Kalam. You can google to find out more about him. This blog is about me saying that Nokku Varmam - the art of managing energy through our eyes is very much alive in Tamil Nadu and you may enjoy if you can read Tamil. I am attributing this art to his wife, that the sage has learnt this from his wife's eyes and given it to us. I am suggesting that the art which is used to kill or control an opponent is refined to fit our culture of non-
violence (ெகால்லாைம, இன்னா ெசய்யாைம) and we have preserved this in a better form.

11. இன்பத்ைத ேதடி...SECRET OF HAPPINESS! It was 5.30am today morning when my alarm clock was nagging like a girl friend (Shrill, non-stop, not bothered in what state i was in) sort of complaining against me not to cuddle between the sheets, probably thinking that the bed was my another girlfriend and wanted me to separate from her then and there. There are many gadgets which are more intelligent than average humans but was surprised that there has not been any innovation in the alarm clocks over these years. Why can't intelligence be built into alarm clocks that understands what did i do last night, why did i sleep so late, check the current state of my bliss and finally realize there is no point in screaming now? Least it can be designed to be kind. Is someone hearing? Nevertheless I had a flight to catch and any of the above innovation would have certainly screwed my day. I was quickly ready and was reading a book where I came across this beautiful poem on the "Secret of Happiness" which I thought Ii would share:
THE SECRET OF HAPPINESS..... by Burleigh I followed happiness to make her mine, Past towering oak and swinging ivy vine. She fled, I chased, over slanting hill and dale, Over fields and meadows, in the purpling vale Pursing rapidly over dashing stream, I scaled the dizzy cliffs where eagles scream; I traversed swiftly every land and sea, But always happiness eluded me. Exhausted, fainting, I pursued no more, But sank to rest upon the barren shore. One came and asked for food, and one for alms; I placed the bread and gold in bony palms; One came for sympathy, and one for rest; I shared with every needy one my best; When, lo! Sweet Happiness, with form divine, Stood by me, whispering softly, “I am thine.”
Somehow I felt so good reading this, I was tempted to translate it in Tamil and here is the scribbling below, which was completed in about an hour’s time during the flight. The concept I have taken is Giving (Sharing) and Love are the mother and father of happiness, correlating that if you have unconditional love and exhibit the same by dedicating your life to others then
happiness is a natural offspring. You MAY like it if you can read தமிழ் :).

காதல் ெகாள்ள எண்ணிேனன்!

12. எல்லாம் நீ... (PART 1/2) Disclaimer: 1. This blog is not for you if you can’t read tamil / not interested in "siddhar padalgal" / Saiva siddhantam. If you fall under this category i am assuming this is where you stop :). 2. Inspired by the few Siddhar related books which i have been reading, i just scribbled this and uploaded here. 3. I am not going to a write about sidhars or their philosophy and just going to say that they are the "realized souls", they despise idol worship, but believe in God / Godliness within us. Most of their works are cryptic and they dont disclose the primordial secrets to everyone. 4. There is nothing cryptic in the following work and if you find anything difficult understand this is purely due to my weakness in this language. (Remember Tamil is my weakest subject.) 5. This blog talks about the "96 tattvas" which is world is made up of which is attributed to God.

6. In part 2, I am taking about our current state of affairs and attributing it to god. I have not read this aspect so far and hence i found this line of thinking interesting... Per Indian belief, god did not create the world in 6 days, but from the source, there was vibration (Chalanam) and then that vibration gave birth to Chittam, Manas, Buddhi and Ahamkara. Then Space (Visumbhu) was created, from space, air (Vali, Vayu, Kanal) was created, from air, fire (Anal - Read in tamil and not in English :) ) was created, Water (Punal) from fire and Nilam from Punal.

Moovettu is 24, there are 24 syllables in Gayatri. Per belief you should not recite Gayatri loudly ever, if done the potency is lost. Odha Moovettu is made to underline silent recital of Gayatri
mantra. அ is 8 and உ is 2 this is called ettu irandu, Iynthezhuthu is Na-MA-Si-va-ya, Oru
ezhuthu is "Si" which is the Maha karana panshaksharam. This is also the oomai ezhuthu, the silent word.

ஆடி அடங்கும் வாழ்க்ைகயில் நாடி ஓடி ேதடிேனன் ! ேதடி ேதடி வாடிேனன்!
விைன இல்லா வித்ேத நீ! வாடும் என்ைன நாடிடு ! ேதடும் என்னில் ேசர்ந்திடு!
"நான்" இல்லா நானும் நீ, ஆதியந்தமாயிருக்கும் எல்லாமும் நீேய! There are 2 Nyayas discussed in our Indian philosophy which explains the way to approach god. One is the monkey's way - If you have seen the baby monkey it holds on to its mother tightly and mother shall jump from tree to tree and it shall not hold its baby. We can get attached to god that way and not leave god under any circumstances. The other way is the Cat's way (Marakara Nyaya) - the mother cat carries its kitten with its mouth holding its neck and takes it to safety. Here the kitten does not do anything. So the above phrase says that i shall be like monkey holding on to you but you (God) be like a cat and treat me like a kitten. Also there are 3 interesting types of birth discussed in most of the literatures: 1. Tortoise - It lays eggs in the shore, buries it, goes to the sea and swims. But the mother tortoise always thinks about the eggs and incubates the eggs with its thoughts. Just thoughts!, thats how the eggs are hatched. Think and deliver! Amazing isn’t? 2. Fish - It lays eggs and just keeps on watching the eggs and incubates them with their eyes! See and Deliver! Can you correlate why goddess Meenakshi is named so? 3. The metamorphosis of larva to a fly. Here the mother fly keeps banging its face against the larva and converts them from larva to fly. Again think, act and deliver!. I have used just the 1st aspect in the para above.
