    Lab: Getting StartedCreate Local Projects and Resources

    ScenarioYou need to create two new Information Designer Projects for users to access for analysis: one with a relational database connection to your data warehouse; and onewith an OLAP connection to the Adventure Works cube.

    Objectives

    In this lab, you will: Create two local projects

    Create a relational database connection

    Create a data foundation and business layer for the relational databaseconnection

    Create an OLAP connection

    Create a business layer for the OLAP connection

    Duration

    15 minutes

    Perform the following steps as described in order:

    Create your First Project1. From the Start menu, click Programs > SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0 > SAP

    BusinessObjects Enterprise Client Tools > Information Design Tool to launch theInformation Design Tool.

    2. From the menu bar, click File > New > Project to create a new project.

    3. In the Project name text box, type My Relational Resources .

    4. Click Finish .

    Create a Relational Connection1. On the Local Projects tab, right-click the new project and click New > Relational Connection to

    create a relational connection.

    2. In the Resource Name text box, type My Relational Connection .

    3. Click Next > .

    4. In the list of connection drivers, expand the Microsoft > MS SQL Server 2005 and selectODBC Drivers .

    5. Click Next > .

    6. Enter the following parameters:

    Field Entry

    Authentication Mode Use specified user name and password

    User name guest

    Password bobobo

    Data source name Warehouse

    7. Click Test Connection to make sure the connection is defined correctly.

    8. Click Close .

    4. Choose the Single source option.

    5. Click Next > .

    6. Select the My Relational Connection check box.

    7. Click Finish .

    Create a Business Layer 1. From the menu bar, click File > New > Business Layer to create a business layer.

    2. From the list of business layer types, select Relational Business Layer .

    3. Click Next > .

    4. In the Resource Name text box, type My Relational Business Layer .

    5. Click Next > .

    6. Click to open the Data foundation selection dialog.

    7. In the Select a Data foundation list, select My Data Foundation.dfx .

    8. Click OK .

    9. Select the Automatically create classes and objects check box to create business objectsbased on present data foundation tables.

    10. Click Finish .

    Create a Second Project1. From the menu bar, click File > New > Project to create a new project.

    2. In the Project name text box, type My OLAP Resources .

    3. Click Finish .

    Create an OLAP Connection1. Right-click the new project and click New > Olap Connection to create an OLAP connection.

    2. In the Resource Name text box, type My OLAP Connection .

    3. Click Next > .

    4. In the hierarchical list, expand the Microsoft > Microsoft Analysis Services 2005 branch andselect Xmla .

    Create an OLAP Business Layer 1. From the menu bar, click File > New > Business Layer to create a business layer.

    2. In the list of business layer types, select Olap Business Layer.

    3. Click Next > .

    4. In the Resource Name text box, type My OLAP Business Layer .

    5. Click Next > .

    6. Click to open the Connection selection dialog

    7. In the Select an OLAP connection list, select My OLAP Connection.cnx .

    8. Click OK .

    14. Confirm the list of objects to be added to the business layer.
