INTRODUCTION SUNFLOWER 5056 SERIES FIELD CULTIVATOR

[100]

General The Sunflower 5000 Series Field Cultivators are one of the most respected product lines avail-able today and feature heavy construction, outstanding ground clearance, and superb flotation. The truss style frame provides the strength required by today’s high horsepower tractors and the computer aided design utilizing Finite Element Analysis, ensures the product will stand up to the stresses of difficult soil and terrain conditions, and creates optimum shank placement for unmatched performance and residue management. The 5056 Series feature single point depth control and a rephasing lift system that is all covered by the Sunflower three-year war-ranty. Shanks are available in either spring tension or S-tine design and offer up to 190 pound (86 kg) point load for extra tough soil conditions. Walking tandems and large tires provide the necessary flotation that operators expect, and the self-leveling hitch maintains a level frame from the front to rear regardless of operating depth. An optional floating tongue is available for hilly or undulating terrain to maintain that same level operating position.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS SUNFLOWER 5056 FIELD CULTIVATOR

[200]-1

General The Model 5056 Field Cultivators are Sunflower’s seedbed preparation tool for larger farming operations. Available in sizes from 45 feet (13.7 m) to 63 feet (19.2 m) wide and at 6 horse-power per foot, the required tractor horsepower falls in the 270 to 400 range. The 5-section 5056-45 fits the medium size operations and the 5056-63 will handle the largest farming opera-tions. The 9-inch cultivator shovels on 6-inch centers, overlap 1 1/2-inches on each side to cre-ate a full cutting action and ensures all weeds and grasses are sheared and the shallow com-paction layer created by normal farming operations is shattered. With a variety of finishing at-tachments available, the soil surface can be customized to match a wide variety of soil types and residue management requirements.

Self Leveling Tongue

The welded, self leveling tongue design en-sures the machine maintains a level profile in transport or in operating position. This saves time leveling the machine front to rear when moving from field to field. An optional floating tongue and single lug or double lip hitches are available.

Hose Docking Station

The docking station for hydraulic hoses and the 7-pin electrical connector is conveniently locat-ed on the tongue and swivels to match tongue angle and reduce strain on the lines during op-eration and tight turning. Hydraulic couplers are conveniently stored and the 7-pin electrical connector is protected from the elements dur-ing storage

Cast Hitch Lug

The heavy cast Cat V hitch also has an adjust-able stop to ensure adequate mobility of the hitch pin but prevents excessive front to rear movement.

Main Frame

The heavy truss style main frame designed using Finite Element Analysis has the strength to meet the demands of tough tillage condi-tions, so the structural integrity of the frame is maintained for the life of the machine for both the center section and the wings. (Through FEA we can test the stress on a part or an entire machine electronically in the Pro-Engineer design program)

Gauge Wheels

The gauge wheels are mounted on a parallel linkage system to always maintain the proper angle of engagement with the soil surface. Both rotational and thrust bearings use UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) plastic to eliminate the need for lubrication. The five section cultivator has a gauge wheel on each of the floating wing sections to reduce the chance of gouging in steep uneven terrain.

Wing Frames

Wing frames are designed to withstand the rotational torque stresses through frame de-sign and utilizing three wing hinge pivot points. The hinge bearings utilize UHMW plastic to eliminate the need for lubrication, increase longevity and reduce service time.. Three mounting points ensure the wings al-ways stay level with the center section. Thus maintaining an accurate shovel depth across the entire width of the machine.

[200]-4

Single Point Depth Control

Depth is easily set by turning the depth con-trol handle one revolution to change the depth 1/2-inch. A highly visible gauge is located for ease of operator use.

Walking Tandem Wheels Walking tandem wheels provide the stability and even penetration across the width of the machine on the center section and wings. Bolt in spindles with triple lip seals provide years of trouble free service. Walking tandems pro-vide one half the vertical travel of the imple-ment verses a dual wheel system. Spindles are bolted in to ensure parts can quickly and easily be replaced thus keeping service cost at a minimum.

Lift System

The 5056 Series lift system is equipped with maintenance-free UHMW plastic bearings, that eliminate metal-to-metal contact and wear. The lift system never requires lubrication re-sulting in more time in the field and less time servicing. With the metal-to-metal contact eliminated, the cultivator stays in adjustment and continues to provide a level field. The lift system modules are mounted on at least two frame members to provide strength and main-tain alignment as pointed out by the arrows.

Low Profile Shanks

With 26 inches (66 cm) of under frame clear-ance the 5/8 inch (1.59 cm) thick, 190 pound (86 kg) point load shanks on a 5 bar cultivator placement provide optimum trash flow. The shanks are mounted on 6 inch (15.2 cm) cen-ters with 9 inch (22.9 cm) wide sweeps, to pro-vide complete field finishing. S-tine 160 pound (72.6 kg) point load shanks are also available if rocks and stones are not present and the heav-ier Spring Tension Shanks are not necessary.

Jack Stand and Safety Chain

The easily adjusted top crank jack stand and the safety chains are standard on all Sunflow-er cultivators.

Safety Lighting

The safety lighting utilizes amber flashers at the outer perimeter of the machine in transport and the red turn signals are located to be easily seen by following traffic. The al-ways present SMV is located in the center rear of the machine for easy visibility. This layout meets or exceeds ASAE standards for International use.

Four Row High Residue Spike Drag Designed for heavy residue conditions, the spike drag consists of 3/4 x 15-inch (1.9 x 40.6 cm) round spikes staggered on 3-inch (76.2 mm) centers. The longer spikes pro-mote a smoother flow of residue, and the round design sheds heavy residue better than conventional square spikes. The bar mounts can be attached to form a more fixed angle of attack or reversed to allow maximum flexibility of the unit.

Three Row Spike Drag and Reel Operating independent of each other, the spike drag levels the soil in advance of the reel providing a smoother surface for the reel to run. The 10 1/4-inch (26 cm) diameter reel features six high carbon spiraled blades with no center shaft ensuring better soil and resi-due handling. The aggressive action of this combination pulverizes the soil, provides su-perior leveling, and enhances residue incorpo-ration leaving the seed bed in near perfect condition.

Three Row Coil Tine and Reel Features a three row coil tine section that can be adjusted for the desired pitch. This attach-ment features height, tilt, and spring loaded down pressure adjustments for various work-ing conditions. The 10 1/4-inch (26 cm) diam-eter reel features six high carbon spiraled blades with no center shaft ensuring better soil and residue handling and revolves at a high speed which provides a more aggressive digging action for incorporating residue and preparing the seed bed.
