True Father talked about his life’s mission as igniting a quiet spiritual revolution.“I can see a great change, a great new surge of revolution coming… not by fire, not by bullets, but by God’s truth kindling a revolution in men’s hearts. I havecome to ignite this spiritual revolution.” Father continued, saying, “I do not need

to demonstrate in front of the White House or in Lafayette Square. The answer does notlie there, but in the hearts of men, in the quiet revolution from selfishness to unselfishness.”(Pyeong Hwa Gyeong, pg. 47)

With a vision that saw far beyond the blinding reality of this selfish world and an un-stoppable passion that could digest the most difficult, miserable situation, True Parentshave given us two precious diamonds: their teachings and their lineage. Indeed, True Fa-ther holds the world record for the most published prayers and sermons. True Parents

also have the world record for arranging marriages and officiating over the largest marriage blessings. These pricelessgifts are keys to solving the two fundamental consequences of the Fall, our fallen nature and original sin.

True Mother is building on this and has opened the age of Cheon Il Guk. She has helped us refocus our educationalinitiatives by introducing two key concepts. They are simple but revolutionary. 1) God is our Heavenly Parent and 2)we are a federation of blessed central families whose mission is to bring peace and unity to the world, (i.e., TrueMother’s focus on FFWPU). We need to retool.

My mission as the special emissary for education is, to say the least, very challenging but also exciting and liberating. In essence, I feel my responsibility is to help catalyze a revolution. It will start with Principle education.

The emphasis on education is one of the strengths of our Asian regional president, Dr. Yong Chung-sik. It beginswith hoondokhae in the morning. Dr. Yong has researched Father’s messages and connected the current providencedirectly to True Parents’ teachings. It is very, very powerful.

Each morning is like Pentecost. Tears, repentance, insights and redetermination happen daily. We feel deeply con-nected to True Parents’ hearts, lives and mission. This is the engine that is driving the success of our Asian movement.

Along with this is the strong emphasis on tribal messiahship with Thailand and Philippines leading the way. Todo tribal messiahship on a national level means we are constantly teaching the Principle. It is literally non-stop. OftenI find myself going from one program to another without a moment to rest. It is not unusual for me to get off a plane, get in and out of a car and walk directly onstage to teach.

We are constantly teaching the Principle. For example, with Dr. Yong we just finished traveling to thirty-five statesand union territories in India. In all but a handful of places not even a single member was there to help arrange theprogram. The national leader, Mr. Krishna Adhikari, however organized very substantial programs at every venue. We taught governors, vice-chancellors (university presidents), professors, doctoral students, post-graduate researchscholars, law students, Gandhians, religious leaders and high-level politicians. The audience on average was over ahundred people. They loved True Parents’ teachings on family-centered peace and wanted us to come back quickly.

Another education initiative we are launching is to reach out to college and high school principals. If we want tochange a nation, we have to educate a nation. We are working with the Ministry of Education as well as with privateschool associations in Nepal for an exciting new adventure.

Principals and parents can see the erosion of moral values in students, but they feel helpless to stop it. Recently, one principal told us, “Only Father Moon’s teaching can solve this problem.” They have agreed to support a rally ofseventy thousand people in Nepal’s national stadium, where we will bring together parents to rededicate their mar-riages and at the same time ask students to take the Pure Love Pledge. This will start to turn the tide of sexual im-morality and protect the nation.

Already, in Kathmandu alone, we have taught in over a hundred schools and colleges. Our goal is not 430 couples;we will accomplish that within our larger goal. We will work with 430 educational institutions. In December, we willstart by inviting seventy-five principals and their wives to Thailand. We will bring them to Bangkok for moral, char-acter and family-values education based on the Principle. Then, like Jericho, we will visit each college seven times.

In essence, this “quiet revolution from selfishness to unselfishness” is to be realized through the Principle and theblessing given by our True Parents. With minds as clear as crystal and hearts as pure as gold, Cheon Il Guk is beingrealized. Thank you True Parents!

Beloved Heavenly Father! Herestands high Cheon JeongGung, the palace of the heav-enly kingdom, where repre-

sentatives of pure heart, whose mindsand bodies are immaculately unitedwithin the realm of the Cosmic Sab-bath and who are victorious represen-tatives that have triumphed over theworld’s abominable, satanic historyare gathered here today as the heirsand owners of this palace. You havebecome one in body with the Parentson earth who stand as your counter-parts and who have establishedCheon Jeong Gung. This was done infront of Heaven in order to eliminateall paths of lamentation and of suffer-ing.

In the name of True Parents onearth, in order to establish the realmof oneness of pure heart in heavenand on earth, as desired by God, how

fully the True Parents have becomeone with you, our Father in heaven, and the trinity who came and went onyour behalf, and united in one heartand one body with the many saintsand sages who had sacrificed them-selves in the religious realm! Finally,True Parents have won the supremevictory over millions of hardships onthe central path of suffering in the sa-tanic world on the foundation of thesupreme victory in their hearts. By es-tablishing this palace where heavenand earth can become one, and center-ing on the thirteen years based on theideal of the establishment of Cheon IlGuk in one generation, which canmove us into the era of the seventhmillennium, we have passed throughthe single-digit numbers of onethrough nine, and reached the two-digit number, ten.

To reach this horizontal two-digit

number, the invisible Father and theTrue Parents of the perfected Adamicideal, with their victorious andsupreme authority, have climbed overhills of suffering and death in attain-ing the unified realm of pure heartand the unified realm of all victories. As the owners of this palace, we havelived through the first nine years sincethe establishment of Cheon Il Guk,passing through the single-digityears—one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight and nine—and reachingthe tenth year, a year expressed in atwo-digit number. Based on the threeyears that are left to us until we reachthe number thirteen, and the threevertical stages from formation andgrowth on the horizontal line ofprogress, everything that is defiled inheaven and on earth can be purifiedand this world can be made into aunified world of purity, pure blood

The Unification Church Will Have a Clear Path

This is the midnight prayer on the forty-third anniversary of True God’s Day, and the message on the ninth anniversary of the Coronation Ceremony for God’s Kingship on January 1, 2010,

at the Cheongpyeong Heaven and Earth Training Center.

and pure love. You have allowed us the privilege

of liberation by blessing all created be-ings after passing through sufferingfor the sake of liberation and freedom,so please permit everyone to becomethe citizens of the heavenly kingdomwho can experience gratitude to Godand True Parents. I am grateful to youfor opening for us the world whereinthe patriots and virtuous men andwomen belonging to Heaven canserve God and the Parents who haveno relationship with the Fall and es-tablish the kingdom of peace wher-ever and however they wish toconstruct it.

Please, therefore, allow them, fromthis day forward, to become the sonsand daughters of True Parents, whocan inherit all the authority andpower of Heaven as your representa-tives, and to become the ancestorswho can inherit the blessed lineage asprinces and representatives of king-ship. They are here today, hoping tobecome the owners that can guide allof heaven and earth into our Heav-enly Father’s liberated realm. Soplease bestow your blessings on themand permit them to go beyond thetenth and eleventh stages and becomethe heirs of the supreme victory of lib-eration, freedom and perfection andto live with their ancestors in heavenand their descendants on earth as weattend you together. I report and de-clare this in the name of True Parents.Aju, Aju, Aju.

This year’s motto is “Mansei foroneness with True Parents’ purehearts and with all their victoriesunder the authority of the CosmicSabbath centered on true love.” Thismotto defines the victorious authority.I ask that you all at this hour receivethe authority as God’s representativesand the right to inherit God’s author-ity. Please show me your fortitude byraising your hands high and clapping!I proclaim, in the name of True Par-ents, that the blessing of Heaven bewith all of you, Aju!

With God comes inner knowledgeThe word has come to fruition al-ready, and I have taught everythingeven including what could be plantedagain through first, second, and thirdgenerations. So, what shall I talkabout today? I will talk about how

heaven and earth have come to beunited, which shouldn’t take longerthan fifteen minutes for smart people.

The Republic of Korea is a smallnation on a peninsula, one of the threenations of the Far East. Here dwell thepeople who know only the unique,time-honored Lord of that nation.

You and I, we—the people estab-lished by God—cannot be ostracizedor destroyed. When I was young, Ilived in a village of people that hadbeen driven there by the Japanese-controlled Korean government. Thisnation began from God, however, anda nation that attends God will neverbe destroyed. I learned and under-stood that fact from a very young age.

God warned me long ago that I amnot allowed to run away or disappear.God has already told me that heavenwould take me away from earth, bysuch means as beating me to death, ifI went astray. What then am I to do?Whatever I do, I have to do thatwhich is of God, and I have to live mylife while centering on God. The manwho appears before you today has en-dured such a life until today aftermaking that kind of public declara-tion.

Korean people are full of grief andsorrow, and are a unique people. EvenJapan cannot compare to Korea. Thereare 193 nations registered with theUN, but only one nation came intobeing centered on God. That nation isKorea.

Who am I? I am the person thatteaches about God. If God’s will ex-ists, I am the one who knows about itand teaches it to you; and if God’slove exists, I am the person whoteaches about that love; and if Godhas possessions, I am the one who canteach you God’s singular will fromthe position of the one who can al-

ways be the owner. It is not possiblethat someone would not find hope insuch a mission and calling, is it?

Many special people are in ourchurch. You should not take thesepeople lightly. You may feel that theyare talentless and know nothing, butyou will find yourselves in trouble ifyou think little of them. Many peoplewho took Rev. Moon lightly foundthemselves in deep trouble. God is theonly one who knows what will hap-pen to such people. Even if they are tobecome God’s children, God still hasto teach them. It is not something thatjust anyone can teach.

What is it that you are learningthrough the word? Now that youknow just what kind of person is inthis place, you have to unfold yourmap and receive guidance as to whereyou are to go. This is a new age wherethose who do not know where to gowill find it difficult even to remainstanding up. What would they dothen?

We have God, our parent, whogoverns the universe. What wouldhappen therefore if we align ourselvesto the direction he takes? God cannotfail. As this is the most logical and nat-ural conclusion, you will understandwhere it is that you are to be if youfollow God, receiving his protection. You will know, in other words, whatyou have to do.

Rev. Moon knows what he has todo. I have ascended to this kind of po-sition in this chaotic age, but I have nodoubt that I will ascend to a positioneven higher than now even in an agethat is more chaotic than now as longas I am with God. If the UnificationChurch moves forward proudly withits eyes set on a goal that is evenhigher than what it has achieved sofar, its path will surely open wide.

Welcome, everyone. Iwanted to see you. I un-derstand that you haveled lives of faith ranging

from three years to forty years. I knowthat you have worked hard to thisday in various ways in order to con-tribute to providential history. Forthat, I am thankful. However, youmust not be satisfied with that. Wemust release all the bitter resentmentin our Heavenly Parent caused byfallen humankind. We have to pay in-demnity for that.

Father said that there is no perfec-tion in ignorance. We must under-stand this in order to have all humanbeing in the world enter God’s king-dom on earth, which we envision.True Parents revealed the truth. Youare blessed families that received a

new life thanks to True Parents. Doyou feel in your everyday life howprecious its value is? How much doyou actually feel this as you lead a lifeof gratitude?

Sharing makes us wealthierFallen human beings have an indem-nity condition that they have to estab-lish. True Parents revealed thisheavenly secret, resolved all this andbestowed the new grace of the bless-ing. This grace, by which you wereblessed and reborn as blessed mem-bers, is unfathomable. You must passthis spirit of loyalty to the next gener-ation. Still, that is not enough. Howcan we comfort our Heavenly Parentwho has been in pain for six-thousandyears? Through True Parents, we areaware of that path.

True Parents are the parents of hu-mankind, so they are compelled tothink about all seven billion people inthe world. I do not know to what ex-tent you live with this feeling as real-ity. The returning Lord and TrueParents are not simply the sovereignsof one nation. They are the king ofkings. They are humankind’s trueowner. You have to become citizens ofCheon Il Guk that can be obedient toand submit to them. Have thoseblessed members that were amongthe first to receive the blessing madeeffort to accomplish God’s will from aposition of unity with True Parents?

Are Japan and neighboring nationsactually attending and offering a fullbow to True Parents as the king ofkings? When we talk about issues be-tween Korea and Japan, politicians are

TRUE PARENTS’ MESSAGES 2

Let’s Share Blessings with All Our Brothers and Sisters

True Mother said the following at a banquet for loyal Japanese members that had contributed to theglobal providence. The banquet took place on November 30 at Cheon Jeong Gung.

Page 7: 12 - TongilTrue Mother is building on this and has opened the age of Cheon Il Guk. She has helped us refocus our educational initiatives by introducing two key concepts. They are simple

involved. Do they understand God’swill? You are living at the same timeas True Parents, and True Mother. That you are living at this time is pre-cious and important. Do you realizethat? Yet, responsibility has ramifica-tions. You have to fulfill your respon-sibility as heavenly tribal messiahs. The blessing is not exclusively yours. The blessing is for you to share withall your brothers and sisters in theworld. The people in the world’s na-tions are your siblings. They are TrueParents’ children. You should create apath so that they can gain life as well.

Providential history has advancedso much. Yet, there are still peoplewho are living in the present as if itwere thousands of years ago. Whenyou think about this, isn’t it lamenta-ble? One word that you say or one ac-tion could save them. What are youafraid of? You must reveal the truth.True Parents provide the only way tosolve all problems afflicting the globein this age today.

Would war may be necessary if theworld’s people recognized True Par-ents and lived according to theirteachings? What would then be theneed for national boundaries or reli-gions? There cannot be any conflict. We are aware of that path, yet howmuch longer do we have to wait? Itold you that I would place you in theranks of filial children and loyal ser-vants. A filial child cannot emergefrom a place of comfort. If someonewere to claim that he were a filialchild while sitting in a comfortableplace even though his parents weregoing through hardships, who would

recognize him as such? Your current position, the position

of an owner, is the highest position. From there, you can become a noblefamily. Whether you fulfill that re-sponsibility or not is up to you. Youshould not become people who fadeaway. Is this not a parent’s love? Wehave moved beyond Foundation Dayand are living in the era of Cheon IlGuk. Are you citizens of Cheon IlGuk? All humanity must become TrueParents’ people. Hence, I have to em-brace them as such. I have to educatethem as such. Then we can save allthose unfortunate people that are stillliving in the Old Testament age andthe New Testament age. We shouldnot be the only ones going ahead, right? You have to go with them. Doyou understand?

We must attend True Parents, be-come true people that put their faithinto action according to True Parents’teachings and form a current of truelove. This great current is surging con-tinuously toward the world, to thevast oceans. All of you must join thiscurrent. Do not become an insignifi-cant tributary. If you do, you will per-ish. New life must be born in yourwake. I have given you many exam-ples from nature. Recently, I probablytold you about the story of themonarch butterfly. With its smallbody, it travels 5,000 kilometers fromCanada to Mexico. It does so in orderto multiply. The course it needs to flywas not taught to it. Yet, it finds thatplace, returns to its hometown, andmultiplies. It travels 5,000 kilometersfrom Canada to Mexico. It travels for

eight to ten weeks. Human beings inthis fallen world are living in a waythat is less profound than this smallcreature, this insect.

You have to stimulate people’soriginal minds and teach them whatkind of beings we are and that wemust meet the True Parents. Theyhave to be reborn through True Par-ents. Only by attaining new life in thisway can they return to the state thatour Heavenly Parent envisioned forhuman beings at the time of the Cre-ation. You are equipped with theworld’s best parents, with knowledgeand with everything. You have thebest. Nothing is greater than whatyou have. In other words, you are allwealthy people. You are not wealthypeople because you have a lot ofmoney, but because you are happyand are big-hearted. Sharing this withothers should be the way you live.

If you live a happy life with every-thing you need, the final place to go isGod’s kingdom in heaven. If you livedalone in heaven, you would not behappy. You would be lonely. We haveto go all together. In this light, nobodyelse is happier than we are; nobodyelse is wealthier or more deeplyblessed than we are. We can share this.Yet the world does not share, right?Even though they already have some-thing, they still want to take awayfrom others, right? However, we shareour blessings, which is why they mul-tiply. We become wealthier. We be-come happier. This is all thanks toTrue Parents. Do you understand? Youare the happiest and wealthiest peo-ple! Do you understand?

On Friday, December 19, shespoke to a group of clerics in theAmerican Clergy LeadershipConference, which is an organiza-tion, founded by True Parents inMay 2000 to equip and empowerreligious leaders to rebuild thefamily, restore the communityand renew the nation and theworld. She spoke to them duringtheir organization’s NationalConvocation. This speech is pro-vided here in full. It is especiallysignificant because the membersof the ACLC, mainly Christianpastors, presented True Motherwith a Proclamation of Loyaltyand True Love, signed by all 330of the religious leaders that heard

her speak that day. Another rea-son this event was significant isthat an article about the event ap-peared in the Segye Times, describ-ing the event and quoting fromboth True Mother’s speech thatday and the proclamation of loy-alty presented to her by theChristian leaders. Though TrueParents are the founders of theSegye Times, non-Unificationistswork at the paper and subscribeto paper and the article about theevent appeared in the daily’s on-line edition. Following the speechare some of the responses toMother’s message written byChristian leaders.

On December 20, True Motherinaugurated the Cranes Club, asupportive network of Unification-ist professionals that aspire to con-

tribute their expertise toward thesuccessful establishment of CheonIl Guk. The founding members ofthe Cranes Club introduced them-selves to True Mother. The name ofthe club is derived from the firstsyllable of True Mother’s givenname, hak. Mother was later de-scribed as “warm and happy to seethe young businessmen andwomen in the room.”

Finally, we provide an excerptfrom the speech Mother gave atthe Christmas celebration withUnificationists, some of whom hadtraveled long distances to be withTrue Mother on this important oc-casion. Given her relationship withJesus, she spoke deeply about theprofound significance of his mis-sion and our responsibilitiestoday.

January 2015 9

True Mother had left the Cranes Club meeting but returned to have a photograph taken with everyone.

Iam glad to see your faces heretoday. I have missed you. Seeingyou, one question popped intomy mind: When we ask our-

selves whether the nature of thismeeting is public or private, when wethink about Heaven’s providentialwork, what would our relationship bewith the central figures?

You all have the title of minister ofreligion, isn’t that so? Minister of reli-gion… That is not an easy job. Am Iright or wrong about that?

God is love. When you look athuman history, you must all alreadybe aware that this fallen world beganfrom Adam’s mistake. God will fulfillwhat he originally desired, no matterwhat. This is why he has been work-ing throughout providential history tosave human beings in the fallenworld.

It took him four thousand years tobegin the people of Israel, the chosen

people. We are well aware of all theindemnity conditions that this peopleand the central figures had to makeduring these four thousand years, inorder to carry out restoration.

Heaven persevered and raised thepeople of Israel so that they might es-tablish their own nation. When it wasaccomplished, he sent his only begot-ten son, Jesus Christ. Thus, JesusChrist, the Messiah, the only begottenson, whom the people of Israel hadeagerly awaited, came. When we lookat the Bible, we see that Mary con-ceived Jesus through the Holy Spirit. There were also priests and otherswho were close to them. There werealso the magi from the east who cameto celebrate the birth of Christ.

Jesus Christ was born from suffer-ing…. Four thousand years hadpassed before Jesus Christ was able tocome. Why, then, did he have to leavethe earth when he was just thirty-

three years old? Not many religiousleaders throughout the two thousandyears of Christian history have pon-dered this question.

This is the issue: whether thosewith the position of religious leadershave understood Heaven’s provi-dence and have therefore stood in apublic position, or whether they havesought their own salvation above any-thing else. The world is celebratingthe coming Christmas week. Are thereany among you who asked why Jesushad to choose the path of the crosseven though so many people had en-dured hardships in order that hecould be born?

It was because of the circumstancesat the time… The well-renowned peo-ple of the time failed to fulfill their re-sponsibilities. Yet, when Jesus wasabout to depart this world, he prom-ised he would return. What did hesay he would do after returning?

What is the Marriage Feast of theLamb? [See Revelation 9:6–9]

It meant that he would come backand have a family; he would becomea parent. Jesus was meant to have be-come a True Parent at that time.

Then how was it that the people ofIsrael, whom Heaven had preparedthrough so much suffering and hard-ships, failed to carry out Heaven’swill? At the time, there was a greatempire, the Roman Empire.

That is why the people of Israelclung to Heaven desperately. God didwhat he promised he would do. If thepeople of Israel at the time had ful-filled their responsibilities and be-come one with Jesus, what do youthink would have happened?

America today has a great respon-sibility, which is why True Parentsspent forty years in America, time intheir lives that was as precious asgold. They endured a difficult pathbecause they are the True Parents, be-cause they are the parents that mustembrace the world.

The history of America, as weknow it, began from the sixteenthcentury when the Bible was pub-lished in English and Puritans fledtheir country seeking religious free-dom, escaping the restraints that con-fined them. They wanted to serve

God freely. This is why they riskedtheir lives in order to reach the newcontinent. That was 1620. They ar-rived at Plymouth Rock, on theƒMayflower. Isn’t that right?

They fought against hunger andbitter cold, but they did not forget toconserve the seeds they would needfor the coming spring, for the future. They thought about their descen-dants. So when they arrived on thenew continent, the first thing theydid was build a church, in which toworship God. The next was a schoolin which to educate their children, and then finally they built theirhouses. You surely know thesethings well.

God… He blessed those who stoodwith him and made effort. There aremany nations in the world, but theUnited States became the central na-tion in the world, the nation that rep-resented the free world. Its beginningwas noble and commendable.

However, America is gradually for-getting God’s providence. God sentRev. Moon here because he was wor-ried about this country. In order tosave this nation—a nation that lookedlike a democratic nation yet wasslowly being conquered by the com-munist world—with its family break-down, youth problems and crisis ofideals… Rev. Moon said he came tothis nation as a fireman to put out afire, as a doctor to cure sickness.

Many who listened to the voice of

their conscience joined this movementand were grateful to have done so.However, it is true that as the move-ment became larger, people who didnot know God’s providential will feltthreatened. However, True Parentswere leading the movement. Evenworldly parents wish good things fortheir children. Would our HeavenlyParent think only about himself andabandon his children?

In the end, the United States putRev. Moon in prison in Danbury. Yet,he forgave because he was the parent.

The reason I wanted to meet you somuch is to tell you that you must nowreveal the truth. The history of God’sprovidence has been developing stageby stage. Yet, some people still live inthe Old Testament age and some inthe New Testament age. Are ministersof religion not the ones to educate andlead such people?

However, you should not just re-main quietly in one place and thinkonly about helping and saving them.As you have seen from the video justnow, providential history has movedbeyond the Completed Testament. Now we are in the history of Cheon IlGuk. What, then, should you do insuch an age?

You are not people that concernyourselves just with matters to dowith the physical world. You all knowthe spirit world exists. The spiritworld is our ultimate destination.

We cannot live in our physical bod-

ies for hundreds of years. However, there is a world that is eternal. If weare to go there, we must rid ourselvesof everything that is wrong and that isof this world. We must shape ourminds, our bodies, our families, tribesand nations so that we can be wel-comed in the eternal world. No mat-ter how nice the place you stay in is,you will be lonely if you are the onlyone there. Do you understand? Youare the ones that should lead yourbeloved families, your tribes and yournation. This is why you must now re-veal the truth. This world is still full ofproblems left unresolved.

People of the world live in a stateof insecurity, not knowing what couldhappen to them the next day. Thebeautiful natural world is being de-

stroyed through the fault and wrong-ful actions of human beings. We liveon earth for a hundred years or so,but our descendants will take ourplaces in the future. You, the parents, should make a resolution that youwill leave your descendants a betterenvironment, so that they may cometo the eternal world after living joyfullives on earth.

Therefore, you must reveal thetruth to your flocks about True Par-ents, who were supposed to appear infront of the people of Israel two thou-sand years ago. True Parents, the oneswhom Jesus promised would cometwo thousand years after his untimelydeparture, have come to earth as thereturning Messiah, and have com-pleted and perfected the providential

history of restoration through indem-nity.

Moreover, you are children of TrueParents who have given you new life. You should think of your True Par-ents, and of the seven billion peopleon earth who do not know the TrueParents yet.

True Parents came to America andinvested much so that they couldembrace the entire world throughthis nation. Las Vegas, notably, iscalled Sin City, but it can surely serveas the city where visitors can come tolearn about the True Family move-ment, the purity movement, andabout practicing true love. Once theydo, they will go back to their homenations, where these movements willautomatically spread throughout theworld.

Then, do you think perhaps theworld might transform into oneworld centering on our Heavenly Par-ent within our lifetimes, instead oftaking centuries or millennia? You arethe pioneers of Cheon Il Guk whoneed to advance constantly in order towelcome that day. You are the proudleaders of religious congregations. Doyou understand what I am saying? Iask that you take the lead in thismovement.

Jesus, who came two thousandyears ago as the begotten son, should have met the begottendaughter and become a True

Parent. The Cain-type realm was al-ready prepared at that time in theform of the vast Roman Empire.Jesus’ path to the world was alreadyprepared through this foundation. However, this did not happen and hepromised to return, though it wouldbe after two-thousand sorrowful

years. When he said that he wouldreturn, what did he say he woulddo? He said that he would hold thefeast of the lamb. God’s providenceintended for Jesus to become theTrue Parent so that he can give newlife and resurrect fallen humankind.Yet, for two thousand years therewere many problems in Christianhistory. They could be settled only inthe sixteenth century. That’s whenthe Bible was translated into English

and to other languages making it ac-cessible to the general public, andthat’s how Christianity could spread.Isn’t this true? Christians wanted tobe free from the conventional normsand all the conditions and terms stip-ulated by the privileged class. ThePilgrim Fathers of America wantedto be free in worship God. This puri-tan movement led to the creation of anew nation that we know as Americatoday.

Dr. Matilda KamaraI can’t agree more with the need tounite for the purpose of peace.Mother Moon clearly opened myeyes, illuminating the heavenly per-spective of parenthood and how thefamily is the foundation of the com-munity and nations; how if we can fixthe family, the work toward peacefederation becomes easy. Thank you,Mother.I am truly impressed with the workand contribution that has made beentoward education. What is peace if people don’t get ed-ucation and knowledge? I am also fas-cinated about the bond of marriageexhibited between Father and Motherand the need for true sons and

daughters to uphold that principle.

Elder Walter MillsapTrue Mother, we love you. Rev. Mooncame to me in the spirit and gave the“Song of the Holy Garden,” and in thespirit we sing to Father. I sing thissong at my church. I was helped whenMother said how the world is goingdown because of sin, because offallen love. God bless you, Mother, and your family.

Rev. Daemon CabbagestalkI believe that this story and history ofhow Rev. Moon and his wife startedthe ministry—he becoming a Sunday

school teacher, and his wife being apart of a spiritual movement—should always be the foundation ofthe history of this great man andwoman.Let the world know that they startedas Christians and that they continueto be so, because many people don’tbelieve that Christ is a part of his orher life. This conference should also be takento the street because people will notcome to the conference. They are inthe street. As Rev. Moon took to thestreet in the early 60s and 70s, we theleaders should do so also. The worlddoes not have to be re-created; thefoundation is laid already, but it mustbe the pure and righteous in heart.

The progress of the history of civilization has revolved around Christianity. The heralded thousand-year kingdom has emerged bearing

the fruit of the providence of restoration. Following the proclamation of Cheon Il Guk,

we are seeking a revolutionary era dawning throughout heaven and earth. Cheon Il Guk is a nation where true love brings unity between heaven and earth,

between nations, between families, and between mind and body! True Mother is one with True Father in heaven,

and is working to have God’s will and tradition take root, as she guides the various providential initiatives being carried out

globally to establish Cheon Il Guk.

At the first meeting with mem-bers from throughout Koreafollowing True Father’s as-cension, True Mother de-

clared to God, “Until my final breath Ishall strive to establish Cheon Il Gukon earth. Father, please help me.Please do not worry.”

True Mother has risen above hersorrow at True Father’s seonghwaand proclaimed that we shall advancewithout stopping toward the estab-lishment of Cheon Il Guk. “Let us cre-ate a church,” she said, “as it was inthe early days, overflowing with theHoly Spirit and the truth. Let us estab-lish True Parents’ traditions and per-fect the blessed family ideal. Let uscomplete our mission and responsibil-ities as tribal messiahs. Let us create acommunity based on the culture ofheart.”

Following True Father’s ascension,True Mother undertook a specialforty-day devotional period. Duringthis time, she set the direction of theprovidence. She encouraged all mem-bers by saying, “We shall be well or-ganized and move forward with oneheart and one purpose centering onthe Principle. Do you understandwhat I mean? Those who resolve todo so, clap your hands to show it, and

to congratulate True Father for hisnew beginning.”

Following that worship service onthe fortieth day after True Father’s as-cension, True Mother embarked on aholy ground pilgrimage in the UnitedStates. This pilgrimage covered morethan 5,600 kilometers (3,500 miles).True Mother followed a weeklongitinerary and retraced the trail TrueFather had blazed more than thirtyyears earlier.

In New York City, she spoke to alarge audience of members. “Youshould greatly repent on behalf of theentire world,” she said. “You shouldpray, saying that you have been de-pendent on True Father for the pastforty years, as if you only struggledalong and could not offer much re-

turn. Yet God took pity on his inade-quate children. We shall do our ut-most. Please hold on to us once more.I hope you can become blessed mem-bers that can sincerely pray for this, and take action.

The pilgrimage included a meetingwith the Korean ambassador to theUnited Nations and a meeting withUN Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon.True Mother took the opportunity tothank Secretary-General Ban for hisrecent message of condolence. She in-troduced him to our peace initiativesand invited his support.

Foundation Day was finally pro-claimed on the thirteenth day of thefirst month on the heavenly calendarin 2013. In the Cheongshim PeaceWorld Center, in a moment reminis-cent of the first chapter of Genesis,True Mother said, “I hereby declare toour Heavenly Parent that I have des-ignated this nation Cheon Il Guk, andoffer to Heaven the rose and lily as thenational flowers, the crane as the na-tional bird, together with the Cheon IlGuk flag and the Cheon Il Guk na-tional anthem. Today, on this, the thir-teenth day of the first month of 2013, Iproclaim the founding year of CheonIl Guk!”

True Mother instructed all of us tomarch forward toward the establish-ment of Cheon Il Guk. She offered her

gratitude to heaven and bestowedblessings on humankind. “HeavenlyParent, may glory be with Heavenand may praise and exaltation over-flow in all people on earth.”

Since Foundation Day, members ofthe global Unification family havebeen carrying out their missions astribal messiahs while taking part invarious providential initiativesaround the globe.

Holy scripturesThe most urgent and important provi-dential task in this time of cosmic rev-olution was the compilation of thethree great scriptural texts, the HolyScriptures of Cheon Il Guk, which areneeded to establish the Cheon Il Guktradition and to serve as a guide for

our members’ faith. The words of loving parents are

eternal; they transcend time andspace. This is even more so withGod’s word; it transcends history, transcends ages and eras, transcendsideologies and transcends philosophy.God’s word is more precious than thewords of any human being.

The Principle and words of truelove, true life and the true lineage arethe greatest treasures of all, and areeternal. Cheon Seong Gyeong was re-vised to include True Parents’speeches from the year 2000 onward.Pyeong Hwa Gyeong is a compilation of178 public speeches given in varioussettings. Cham Bumo Gyeong containsa record of True Parents’ life coursesand achievements.

True Mother guided the entireprocess of compiling these holy scrip-tures herself with profound devotionfrom beginning to end, including theselection of major themes. Based onTrue Mother’s devotion and withTrue Father’s spiritual guidance, themembers of the compilation commit-tee spent countless hours throughoutthe day and night selecting and com-piling appropriate and inspiring pas-sages for each theme.

month on the heavenly calendar in2013, the day Foundation Day wasproclaimed, Cheon Seong Gyeong andPyeong Hwa Gyeong were offered toHeaven. Efforts have accelerated sothat Cham Bumo Gyeong can be offeredto Heaven as scheduled, on the sec-ond anniversary of Foundation Day.

True Mother’s joy on the day of thepublication of these holy scriptures re-flects Heaven’s will and the devotionof those on earth.

Earlier, on the anniversary of thefounding of the Holy Spirit Associa-tion for the Unification of WorldChristianity, we had held a ceremonyin the Cheongpyeong Heaven andEarth Training Center to commemo-rate the publication of Cheon SeongGyeong and Pyeong Hwa Gyeong. Onthat day, June 10, 2013, True Motherexplained, “Father’s life achievementsare like true gems of truth to fallenhumanity. I am truly grateful andoverjoyed, thinking that the word inits intact form has become beautifuljewels aligned on one thread to formthis book, Cheon Seong Gyeong. We arein the position in which from now onwe must accelerate our efforts towardthe Cheon Il Guk era. I believe thatthe word will become the center, andbecome the fruit and the pillar of thesubstantial Cheon Il Guk. How happyGod would be if you could becomeone with the word and fulfill your re-sponsibilities and missions in your re-

spective positions?”The Japanese and English versions

of Cheon Seong Gyeong and PyeongHwa Gyeong have been published.Members are now gradually translat-ing the holy scriptures into other lan-guages. The more we absorb theseholy scriptures, the more we find our-selves in the living Heavenly Parent’spresence, where we can revisit thestrenuous course of our True Parents, who are guiding all of us toward be-coming the human beings envisionedat the time of the Creation.

The Cheon Il Guk ConstitutionThe Cheon Il Guk Constitution waspromulgated on the first anniversaryof Foundation Day by True Mother, ”Ihereby promulgate the Cheon Il GukConstitution and announce the twelvemembers of the Supreme Council infront of our Heavenly Parent and allof the cosmos.”

The Cheon Il Guk Constitution isrooted in the Family Pledge and inGod’s word. The constitution consistsof eleven chapters, 92 articles and 190clauses. It begins with a preambleoverviewing the providence ofrestoration and the purpose of theconstitution’s enactment.

The preamble states, “The constitu-tion contains principles, norms andguidelines by which we are to em-body the substantial word—as TrueParents have done throughout their

lives—and by which we are to estab-lish and complete Cheon Il Guk. Weare to do this through a practical anduniversal system in daily life, in thefamily, and in the churches—on thenational and global levels.” Regardingthis True Mother explained, “Once anation forms, the norms and laws tobe upheld in that nation must be es-tablished so that the tradition of at-tending our Heavenly Parent can becarried on perpetually in future gen-erations. This will be a unified worldcentered on God.”

After the proclamation of Founda-tion Day, efforts to draft a constitu-tion, which had begun in the early2000s in response to True Father’sguidance, gained speed. Before itspromulgation, more than a thousandpeople from twenty-one nations re-viewed the proposed Cheon Il GukConstitution text in one or more ofeight public hearings. They reviewedeach word, sentence and paragraph, and corrected and improved themwhere necessary.

The constitution stipulates the ex-tent of the authority of the SupremeCouncil and the five organs of the op-erating body of Cheon Il Guk. Theseare the Cheon Jeong Won serves asthe executive branch, the Cheon EuiWon as the legislative branch and theCheon Beob Won as the judicialbranch. On the second anniversary of TrueFather’s seonghwa, the History Com-pilation Committee, which in re-sponse to True Parents’ guidance hasbeen recording and managing mate-rial of providentially historic signifi-cance, dedicated True Parents’ HistoryArchive.

After unveiling the sign above thedoor, True Mother offered a prayer ofblessing. After the ribbon-cutting andsanctification of the new facility, TrueMother inspected materials catego-rized under seven major themes.

This facility gathers all the histori-cal material relevant to True Parents’courses, including audio files of TrueFather’s speeches as far back as 1956,material from important events, andrecords related to blessed families.

The facility not only preserves therecords but also allows visitors toview the material. In the future, itwill serve as an academy where peo-ple can learn about True Parents’lives.

With the opening of True Parents’History Archive, an archiving systemfor video material is now in full oper-ation. The History Compilation Com-mittee has stored more than thirtythousand videos. These materials gothrough a digitalization process to re-move any stains and scratches on thefilm and re-create it in a crisp andclear digital video form.

These historical records will bestored and preserved digitally. In thefuture, publications, multimedia serv-ices and other internet-based servicessuch as PeaceTv will be providedfrom this single source.

The Sunhak Peace Prize Commit-tee has begun publicizing the prize, and preparations to present it for thefirst time, at True Father’s Seonghwaanniversary in 2015, are going ahead.

True Mother, said of this, “TheWonmo Pyeongae Foundation willcontinue its work to establish the Sun-hak Peace Prize, which could surpassthe Nobel Peace Prize. As a group thatworks for the will of Heaven andpeace for humanity instead of thehonor of an individual or group, theWonmo Pyeongae Foundation willcome to be in a historic position.”

The Cheonji Sunhak Won will bean educational hall highlighting TrueParents’ lives and achievements.Mother expects it to be completed by2020 on eleven acres of land nearCheon Jeong Gung. The facility will contain depictionsof major chapters in True Parents’ lifecourses and will seek to representtheir intense efforts to liberate Godand to save humankind and their con-tributions to a peaceful world.

As Mother said on November 12,at Cheon Jeong Gung, “Church mem-bers from the early years will remem-ber True Father saying this fifty yearsago: ‘There will come a day whenboats will line up endlessly to land onBusan’s shores, and when endless

lines of people face wherever TrueParents are.’ Does this feel real to you?

You have to make this a reality. Inthat sense, the Cheonji Sunhak Wonmuseum should be a futuristic, multi-purpose, cultural space. It should be aplace where whoever enters wouldwant to sign up to become a memberby the time they exit.”

Some of True Mother’s 2014 speechesTrue Mother’s five-city speaking tourin Japan, began right after FoundationDay. While reminding them of theirmission, True Mother comforted theJapanese members who have offeredthemselves full-time for God’s will.“A mother should embrace all herchildren around the world.

She should embrace and educateher children, introducing True Fatherto them and guiding them into TrueParents’ bosom. Such a responsibilityis a blessing bestowed on Japan byHeaven.”

True Mother also presided over anumber of global worship servicesand meetings at the CheongpyeongPeace World Center and Cheon JeongGung, while promoting campaignsfor peace and unification throughoutthe world.

The Unification movement is lead-ing the way toward the reunificationof the two Koreas. Peace initiativesthrough mountain hiking clubs andambassadors for peace continue.Whenever signs arise of hostilitiesanywhere in our global village, TrueMother conveys Heaven’s message tohelp ease these disputes.

At the end of 2013, when conflictsin the relationship between the fourpowerful nations that have a stake inthe Korean situation emerged, a peaceconference was organized. “If neigh-boring nations in Asia can unite underthe spirit of loving Heaven, loving hu-mankind and loving one’s nation,”she told the assembled guests, “I amsure that peace can spread from Asiato the world. Isn’t that so?”

She continued, “If blessed mem-bers of the Unification communityand ambassadors for peace can pro-mote internal stability, taking the leadin the true family movement and purelove movement, these efforts can actu-ally become a force to prevent the de-structive influence of juveniledelinquency and breakdown of fami-lies that is afflicting the entire world.”

The Segye Times and the govern-ment in Gyeong-gi Province arejointly promoting the idea of havingthe United Nations’ fifth headquartersestablished in Korea. A symposiumwas held at the end of October inGeneva, Switzerland, to rally interna-tional public opinion around this idea.

The UN has offices in New York City,Geneva, Vienna, and Nairobi. If a fifthoffice were installed in Korea’s Demil-itarized Zone, it could play an impor-tant role in bringing about peacebetween the two Koreas.

“Today, it is not possible to claimhappiness, freedom and peace whileonly pursuing one’s own national in-terests. Many national borders exist. We witness racial and religious con-flict and are surrounded by innumer-able barriers. We must communicatewith one another. To do that, we musthave one center, one goal. We can cre-ate one united world that our Heav-enly Parent, True Parents and all ofhumankind desire.

and God’s only-begotten son, TrueMother is the substantial body of theHoly Spirit, the third Eve and God’sonly-begotten daughter.

After returning from her time of of-fering devotion in the Alps, TrueMother further explained the statureand significance of God’s only-begot-ten daughter, which until now wehave not emphasized much in ourtheology.

Be heavenly tribal messiahsTrue Parents have passed on theirrealm of cosmic victory and traditionto us and blessed each of us to be-come a true parent, true teacher andtrue owner of our respective tribes.

When True Mother learned thattwo couples had restored 430 couplesfrom their tribe, she organized aworld level celebration. She used thisas an opportunity to remind allblessed families of her desire that wefulfill our mission as tribal messiahsand to become noble families.

She spoke directly to our heartswhen she said, “We have commemo-rated the second anniversary of TrueFather’s ascension and are headingtoward the third anniversary. At thispoint, what should we be determinedto do? In his final prayer, as he wasleaving us, Father asked that we fulfillour responsibilities as tribal messiahs. How seriously have you been puttingthat into practice in your lives?”

True Mother’s voice broke out of

her fervent desire for members toawaken from their slumber. Howmany times have we talked of our re-solve to restore our tribes? Heartsfilled with repentance.

Yet, True Mother inspired opti-mism in all that came to hear her thatday. “The tribal messiah movement isnow surging beyond Thailand andthe Philippines to other nations inAsia. It is sweeping across the regionsof Europe, North America, SouthAmerica, Africa, Oceania and theMiddle East. In the wake of this greatcurrent, countless people will experi-ence rebirth.”

Representative members re-sponded with the reading of a firmresolution on that October 26 day: Letus find one heart, one body, onemind-set, one harmony! We desire tobecome one with True Parents. We be-lieve all members can become thelight of their tribes, if blessed familiescan make God’s will the goal of theirlives and live in that way. We resolvethat until the day we die we’ll striveto become pillars of Cheon Il Guk;people that forgive, love and unite inorder to establish a unified world thatattends our Heavenly Parent, in a free, peaceful, united and happy Cheon IlGuk of freedom. This we resolve. Thiswe resolve!

Thinking of my friendIt is spring in Cheon Il Guk, wherelove is overflowing all year round.

True Parents want to convey theirunited hearts through song. TrueMother’s sings as she guides theprovidence while thinking of True Fa-ther in the heavenly world.

Her responsible lifestyleUnknown to the members, TrueMother has spent many sleeplessnights offering conditions, while feel-ing concerned about the establish-ment of Cheon Il Guk, and thewell-being of blessed families. For-give, love, unite: True Mother is ask-ing all of us to be reborn as tribalmessiahs that can spread the true loveFLU forgiveness, love and unity—toevery cell in our bodies.

Look to natureOver the course of several months, monarch butterflies fly more than fivethousand kilometers to a place theyhave never been before. Cranes flyover the Himalayas while braving theharsh winds and even threats fromeagles. Let us learn from nature’s ex-ample and follow the path of a tribalmessiah while investing everythingwe have as we walk in True Parents’footsteps. Young people are seeking torestore 430 couples! Investing our-selves until our last breath to establishCheon Il Guk is our heavenly man-date.

We have adjusted the script text slightly foruse as reading material.

Members from the Sun-chang Family Church lo-cated in Sunchang County,North Jeolla Province,

Korea, met at the Sunchang CatholicCathedral at 7:30 PM on November 13to conduct a joint mass, a Catholicworship service with local Catholics.During mass, Father Lee Sang-yong,welcomed the FFWPU members say-ing that God’s kingdom is not createdsolely through specific individuals orgroups but should be created throughthe combined efforts of all faiths. Inresponse, Rev. Kang Kyeong-woo,pastor in charge of our SunchangFamily Church thanked Father Leefor welcoming his congregation andfor his extraordinary expression oftrue love originating from our Heav-enly Parent. He noted that duringmost of its sixty-years of existence, thenearly two-thousand-year-oldCatholic Church had been brandingthe Unification Church as heretical.Rather than being a one-time event,Rev. Kang proposed continuing theseexchanges so that the two denomina-tions could reach the point of regard-ing each other as siblings. After massthat day, Father Lee, Rev. Kang andothers engaged in conversations andpromised to meet again.

Religious people join handsMembers of the Sunchang FamilyChurch are actively carrying out inter-faith activities in line with True Par-ents’ vision. As part of these efforts,on January 14, they established theSunchang Association of ReligiousPeople. Leading up to the establish-ment of this association, the SunchangFamily Church focused its efforts onpromoting interfaith harmony andpeace and inviting religious leaders inthe local community to its open wor-ship services. Ven. Ko Jae-young, di-rector of the Sunchang CountyMulticultural Family Support Center,

who is also a monk from the WonBuddhist Order, was deeply im-pressed at seeing our blessed familiesactively engaging in service activitiesin Sunchang County. He soon beganto cooperate with the Sunchang Fam-ily Church whenever it hosted eventsrelated to multicultural families. Hehas also participated in the open wor-ship services. Mr. Kang Byeong-moon, the former head of theConfucian Institute in Sunchang, andthe first president of the SunchangAmbassador for Peace Association, was another frequent participant inthe open worship services.

One day, after the open worshipservice, our Rev. Kang proposed theidea of hosting an interfaith service toVen. Ko and Mr. Kang, the Confucian.Ven. Ko showed enthusiastic supportwhile Mr. Kang, the Confucian, agreed to take part in this initiative.Later, Ven. Ko introduced our Rev.Kang to Ven. Beob Yeon from theGangcheonsa Temple in Sunchangand Father Lee of the SunchangCathedral. On this foundation, mem-bers of two Buddhist orders, adher-ents of Confucianism, CatholicChurch members and FFWPU mem-bers came together to create the Sun-chang Association of ReligiousPeople. Our Rev. Kang explained hisplans to meet representatives from theSunchang branch of the ChristianCouncil of Korea and invite them tojoin this association. He expressed hisdetermination to contribute to thelocal society through this associationin line with True Parents’ teachingsthat religion should take the lead inpromoting harmony and peace in so-ciety.

On March 21, the associationhosted an interfaith meeting, the thirdof its kind, at the Educational Hall ofthe Sunchang Family Church. Partici-pants were people from six differentreligious groups: our Rev. Kang, Mr.

Kang, the Confucian, Mr. Kim Kab-yong, current head of the Confucianinstitution in Sunchang, Rev. Kangfrom the General Assembly of Presby-terian Church in Korea, Father Lee,Ven. Ko and Ven. Beob Yeon. ThePresbyterian Rev. Kang, who partici-pated as a believer in Christianity, ini-tially showed resistance because of hispreconceptions about the Family Fed-eration, but the other religious leadersexpressed deep respect for True Par-ents’ global accomplishments. OurRev. Kang invited his fellow religiousleaders to the eleventh Ambassadorsfor Peace Workshop for Peace inNortheast Asia, which took place inJapan in May for four days. FatherLee and Ven. Ko promised to attendthe next workshop.

On October 28, all the members ofSunchang Association of ReligiousPeople traveled to our holy ground inCheongpyeong. Secretary-generalKwon In-jin from the Association ofReligions in Korea guided them to theCheongpyeong Heaven and EarthTraining Center and the holy groundat the Tree of Blessing. He also guidedthem to the other facilities in theCheongpyeong area including theCheongshim Peace World Center andCheongshim International Hospital.Mr. Kwon explained to the delegationthat Rev. Sun Myung Moon began in-vesting in the Cheongpyeong area atthe end of 1960 and prayed deeply forthe sake of world peace and the salva-tion of humankind. This area is radi-ant with a beautiful naturalenvironment and is an appropriateplace for anybody to come to pray ormediate in order to train mind andbody. One of the members of thisdelegation expressed that he was hon-ored to be able to visit Cheong-pyeong, the mecca of the FamilyFederation, remarking how he couldsee Rev. Another expressed his wish togo to the Cheon Jeong Gung museumon his next visit so that he can seewith his own eyes the spiritual legacyRev. Moon left behind.

Daily practice On May 17, at the Sunchang CountyYouth Support Center, the SunchangFamily Church launched the Sun-chang Multicultural Youth ServiceCorps with the participation of morethan 130 people including local lead-ers of society, religious leaders andfifty service corps members. In atelegram, Mr. Kang Dong-won, mem-ber of Korea’s National Assemblycongratulated us on the launch of thismulticultural youth service corps. Inhis message, Representative Kang ex-pressed his wish that the spirit ofhelping and serving our neighbors indifficulties would serve as an examplefor the youths in the area, at a timewhen many Koreans were still in sor-row, anger and despair because of thetragic sinking of the Sewol ferry. Heexpressed his appreciation to theyouths and multicultural families forbeing part of this service corps. Themembers of the Sunchang Associationof Religious People, Ms. Lym Geum-soon, head of the Sunchang DistrictVolunteer Service Center, Ms. Nam

Hye-ja its secretary general and othermembers of the association took partin this ceremony to encourage thenewly formed service corps.

Earlier, on September 3, 2008, theSunchang Family Church formed theSunchang Multi-cultural Family Vol-leyball Team. This team is a memberof the Volleyball Association underthe Sunchang District Council ofSports for All. It often hosts volleyballtournaments to promote exchangesthrough sports among members oflocal volleyball teams. In the begin-ning, a women’s volleyball team wasformed in which many mothers fromblessed families came together totrain during the day. Later, after someof these women began to find em-ployment, the training time waschanged to 8 pm on Fridays. This en-abled the husbands and children tojoin the volleyball teams. This soonevolved into a family-oriented sportsinitiative that promoted the healthand well-being of our blessed fami-lies in the Sunchang Family Church. These families soon expanded theiractivities to table tennis and bad-minton. On October 15, the table ten-nis team visited the Muju FamilyChurch and held a tournamentamong its youths, invigorating theyouth association in both churches. Inthis way, members at the SunchangFamily Church were able to create aharmonious atmosphere at churchthrough sports, which furtherstrengthened the foundation of theirheart-based community. This has in-vigorated members to become moreactive in their witnessing activities.

In the meantime, elder members at

the Sunchang Family Church weretaking musical lessons from a Chris-tian elder, Yu Jae-bok, the president ofthe Sunchang Branch of the NationalSijo Association, which celebrates atype of poetry. Mr. Yu was already in-volved in interfaith activities when hebecame acquainted with the Sun-chang Family Church. He proposedthe creation of a Multicultural FamilySijo Choir. From the beginning of theprevious year, he had conducted thechoir for an hour a week. Once thisSijo Choir began performing at theopen worship service, Mr. Yu’s associ-ates from organizations affiliated withtraditional cultural music began toparticipate in these services. Many ofhis associates were civil servants andofficials from educational circles. Theybecame interested in the activities ofFFWPU and they promised to pro-mote and support these activities. TheMulticultural Family Sijo Choir wonthe top prize at the first National Mul-ticultural Arirang Tournament held inearly October 2013. In October thisyear, they won first prize in the groupentry at the fifth National Sijo Tourna-ment in Memory of the one hundredand fourth anniversary of the sacrificeof Master Hwang Hyeon, who appre-ciated sijo poetry and who committedsuicide in protest against Japan’s an-nexation of Korea. In this way, mem-bers at Sunchang Family Church areputting True Parents’ teachings intoaction towards the fulfillment of theirprovidential vision. Even today, withthe conviction and pride in their plen-tiful harvest, they are testifying aboutTrue Parents to their neighbors andrelatives.

Recently regarding the AsianPacific region of the world,Richard N. Haass, presidentof the Council on Foreign Re-

lations, stated, “After decades inwhich the history of this part of theworld has been dominated by eco-nomic issues, we are beginning to seethe reemergence of geopolitical con-cerns, the competition of nationalism. The real question is: Can the diplo-macy of the Asia Pacific region handlethese new pressures? If we begin tosee the tectonic plates really moving, the danger is that twenty-first centuryAsia could begin to go the way oftwentieth century Europe.” He madethese comments in an online multime-dia presentation “China’s MaritimeDisputes,” produced by the council heheads. An event held in Japan directlyaddressed the nightmarish scenarioDr. Haass described, one in which themost violent century in history, largely because of wars based on Eu-ropean soil, would be repeated in Asiain the century we are currently livingthrough. The viewpoint of the organ-izers of a recent series of talks in Japanmirrored that of the Council on For-eign Relations—the challenge is tohave mature diplomatic mechanism

in place to deal with disputes beforethey become armed conflicts. Thetheme of the event was “TowardsAsia’s Community for Peace Based onthe EU Model “War, Never Again!—ASystem of Peace Overcame Hostili-ties.”

Rising heat in Asia Currently, China claims 90 percent ofthe territory covered by the SouthChina Sea. Its claims to the sea itselfraise a territorial issue with Vietnam,Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines andTaiwan, because the area of the SouthChina Sea these nations claim as na-tional territory overlap China’sclaims.

Vietnam, the Philippines andChina each claim the Parcel Islandsand Spratly Islands in the SouthChina Sea as its national territory.Meanwhile, the Philippines andChina dispute ownership over theScarborough Shoal (also known as theHalf Moon Shoal) which is also in theSouth China Sea. These disputes ac-cording to Vice-Dean Shen Dingli, head of the Institute of InternationalAffairs at Fudan University in China, who appears in “China’s MaritimeDisputes,” are “largely about econom-

ics, fishery and the seabed.” By theseabed, he is referring to oil and gasreserves beneath the seabed. Some ex-perts estimate the South China Seacontains 80 percent of the oil reservesto be found in Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, the territorydispute between Japan and China, named the Senkaku Islands or DiaoyuIslands by the two claimants respec-tively, are another matter. Vice-DeanShen Dingli calls this dispute a politi-cal matter. “China sees that we wereinvaded by Japan and Japan stole ourisland.”

Addressing the issues Dr. Willem Frederic van Eekelen, for-mer defense minister of the Nether-lands and a former secretary generalof the Western European Union wasthe key speaker at the Japan-EuropeSpecial Lecture, given in Nagoya onNovember 15, Fukuoka on Novem-ber 16 and in Tokyo on each of the fol-lowing two days. At the final event, about a hundred leading figures, in-cluding diplomats, scholars, religiousleaders and journalists listened to Dr.Eekelen’s keynote address: East Asia’sSecurity and Prospects for Japan–Eu-rope Cooperation.

The forum began with remarks byMr. Hayashi Masahisa, professoremeritus of the Waseda Universityand director of the Institute for PeacePolicies, followed by comments madeby Tokuno Eiji, president of the UPF-Japan, representing the two organiz-ers. Stressing the international statusof the Netherlands, Director Hayashisaid, “Holland was actively involvedin the reconstruction of Europe, as itwas one of the five founding nationsof the European Coal and Steel Com-munity (ECSC), which was the har-binger of the European Union.” Inaddition to the Netherlands, the

founding nations of the ECSC in-cluded France, Germany, Italy, Bel-gium and Luxembourg. The Frenchforeign minister, Robert Schuman, proposed the ECSC in 1950. Themember nations pooled their coal andsteel resources. They removed tariffsand other restrictions on imports andexports between the member coun-tries and unified their labor markets. The Treaty of Paris signed in 1952 es-tablished the ECSC.

The most important addition wasGermany. The German economy wasseen as the engine of Europe. Awidely held belief was that Europe’srecovery from the economic devasta-tion of World War II would not havebeen possible without Germany. Thus, despite the fact that Germanmilitary resurgence was deeplyfeared, Europeans wanted and des-perately needed Germany’s peacefuleconomic cooperation. The ECSC wasthe beginning point of what wouldgrow into the European Union, whichbegan as the European EconomicCommunity in 1957. It might be saidthat countries in China’s neighbor-hood are nearly as leery of Chinatoday as European countries were ofGermany in 1950, when France pro-posed the ECSC.

President Tokuno said about Dr.Eekelen’s address, “It will be interest-ing for us to hear the example of theEU, which received the Noble PeacePrize, with a view to applying theirprocess in East Asia.” PresidentTokuno explained that

Dr. Song Yeon-cheon, president ofthe Blessed Family Associations inJapan and chairman of UPF there, hasknown Dr. Eekelen for many yearsfrom the time when he (Dr. Song) wasregional president in Europe. Presi-dent Tokuno added, “Dr. Eekelenhelped UPF organize many symposiaon peace in several European coun-tries. Thanks to their friendship, Dr.Eekelen accepted Dr. Song’s invitationto visit to Japan this time.”

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Songreferred to Dr. Eekelen’s previous visitto Japan four years ago in order to ap-peal for “freedom of faith and humanrights.” Dr. Song continued, “The EastAsian region faces variety of geopolit-ical challenges such as China’s hege-mony-seeking expansion, NorthKorea’s nuclear adventurism and fric-

tions over Japan’s history.” Dr. Songexplained the significance of theforum by saying, “The European con-tinent underwent many upheavals in-cluding two world wars, the cold warand trials and errors involving ethnic-ity, race and religion. Dr. Eekelen willoffer precious advice to Japanese lead-ers.”

German cooperation and peaceIn his keynote address, Dr. Eekelenfirst explained the meaning andprocess of the EU’s establishment.“Based on past experiences up toWorld War II, Europe was determinednever to go to another war. Leaders ofthe time attempted to set up a system(though not quite perfect) that wouldprevent a war by overcoming hostili-ties; this made a strong impact uponEurope.”

Dr. Eekelen said, “Germany has be-come one of the most democratic na-tions in Europe. My country, Holland, was occupied by Germany during thewar, but our people have empathywith the contemporary Germany.” Hementioned an episode involvingPoland’s then foreign minister, Ra-doslaw Sikorski (2007–September2014), who paid a visit to Berlin sev-eral years ago. Mr. Sikorski told theGermans, “In the past we used to beannoyed by Germany’s assertive be-havior, but at present we are annoyedby Germany’s inaction.”

Incidentally, during the time thatDr. Eekelen was in Japan, his wifeseparately attended a ceremony ofreconciliation between Japan and Hol-land under the auspices of Japan’sForeign Ministry in the city of Na-gasaki, west of Tokyo. She was one offourteen invited relatives of Dutchpeople that had been interned inprison camps in Indonesia by theJapanese army during World War II.

Dr. Eekelen introduced her positiveimpression about a new, democra-tized Japan. Mindful of Japan’s diffi-cult relations with South Korea, Dr.Eekelen suggested, “Why doesn’tJapan apply a similar program withSouth Korea?”

Finally, Dr. Eekelen pointed out,“As demonstrated internationally byUPF, if we can understand why yourcounterparts in China or South Koreaact this way or that way, the mutualunderstanding could bring aboutagreement and cooperation withthem. That was what Europe hasdone right.”

Before the final forum in Tokyo, Dr.Eekelen held a press conference withreporters of major media organs onNovember 18 at the Japan NationalPress Club. Dr. Eekelen expressed hisconviction, “For security considera-tions, one of the most vital elements isto understand circumstances of youradversaries.” Along this line ofthought, he mentioned, “One of themost significant international projectsconducted by the UPF is the MiddleEast Peace Initiative which promotesreconciliation between Israel andPalestine.... Democracy is a superbsystem because it respects the minor-ity, as well.” This was to stress the im-portance of reconciliation amonggroups in conflicts. Another point hemade in response to a reporter’s ques-tion was “Freedom without responsi-bility is useless…. The rule of lawcould be abused when a governmentapplies it according to rulers’ whims.”He warned about social prejudicesand about indulging in superficial slo-gans about freedom, democracy orrule of law.

This was based on an article in the Englishversion of the Japanese newsletter “Vision2020.”

Only because of HeavenlyParent’s guidance and pro-tection and because of TrueParents’ victorious founda-

tion we have and have been able tocomplete this incredibly precioustribal messiah mission. We all knowfrom True Father’s teachings thatbeing tribal messiahs is our final re-sponsibility and mission in order toinherit True Parents’ foundation ofvictories and to realize Cheon Il Gukhere on earth.

Therefore, by 2006, after my step-ping down from my almost twenty-year mission as national leader ofThailand, our family decided to startpioneering the mission of tribal mes-siahs using our own home. When westarted on the course to restore 430blessed couples, we did not knowwhen nor how we could complete

our mission, but we were deter-mined to start and eventually to ac-complish this goal. We knew that ourfamily needed to an internal and anexternal foundation. Conjugal unityis of prime importance to undertakethis mission. My wife was totallycommitted. She has been the key tothe development and success of ourmission.

Our initial planWe needed more spiritual children towork with us to build the necessaryfoundation to expand to the triballevel. Therefore, we began witnessingto students at Ramkhamhaeng Uni-versity, who went through three-day,five-day and twenty-one-day DivinePrinciple Workshops. They stayed inour home with our children, as if wehad adopted them.

They attended morning hoon-dokhae with us before leaving for theuniversity. When they had free time, they joined in student witnessing, raised funds or did public serviceprojects. Our home became like asmall hoondok family church.

We gained university studentmembers one by one. After two years,we had more than twenty membersand we had to rent a nearby house toaccommodate our student members.Even though we could increase mem-bers gradually, maintaining or acceler-ating the growth of studentmembership was not easy. Many uni-versity students already had prob-lems. Finding pure, self-motivateduniversity students on campus wasdifficult. Gaining enough members tofulfill our tribal messiah missionwould take too long.

Cheon Il Guk and the Heavenly Tribal Messiah Mission

Spiritual children’s rootsConsequently, utilizing Pure LoveCampaigns and service activities, westarted to reach out to and build rela-tionships with the high schools thatour student members came from inThailand’s northeast region. With thetrust and support of these highschools, we could screen and findmany good, pure students and de-velop relationships with them.

Gradually, we developed our pilotproject and opened our homestayModel Youth Program, providingscholarships for high school gradu-ates that wanted to study atBangkok’s Ramkhamhaeng Univer-sity with the consent of the school andthe parents. We only accepted stu-dents that had passed through ourPure Love education workshop series, service activities and interviews. Theparents were very happy that whilethe university educated their children,we would take care of their childrenand guide them to become model, successful, good young people andprotect them from smoking, drinking, drugs and sexual problems.

How the students faredOnce they graduated from highschool and entered our program in

Bangkok, we guided them throughorientation and a series of educationalprograms, Divine Principle work-shops and training activities duringtheir first few months. After sixmonths, almost all of them becamefaithful, dedicated student membersthat could return to do activities intheir hometown high schools. There, they guided and witnessed to the newhigh school students, persuadingthem to join our Model Youth Pro-gram the following year. Each yearwe were able to recruit a higher num-ber of students into our program fromtwenty to thirty to forty and to fifty ormore students per year. We continueto maintain trust and develop goodrelationships with the high schoolsand the students’ parents.

Foundation Day nears By 2012, we had six student centers toaccommodate more than a hundredstudent members. Gradually, theolder students and students who hadgraduated went through the BlessingCeremony, but we were still far fromreaching the goal of 430 couples.

We thought that if we increased thenumber of students we took in peryear to a hundred, eventually wewould reach four or five hundred that

would graduate in a few years’ timeand become blessed members. In thisway, it would take us four or fivemore years to reach the goal, but 2013and Foundation Day were fast ap-proaching.

National level struggleAs many of you know, our True Par-ents and the Thai church had gonethrough severe national persecutionbeginning in 1991. A court case hadcaused deep concern and heartache toour True Parents. My wife and I andsix other young leaders had gonethrough twenty-one months’ impris-onment without possibility of bailafter being arrested in June 1991 andcharged with the most severe offensesunder Thailand’s National SecurityAct by what was then a military gov-ernment. The prosecution only al-lowed us to post bail and obtain ourrelease in 1993 after the military gov-ernment had been replaced followingbloody demonstrations in May 1992.

Since then, as national leaders, mywife and I had to work to revive andrebuild our movement’s foundationin Thailand by serving and loving thenation while fighting the court case inorder to defend our True Parents’ andour movement’s name and dignity.

We first won in court after twelveyears, but the government appealedthe decision. We won in the AppellateCourt two years later, but the govern-ment exerted its maximum power topush the case up to the SupremeCourt. Legally this was an unusual, indeed unjustified, measure. Our caseseemed frozen at the Supreme Courtlevel.

After another seven years, on Sep-tember 1, 2011, even Satan could nolong accuse us and had to surrender. We finally obtained absolute victory.Reporting our liberation from thiscourt case to our True Parents andseeing our True Father’s expression ofextraordinary joy and happiness wasour moment of greatest joy.

Galvanized by circumstancesA turning point came when True Fa-ther suddenly ascended to the spiri-tual world. We were so shocked andfelt sad that Father left us before Foun-dation Day. We felt ashamed that wehad not accomplished enough of ourresponsibilities when True Father wasstill with us. We thought about howwe could offer more to comfort ourTrue Father’s heart and True Mother’sheart. We could not do very much.

With the great support from Re-gional President Yong, in October2012, after True Father’s Seonghwa,we launched the Southern ThailandPeace Initiative and the model of theInterfaith Peace Blessing through theAsia Regional UPF International

Leadership Seminar in SongkhlaProvince. This Interfaith Peace Bless-ing became the model and the foun-dation for the launching of our tribalmessiah Interfaith Peace Blessing withthe support and cooperation of UPFand FFWPU Thailand.

After hearing Father’s last wishand prayer about the tribal messiahmission, we felt renewed determina-tion to fulfill tribal messiah missionbefore Foundation Day.

Trying a new approachIn order to do that, we had to developa strategy to complete the educationand blessing of 430 couples withinDecember 2012. At the beginning ofNovember, we made the plan and en-couraged all of our student membersto go back to their hometowns to in-vite their parents and relatives withthe total minimum goal of five hun-dred couples to attend a two-day pro-gram of UPF and FFWPU familyeducation and an Interfaith PeaceBlessing on December 1–2 2012.

On the day of the Blessing Cere-mony, more than a thousand peoplefilled the hotel ballroom in Khonkaen,in Thailand’s northeast region. Theevent was the first breakthrough thetribal messiah blessing of 650 couples. We offered this success just a monthbefore the Foundation Day.

Since the Blessing Ceremony, weare determined to breakthrough in ed-ucating and encouraging all the cou-ples to follow the blessed family

tradition completely including the In-demnity Stick ceremony, forty-dayseparation and the three-day cere-mony to become genuine blessed cou-ples. Many couples have voluntarilybegun following True Parents’ tradi-tions for blessed families. We continueto give follow-up education and toguide them to complete three-day cer-emony group by group.

Dreams and visionsUnexpectedly, couples that had com-pleted the three-day ceremony havehad deep spiritual experiences anddreams about True Parents and aredeveloping a heart-to-heart relation-ship with True Parents.

They also gained a lot of good for-tune financially, protection from lifethreatening accidents and have hadlife changing experiences in their fam-ilies (such as being able to stop smok-ing, drinking, or fighting).

These phenomena testify to the factthat once they have completed thethree-day ceremony, good spirits inthe spiritual world and their good an-cestors are able to come down to sup-port and protect the blessed familiescontinuously and even permanentlyas our True Father told us long agowhen he described spiritual assistancefor the hometown tribal messiah ac-tivities.

The good spirits and ancestors cancome down and chase away the sa-tanic control of evil spirits from thosefamilies and that hometown area.

They will secure and protect thosefamilies and bring the hometown areato the heavenly side. Thus, therestoration of people, territory, heav-enly sovereignty and Cheon Il Gukcan begin and expand from the home-town tribal messiah activities and canbe completed through the completionof the blessed families’ heavenly tribalmessiah mission.

Changing lineageTherefore, I am convinced that thesubstantial change of bloodline to theheavenly lineage through the comple-tion of three-day ceremony is the keyimportant process of completing thespiritual rebirth and physical rebirthamong all the newly blessed previ-ously married couples. This will setthe condition to cut them off from thesatanic bloodline and connect them tothe heavenly bloodline substantially. Then, they can be reborn as sons ordaughters of our Heavenly Parentand of our True Parents. Simultane-ously, they are thus reborn as Cheon IlGuk citizens like all of our traditionalblessed central families. They caneventually connect to and receiveheavenly fortune.

In this way, the seeds of Cheon IlGuk can spread out, be planted, settledown, take root, continue to grow andbear fruit in establishing the substan-tial Cheon Il Guk in our hometown, our nation and everywhere in theworld through the completion of ourblessed families’ heavenly tribal mes-

siah mission in this Cheon Il Guk era. With this positive and amazing

breakthrough, we encouraged allother blessed families to start theirtribal messiah activities in their home-towns. More than twenty blessedfamilies came to partake in this andwe could continuously expanded thetribal messiah Blessing Ceremonies tothirteen, which took place in a total oftwelve provinces, including Bangkok,by July 2014, twenty-one monthssince the beginning of tribal messiahactivities in November 2012. Based onthis foundation, we could see that thegate to the national expansion of tribalmessiah activities had opened to us inThailand.

Since, not all of the couples that re-ceived the blessing were able to fol-low and complete the three-dayceremony. Therefore, we had to in-crease the number of the blessed cou-ples, in order to complete the goal of430 couples that had been able tocomplete the three-day ceremony. Wehad to increase the number of theblessed couples to 1,318 couples byholding two more Blessing Cere-monies of six hundred couples and ahundred couples in Buriram, Thai-land on May 4, and in Bangkok onSeptember 14, 2014.

Ultimate victory Finally, for these 1,318 couples, wewere able to do follow up education. We finally reached 454 couples in Oc-tober 2014, with 162 fulltime studenttribal members.

On September 8, in order to ex-pand this tribal messiah providence tothe national level, we also launchedthe UPF-FFWPU Family Seminar Na-tional Peace Tour through seventy-seven provinces. We were able to gainthe cooperation and support of theprovincial governments for this fam-ily campaign. The provincial gover-nors agreed to provide theirgovernment meeting halls for theseminar and to invite all their govern-ment officers, community leaders,NGO leaders and others to attend theseminars. The respective governoralso gave the opening speech at eachvenue for the seminar. In this seminar,we gave the core content of DivinePrinciple and True Parents’ teachingson absolute sexual ethics. We also ex-plained the upcoming occasions on

which we would hold an InterfaithPeace Blessing to strengthen the fami-lies as the foundation to bring unity, peace and happiness to the commu-nity and the nation.

Through this peace tour, we wereable to expand the FFWPU BlessedFamily Network and start the TrueFamily Movement for National Unityand Peace. So far, we have receivednumerous affirmative responses andsupport from many provincial gover-nors through this peace tour. Someprovinces have already signed Memo-randa of Understanding with ourUPF-FFWPU organizations to educateand conduct activities in communitiesin their provinces, with budgetarysupport from the province itself. Wehave already completed almost half ofthe 77 provinces. We had planned tocomplete all the provinces by nextFoundation Day to open up the wayfor all of our blessed families to dotribal messiah activities anywhere inthe nation with the cooperation andsupport of the government and com-munity leaders. In this way, we areconfident we will bring about the set-tlement of tribal the messiah missionon the national level.

Nations will transformWe are so much encouraged by theword, given through our True Father, telling us that when twelve tribal mes-siahs unite and fulfill their missions, restoration of the entire nation canoccur, in any nation, even in nationswith a sizable population.

With the students and other youngpeople, we want to launch a move-ment of pure love, filial piety and pa-triotic spirit among the youth toencourage them to love and servetheir families, hometowns, and the na-tion. With the True Family Movement,we want to launch a new model fam-ily movement and new model villagemovement throughout the nation.Through this vision and plan, we aredetermined to multiply tribal messi-ahs at an increasing rate and to marchforward toward the realization of Vi-sion 2020 behind our beloved TrueMother, so that we can return greaterjoy, glory and liberation to our Heav-enly Parent and our True Parents.

Rid-ding oneself of these flaws contributes toreviving the original standard of valuesnecessary to realize man’s three lifegoals—maturing one’s character, build-ing a family as the cornerstone of peaceand caring for the environment all ofwhich is tied to the philosophy of livingfor others’ sake.

Upon receiving the approval of Presi-dent Yong of the Asia Region in August2014, we immediately set our goal to holdthe first Asian Martial Arts Peace Cup onNovember 28–30 in the Philippines. Hispermission was crucial as he is also thechairman of both the Martial Arts Federa-tion for World Peace (MAFWP) and theWorld Tong-Il Moo-Do Federation(WTMF) in Asia.

Our goals for the Peace Cup were toteach the martial arts community in Asiaas a step toward our goal of entering themainstream on the tribal, national and re-gional levels. Our second goal is specific:We wish to forge a path—with the collab-oration of MAFWP—over which Tong-IlMoo-Do becomes part of the 2018 AsianGames. Our third Peace Cup-related goalis to strengthen relationships and expandTong-Il Moo-Do’s foundation into na-

losophy locally or internationally. I have personally observed and ex-

perienced that Tong-Il Moo-Do is dif-ferent from all other styles of martialarts that exist today. It could be saidthat Tong-Il Moo-Do is a form ofmixed martial arts in its style and tech-niques; while philosophically, it isaligned to True Parents’ principle ofliving for others. All Tong-Il Moo-Doforms express the universal principleof achieving the three life goals. Inother words, Tong-Il Moo-Do’s philos-ophy connects closely to True Parents’philosophical thought through theTong-Il Moo-Do forms. In fact, allTong-Il Moo-Do students learned theDivine Principle through the Tong-IlMoo-Do forms. For instance, one Iran-ian martial arts champion encounteredTong-Il Moo-Do and its philosophythrough our web site. He sent e-mailand wished to visit a Tong-Il Moo-Dodojang anywhere in the world. He ex-pressed a desire to become an officialmember because he testified thatTong-Il Moo-Do philosophy is veryclose to his Iranian faith, culture andtradition. Dr. Seuk Joon-ho recom-mended that he visit the Philippines tomeet us and learn Tong-Il Moo-Do. In-deed, he, his wife and an interpretercame three years ago. He appeared de-lighted and inspired to meet us and tosee the Tong-Il Moo-Do foundation in

the Philippines through thesupport of the InternationalPeace Leadership College(IPLC). Upon his return toIran, he studied Tong-IlMoo-Do philosophy andpracticed its stylesthrough videos down-loaded from our website. In turn, he taughtthese to all his martialarts students, friendsand associates in the

Iranian martial arts com-munity. He continuously

communicated with us foralmost two years after heand his wife had stayed inthe Philippines. At onepoint, he invited Tong-IlMoo-Do leaders to visitTehran, Iran. Dr. SeukJoon-ho, MasterHoshiko Takamitsu,Master Panfilo Lu-mibao and I went to

Tehran, where he, his students and hisfriends— also martial arts practition-ers—and some government sportsrepresentatives warmly welcomed us.This visit was the crown on his hardwork in establishing Tong-Il Moo-Doin Iran, which had begun with his vis-iting our web site.

The Asian Martial Arts Peace Cup2014, the first of its kind, concluded itsactivities on November 30. It hadbegun two days earlier at the UPFPeace Embassy in Quezon City,Philippines. Competitors from eightnations participated; namely,Afghanistan, Albania, Cambodia,Iran, Japan, Korea, Thailand and thePhilippines, eighty-two entrants in all.Forty-eight of them competed in themartial arts ballet tournament, theteam and individual form competi-tion and the sparring competition. The first day was spent introducingthe Tong-il Moo Do philosophy toeveryone. The second day we ex-plained the tournament rules and reg-ulations, including a specialtournament meeting on how theWorld Tong-Il Moo-Do Federation(WTMF) can introduce its style to theOlympics. The third day was for thetournament proper.

During the tournament meeting,we received significant input andgood suggestions, particularly fromthe delegation from Iran, headed byMaster Mohammad Omid Sajedi, arepresentative of the Martial Arts Fed-eration of the Iranian government; Mr.Majid Salari, president of Tong-IlMoo-Do Iran and Middle East; andhis vice-president Master Reza. Theyhad much advice on how to developTong-Il Moo-Do tournaments forthem to be acceptable to the WorldOlympics. Grandmaster MoonPyung-rae, president of the MartialArts Federation for World Peace Inter-national, Master Takamitsu Hoshikoand I led the meeting. Martial arts in-structors from the participating coun-tries and other martial arts traditionsalso joined the meeting. The mainpoints discussed and voted on by themembers present were the establish-ment of a clear organizational chartfor the World Tong-Il Moo-Do Federa-tion Asia and establishing two newcommittees, one on coaching and oneon referees. Both Master Salari andMaster Pourkianias pointed out that

these are very important factors inTong-Il Moo-Do developing its tour-nament athletes and programs. Theyalso suggested having a sports calen-dar so that everyone can prepare inadvance for activities like the PeaceCup and World Cup. During themeeting, someone from the IranianEmbassy visited and gave a shortmessage to all the participants. He re-turned on the third day to watch thetournament and stayed until the din-ner banquet to give his support.

The tournament was very exciting, having different countries competewith one another in the spirit ofsportsmanship and camaraderie. Thewinners for the ballet competitionwere Tong-Il Moo-Do Philippines ofthe International Peace LeadershipCollege, practitioners of the samestyle from Thailand won secondplace. In the team form competition, both the men’s and women’s divi-sions, the same groups won first andsecond place.

After the tournament, everybodygot together for the banquet to cele-brate the spirit of S.P.O.R.T.S. reflectedduring the event, which is S-strengthwith wisdom, P-patience with in-domitable spirit, O-opportunity tomake friends, R-respect for each other,T-teamwork to learn from each other,S-success to everyone.

Essentially, the first Asian MartialArts Peace Cup 2014, which was heldin the Philippines, can now roar overthe horizon to help members fulfillgoals and objectives. It has forged apath that True Father, the founder ofthe Martial Arts Federation for WorldPeace; and Dr. Seuk Joon-ho, initiatorof World Tong-Il Moo-Do Federation;envisioned, that martial arts mustraise and educate young people of theworld through the philosophy of “liv-ing for the sake of others” with disci-plined and indomitable spirit.

Along this line of focus, martial artsstudents were taught the importanceof loyalty and filial piety within theframework of true love, true life andtrue linage bound together under theuniversal principles of living for thesake establishing peace in the family, tribe, nation and world.

On November 29, we held asymposium under themotto, “Martial Arts as aTool for Addictions Preven-

tion,” during a Pan-American TongilMoo Do Tournament in Paraguay. The main purpose of organizing thisPan-American tournament was toaim for integration of martial artstyles practiced internationally. Thesecondary purpose was to address thedrug addiction problem. Throughmartial arts and education, we aim tolower the rates of violence driven bydrug addiction. The tournament leftus with an encouraging picture for thefuture of teaching Tongil Moo Do in

Paraguay, in Latin America and in theCaribbean region.

An interviewer with the centralnews program, Noticias Paraguay[Paraguayan News], broadcast overthe station, Paraguay TV, interviewedMaestro Gustavo Giuliano after theevent. Maestro Giuliano said, “If wedivide into percentages what com-prises self-defense teachings, 95 per-cent teaches core values. Only 5percent teaches fighting techniques.Because of this aspect, martial artshelps to bring down violence and ag-gression rates.”

He later spoke about the “do” insome martial arts styles such as TongilMoo Do and Tae Kwon Do. Martialarts is a “path,” or a “do” that must beconsidered in two ways: The internal“do” and the external “do.” The inter-nal path is to learn and apply the val-ues of respect, perseverance andemotional self-control, for the betterperformance of our lives, either insideor outside the place of practice (thedojang). The external “do” is thetraining that disciplines us to be phys-ically able to resolve life-or-death situ-

ations, or to defend the weakest peo-ple. This leads you to be self-disci-plined in all the areas of life.”

Maestro Giuliano continued,“When a snake injects poison into avictim’s body it may cause death. However, the same poison can be ex-tracted from the snake and used usantidote to save lives. The same is truewith martial arts. You have watchedbad people in movies using martialarts to commit crimes; they employviolence that can even cause death.Yet, in the same martial arts, we findthe antidote. If we look at the trueteaching of martial arts like TongilMoo Do, since they are based on ethi-cal, moral and spiritual principles, they are actually helping young peo-ple in every way.”

Mr. Facundo Villagra, president ofthe Association for Research and Pre-vention of Addiction, told the com-petitors at the symposium, “We mustnot focus now on what substances, when ingested, deteriorate the life ofthe human being. On the contrary, wemust emphasize prevention and thattask starts at home; we must teach the

importance of parents being involvedin their children’s lives—to knowwhere their children frequently goand with whom their child frequentlyrelate. Above all the other responsibil-ities that parents have, when parentsare at home, they need to listen totheir children. That is vital in loweringrates of addiction.

Mr. Bruno Zanotti, director of Insti-tutional Relations under the Ministryof Sports, conveyed greetings fromthe Minister of Sports Mr. Victor Pecci.Mr. Zanotti added, “The minister’srole is to support all sporting endeav-ors. In such an international context, with the attendance of competitorsfrom several countries, the ministerexpected them to seek unity and har-mony above all, for the sake of ameaningful tournament.”

Tong il Moo do has been developingthis program for over a year with herson Carlos Nuñez Jr. who is a first danin that style, under Maestro GustavoGiuliano’s supervision. She also said,“We are working hard to train chil-dren from low-income homes; Maes-tro Giuliano is conducting the sameservice activity in the Alto Paraguayarea, where he teaches members ofnative Indian communities.”

Maestro Eduardo Watts, represent-ing a delegation from Panama, said,“Our school, Hisao Lee, has workedand continues working to rescueyoung people involved in social vice, such as crime, drugs, family abandon-

ment, etc. in order to reintegrate theminto society, where they can becomeexcellent citizens, leaders and parents. This great work is still led by GrandMaestro Fabio Perez.”

The representative of one of thedelegations from Brazil, a KarateMaestro, Wallison Delano, said, “Weare giving talks in schools using sys-tematic material to shape young peo-ple’s character and to encourage themto practice martial arts.”

Maestra Diosdada Ladica do San-tos, president of the Tong-il Moo-doAmapa Association and directorthroughout Brazil in this style, said,“We are all responsible for loweringrates of addiction. I have nine childrenand wish the best for all children; thesame feeling is shared by any womanwith whom I come into contact.”What the opinions had in commonwas recognition of values as the con-necting element for all the work in thefield of martial arts.

Delegations from Panamá (MaestroFabio Perez’s Hisao Lee School),Brazil (the Semi-Contact KarateSchool of Maestro Wallison Delanofrom Goias State and the AsociacionAmapaense de Tongil Moo Do Schoolof Maestra Diosdada dos Santos fromAmapa), Argentina and Paraguayparticipated. The president of ASIPA(Association for Research and Preven-tion of Addictions, an addiction pre-vention NGO) gave an animatedspeech, drawing in the audiencemembers to participate, about thetheme, addictions and sports.

Authorities of the national SportsSecretary, FFWPU president AristidesRondán and vice-president of theLeda Project and important martialarts masters and professors partici-pated.

Our sixth Home Group Na-tional Event was hold onSeptember 7 in Brazil’s na-tional headquarters’ main

hall and simultaneously in twenty-four states. The total number of partic-ipants was 4,052. Among thesepeople, 1,331 (32.8%) were guestsfrom home groups, one-to-one DivinePrinciple study and oikos. [Oikos isGreek word and refers to makingfriends and only gradually introduc-ing them to your religion when theyare ready]. All the members in Brazilhad a great union of heart over thisvictorious event. All over the country, the members and guests were veryexcited and full of energy to keep upwith the home group activities look-ing for the national explosion towardVision 2020’s victory and to gladdenGod’s heart and True Parents’ hearts.

At event in the Brazil’s headquar-ters, we had inspiring moments, suchas the message delivered by the Rev.Shin Dong-mo, the president of the

South American region. Rev. Shin isconcurrently Brazil’s Cheon Il Gukspecial envoy. Rev. Shin expressed hisgreat love for the nation of Brazil byspeaking in Portuguese. Another high-light was the speech given by Rev.Sasaki, the president of FFWPU-Brazil.He showed a slide show of photo-graphs that demonstrated how excit-ing Brazil’s home groups are. Onehome group leader that is experienc-ing great success in his outreach workand achieving weekly goals spoke tomembers throughout Brazil about thisactivity has brought profound im-provements in her family situation.

Seeking spiritual fortuneThrough the state and nationalawards for the people and missionsthat are bringing prodigious results, rather than only acknowledging themembers’ efforts, we tried to empha-size the importance of seeking to con-nect with heavenly fortune and obtaingreat results by doing what God wills.

Home groups and unityThe entry of the home group flagswas a genuinely exciting moment. Allthe home group leaders came onstagewith their flags designed to representthe essence of their views of homegroup, faith and outreach. Together,we sang the Korean song “SarangHae.” At that moment, we experi-enced a very special spiritual atmos-phere. We saw clearly that throughthe home group providence thechurch environment is changing andthe unity of heart among the mem-bers is strengthening.

Coming closer to MotherWe also took the opportunity at theevent to reward those dedicated peo-ple all around Brazil with a “holy ob-ject” (an article of True Mother’sclothing) and recited a Resolution ofBlessed Families.

Another very special point of theevent was the musical performances, which had a high spiritual essence

and exhibited practical talent andskill; these appear to fill the heartsof all those that experiences theperformances with joy.

An especially deep impressionwas made by the presentation ofthe youth, CARP-Brazil. Throughtheir presentation, hearts weregladdened. They showed thestrength of the young people withtheir tremendous energy and firminternal foundation. Many parentsthat were in the audience criedwhen seeing their children, sec-ond-generation Unificationistsamong many other young peoplefull of talent and energy dedicat-ing themselves to God with a puremotivation.

At our national communicationtime, via Skype, between SãoPaulo and the other states, wecould see that our home groupwork is growing in each locationin Brazil and increasing members’hope as it develops. The leaders inBrazi’s states felt that this nationalcommunication time and gener-ally increased communicationwith the national headquarters is agood way to attract the heavenlyfortune for the development oftheir activities.

Loving guestsAs an expression of deep love forour guests, around 1,300 all

around Brazil, we held a drawingfor prizes, including such gifts asnotebook computers, LCD televi-sions, tablet (computers), mi-crowave ovens and bicycles. Ourintention was to help guests feelGod’s love through this event andthat this would increase theircommitment to firmly engagingwith their home group, one-to-one Divine Principle study oroikos activities in their areas. Insome states, such as Rio de Janeiroand Goiás, for example, the num-ber of guests is larger than thenumber of members, reaching 60percent of those attending theevent. Surely, it was very excitingto see so many guests that camethrough home groups, one-to-oneDivine Principle study or oikosactivities. After the event, throughhome groups throughout Brazil,we can easily continue taking careand loving the life of each one ofthem. They will join a homegroup, do one-to-one Divine Prin-ciple study and attend work-shops, eventually accept TrueParents, the Divine Principle andbecome a church member. At theend of this process, they will con-tinue preparing to receive theblessing, go through the BlessingCeremony, become blessed familymembers and heavenly tribalmessiahs.

Testimony from BrumadoThrough the home group activities and thisevent, members are very excited and feelhope about the possibility for a national ex-plosion in witnessing results. As an example,we have the municipality of Brumado. Thepastor there, Oldair Almeida, said, “Homegroup activity have become a part of ourlives. The members are full of joy and saying,“My home group is my life and I love thehome groups.” Since initiating home groupoutreach, the church environment haschanged. There is not enough space in ourchurch for the home group event. Next time,we will have to search for bigger place.”

Testimony from Rio de JaneiroWe have here the testimony of the Rio deJaneiro pastor, Rev. Roberto, who won firstplace in our national award for victorioushome groups activities.

“September 7 was a fantastic day! Webegan the event connected with the nationalheadquarters following the national sched-ule. It was so exciting to see Rev. Shin againmaking an effort to give his speech in Por-tuguese, speaking words to motivate us inthe heavenly messiah tribal providence inBrazil. Many guests were touched by eachhome group’s musical performance. The ma-jority of them said that the best, most mem-orable part was the testimonies. I see thatwe are really progressing in each event. I no-ticed the great improvement and growth ofthe home group leaders. Each group waswell trained. Many leaders had been shy, butnow they showed so many skills andcharisma when it comes to guiding theirguests. Everyone was highly motivated andexcited. In fact, I am amazed about what ishappening in the home group providence. This kind of event is fantastic, the amount ofenergy that flows is huge! This gives us morecourage and inspiration to keep going andgrowing. Especially, I appreciated theBlessed Families Resolution, established infront of God and True Parents.”

Full of gratitude, we offer this sixth HomeGroup National Event to God and True Par-ents. We are very thankful for their love andsincerity for this nation, Brazil. We feel thatwe are improving and growing day by dayand increasing our foundation and ourhopes for a national witnessing explosion, victory in our heavenly messiah tribal mis-sion and success in Vision 2020.

On December 4, True Parentsdesignated Austria a “provi-dential nation.” Providentialnations are selected from

among advanced nations and nationsthat have played a significant role inTrue Parents’ providence. Our Aus-trian members have testified that thisdesignation is humbling and they arenow reflecting on how they can meetthe great expectations that our Heav-enly Parent and True Parents have forprovidential nations. They feel theyhave the heart and the determinationto work toward Vision 2020 and toprepare a conducive environment intheir nation to declare God’s word. Here is some background to the his-tory and present day situation of theAustrian church, which is looking tothe future with hope.

A global outlookRev. Paul Werner came to Austria tostart his mission as the first pioneer ofthe Unification Church on May 18,1965. Already in 1969, there were fiftymembers in the country. In March1969, Father switched the nationalleaders of Austria and Germany; thissent Rev. Werner to Germany andbrought Rev. Peter Koch, who wouldbe instrumental in pioneering Eastern

Europe, to Austria.

European outreach Within three years of founding of thechurch here, Austria became an “ex-port nation.” In 1968, Austrian mis-sionaries went to Switzerland, and toCzechoslovakia, which was a nationat that time. The following year, Aus-trian members began outreach workin Turkey, Belgium, Denmark andLuxemburg.

During the 1970s, the movementwent through severe persecutionspearheaded by the establishedchurches, the government and themedia. This led to dissolution (officialbanning) of the Unification Church in1974. Ours became an undergroundchurch. This however did not deterRev. Koch and other members fromwitnessing throughout the country. They established numerous pioneercenters, and organized Divine Princi-ple workshops. Many people joinedthroughout the 1970s. We have athriving church of several hundredmembers despite Austria having apopulation of less than 9 million.

Mission ButterflyAt the beginning of the 1980s, Rev.Koch felt inspired by God to send

missionaries to the communist coun-tries of the Soviet Empire. That is, toseek to save those trapped behind the“Iron Curtain.” (“Iron curtain” is aterm long used to refer to any impen-etrable barrier. Winston Churchill—two-time prime minister of the UnitedKingdom—used it in 1946 to describecountries under communist controlthat had suddenly closed their bor-ders and cut off relations with the restof the world soon after World War II.)

Rev. Koch secretly selected morethan twenty of the most brilliantyoung members and prepared themfor Mission Butterfly, which was thecode word used for this undergroundmissionary project. First, the mission-aries had to “leave” the UnificationChurch. In the manner of spies, theyhad to take on the false identity of ex-members while still in Austria. Mr.Gunther Wurzer, a missionary to theSoviet Union called this “a lonely andpainful period.” In his words, takingon the persona of someone disillu-sioned with our church “caused im-mense distress to my immediatefamily and to many others. My sister,Inge, was shocked that I had appar-ently left the church and my youngerbrother, who had recently joined wasconfused and did not know what to

believe.” Having seemingly left theirreligious lives behind them, theycrossed—at the risk of their lives—the“Iron Certain” to their mission coun-tries, Russia, Poland, Romania, EastGermany, Yugoslavia, Hungary,Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria.

Post-Soviet activities Following the collapse of the SovietUnion, True Parents met Soviet Presi-dent Gorbachev in Moscow in April1990. Father strongly requested theimmediate implementation of reli-gious freedom from the Russian presi-dent. Right after the Moscowconference, True Parents came to Ger-many to a large meeting of Europeanmembers including the former under-ground missionaries. Father launcheda grand mobilization of hundreds ofmembers from Western Europe tosupport our missionaries in EasternEurope. Thousands of young mem-bers, fruits of the incredible pioneer-ing work of our missionaries in thecommunist countries, awaited them.

Active and interactiveAustria’s capital, Vienna, is home ofone of the largest, most inspired andfastest-growing FFWPU communitiesin Europe. Each of six communities inthe nation is making great effort to ac-complish the tribal messiah mission inthe context of Vision 2020.

Good unity exists between first-and second-generation members inAustria. An Austrian man in our sec-ond generation is leading EuropeanYouth UPF (besides being one of thetop students at Vienna University). Asecond-generation woman is leadingYouth WFWP in Vienna. Older sec-ond-generation members work asyouth leaders and have dedicatedthemselves to preparing youngermembers as future leaders.

The Faculty of Comparative Reli-gious Studies at Vienna University isengaged in a scientific research projecton the history of the Austrian Unifica-tion Movement (1965–2014). Alreadythey have published some articles intheir scientific book Religions in Aus-tria (English). The university is collect-ing conversion narratives of ourmembers, here. So far, they haveamassed more than seventy. They willeventually summarize these in a sci-entific journal.

On May 26, this year, Vienna Uni-versity invited Mr. Peter Zoehrer, theAustrian national leader (and Cain-nation national messiah) to give a lec-ture on the topic “The UnificationMovement—A Profile.” The hall waspacked and the professors as well asthe students appeared to like the pres-entation. The university invited himto return in the coming year.

Some points of noteThe Vienna-based NGO Forum forReligious Freedom Europe (FOREFEurope) took the fight for religiousfreedom in Japan to the United Na-tions Human Rights Council. Re-cently a significant victory occurredin the Tokyo High Court. For the firsttime Mr. Toru Goto, who sufferedkidnapping followed by twelveyears’ confinement, won a landmarkvictory against those that had perpe-trated these acts against him. (Theyhave to pay millions of yen in com-pensation.) This is truly a turningpoint.

The app production team, GoldenGarden Productions, founded by afew engaged blessed children fromAustria, developed an app for smart-phones and iPhones that featuresmore than four hundred quotationsfrom True Father’s speeches. SunMyung Moon Quotes can be down-loaded free of charge from GooglePlay or Apple iTunes. The themescovered are God, Faith in Practice,Prayer, Life, True Love, Marriage,Family, Happiness, Success, Leader-ship and Motivation. The selectedquotations convey simple and univer-sal wisdom. Without prior knowledgeof the Divine Principle or our theol-ogy, they are readily understandable. The app thus serves as a smooth in-troduction to True Parents’ values andideals and provides inspiration. In na-tions on all continents, people havedownloaded the app since its Decem-ber 2012 release. In this way, GoldenGarden Productions is contributing tothe dissemination of God’s wordthroughout the world.

Providential organizations Vienna is a hub of various interna-tional organizations, including theUnited Nations and the Organizationfor Security and Co-operation in Eu-rope (OSCE).

Two providential organizations(UPF and WFWP) work permanentlyat the Vienna International Center, which is one of four UN officesaround the globe (New York, UnitedStates; Geneva, Switzerland; Vienna,Austria; Nairobi, Kenya).

Given their consultative status,WFWP staff members have authoriza-tion to enter the UN as they wish. They have been working at the UNVienna for ten years. Hence, theyhave established an impressive net-work at the UN among various NGOsand other types of international or-ganizations. The women working atWFWP Austria are very persistentand extremely dedicated in their workfor reconciliation and world peace.

UPF Austria has also been active atthe UN locally since its founding. Fortwenty-five years, Mr. Peter Haider,Austria’s UPF president, has beenbuilding a foundation in interreligiousand intercultural relations. UPFSwitzerland, UPF UK and UPF Aus-tria have worked together throughoutthe last seven years or more to holdeffective International LeadershipConferences (ILC) and EuropeanLeadership Conferences (ELC).

Following True Fathers instructionthat UPF Europe should open theway to Russia (and even to China)one of the most outstanding ILC con-ferences was held at the UN Viennaon October 12, 2012. Europe and Rus-sia—Partners in a Globalized World, was the conference title. It attractedhigh-level speakers from Russia andEurope for discussions of complex is-sues effecting the Russia – Europepartnership. Those discussions contin-ued in conferences in Paris and quiterecently in Moldova.

Doors open to the futureForty years after Interior Ministry offi-cially dissolved the Austrian Unifica-tion Church, we submitted an officialapplication for state recognition as aRegistered Confessional Community. In 2015, we will celebrate our fiftiethanniversary with this new status as aprovidential nation. We expect also tobe an official Confessional Commu-nity recognized by the Federal Repub-lic of Austria.

How did you become interested in pol-itics?

A s a boy, I was always verymuch interested in historyand influenced by WorldWar II, which finished when

I was fourteen years old. My parentsliked to travel abroad, and I felt at-tracted to foreign countries. At a laterage, I had the desire to work as adiplomat and see something of theworld. I studied law and during thattime, I also went to the Princeton Uni-versity [in the United States]. There Imet German and Japanese studentsand realized that they were peoplelike me.

My parents lost a close friend in thewar and hated the Germans. They didnot want to buy a German car or go toGermany anymore. My experiencewith students from the former enemynations opened my eyes toward theworld and helped me overcome thehostile feelings after the war. Thanksto the European integration and thegood behavior of Germany after thewar, hostility against Germany dimin-ished quickly.

After I had been a diplomat inIndia, London, Ghana and withNATO, I was asked to become a can-didate for the elections of the DutchParliament. I was elected and soon

after appointed in government posi-tions. Next I became secretary-generalof the West European Union (WEU), amilitary organization for West Euro-pean cooperation. My career mainlyhas focused on Europe or Europeansecurity.

The Berlin Wall fell and the discus-sion about European securitychanged. How were we to deal with aunified Germany and the former War-saw Pact countries? The WEU had astabilizing role, as an organization, be-tween the European Union (EU) andNATO in this process of change, which led to expansion of the EU.Quickly I could organize for represen-tatives of East European countries tobe present at our WEU meetings. They could be informed about theopinions of the member states andgive their reactions. In this way Icould organize an informal solutionfor interaction. In the process, they be-came members of the EU and NATO.In my career I learned that participa-tion is often more important than for-mal membership. This worked well.

How did you come into contact withUPF?In 2006, I was invited to speak at aUPF conference in The Hague aboutthe future of Europe. I was given thecertificate as an ambassador for peace.Since that time, I have visited quite anumber of conferences in the Nether-

A Stellar Contributor to theWork for Peace

An interview of Willem van Eekelen

Dr. Eekelen was born in Utrecht, the Netherlands, in 1931. He has had a long and diverse career in government and public service. Whatfollows are mere highlights: He worked in his nation’s Foreign Ministry (1957–1977). In that capacity, he took charge of coordinating Eu-ropean political cooperation and was director of Atlantic cooperation and security affairs. He was part of the Dutch delegation to NATO.He has been a member of both houses of the Staten Generaal (the Dutch legislature). He was secretary-general (1989–2004) of the West-ern European Union (dissolved in 2011), which grew out of a treaty for collective self-defense, social and economic collaboration betweenten member states. At some point, he worked with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies as head of thePolicy and Research Unit for Islamic Relief Worldwide. Perhaps this explains to some degree his interest in the European movement’sMiddle East Peace Initiatives. From 2005, he has been involved in various Universal Peace Federation conferences.

lands, like the European LeadershipConferences (ELC) in Glory Houseand other interesting meetingsabroad. Especially the Middle EastPeace Initiative (MEPI) was very in-spiring. I have always been interestedin the situation in the Middle East. The meetings in Israel and Palestine Iconsidered very successful and bal-anced. The MEPI participants metrepresentatives of Israel and Palestinefrom various backgrounds. In this in-formal setting, both sides could ex-press themselves freely. I also visitedother conferences. As I have experi-enced in my work as a diplomat, thatpeople understand each other is veryimportant. We have to know whypeople act as they do. If you under-stand the other side, there is a chanceto come to consultation and a com-promise. That is, I think, also the mes-sage of UPF: try to understand whythere is a problem and next try to finda solution. We have done this in dif-ferent ways. I have experienced theUPF conferences as very positive. Par-ticipants were always ready to listento each other and the speakers werewell worth listening to. They gaveyou a deeper insight and more bal-ance in the formation of yourthoughts.

What do you think of the interreli-gious dimension of UPF?I myself am not very religious, but Ican endorse the message of UPF. Inmy speeches, also recently in Japan, Ioften refer to the ceremony when rep-resentatives of different religionscame to the stage with a bottle ofwater in their hands in order to pourout the water in a large bowl, repre-senting the unifying elements of thereligions. Maybe this is not really ex-pressing complete unity, but it showsrespect for each other. Respect foreach other and the readiness to worktogether is most important. Oftenfreedom is seen as very important, but there is no freedom without re-sponsibility. Either there is no democ-racy without respect, especially forthe minorities. These are fundamentalprinciples. This may not be very reli-gious but it corresponds to the GoldenRule: one should treat others as onewould like others to treat oneself. Iconsider this a very important point.

The founder of UPF, Father Moon,

is an advocate of an interreligiouscouncil at the UN. I read his autobiog-raphy. The history of his life is veryimpressive, especially his persever-ance. His idea about adding a Councilof Religious leaders to the UN soundsgood, but in general religious leaderslike to promote their own religion. Iknow that this does not apply to Rev-erend Moon. If the religious leaderswould like to contribute from theirbackground to the higher goal ofworld peace as Reverend Moon does, such a council might be valuable.

In 2010, at an ELC in San Marino, you participated in the

Interreligious Blessing Ceremony. Howdid you experience this? The experience brought deep emo-tions, where you look back on yourlife, which in the case of my wife andme, is in general a life of happiness. There was one downside: We lost ourson at a rather young age. Also in pol-itics, I had some setbacks, but that isnormal. My life has been full of vari-ety and this is still like that. I considerit all together a blessing.

Recently you were invited to Japan fora speaking tour. That was great! I was very well re-ceived and spoke for big audiences ofimportant people about issues of in-ternational cooperation, peace and se-curity. Before coming to Japan, I hadbeen in Hong Kong and Taiwan forother meetings with high level offi-cials. That was interesting as therewere tensions in Hong-Kong and be-tween China and other Asian coun-tries like the Philippines, Vietnam,Japan and Korea. China claims moreand more territory, islands and areasin the sea. Also there was the APECconference in Beijing and accusationsfrom the UN about the situation ofhuman rights in North Korea. Asiawas in the news.

At the time that I went to Japan,my wife, who had been in a Japaneseprison camp in Indonesia at the timeof the war, also came to Japan for areconciliation mission between Dutchand Japanese citizens. Mentioning thiswas a very good entry in my speechesin Japan. We appreciate reconciliationattempts very much. This corre-sponds to the manner in which theEuropean integration took place. How

Germany has dealt with its past, is avery good example. Germany doesnot want to be a dominating poweranymore, certainly not by militarymeans, but wants to be a EuropeanGermany.

After World War II, the EuropeanCommunity for Coal and Steel(ECSC) started. The idea was to shareresources instead of these being con-trolled by one dominating power. Eu-ropean countries were not anymorethe base of national expansion. Ger-many developed well into a demo-cratic country. In Japan, I mentionedhow European integration could be amodel for nations in Asia to cooper-ate.

Do you have recommendations forUPF?It is important for UPF to focus onyoung people. One of the great suc-cesses in Europe for the process of in-tegration has been exchangeprograms between the young peopleof France and Germany. Furthermore,we have to find in the present con-flicts points for rapprochement andfrom there improve the situation.MEPI is a good example of attemptsto bring people in conflict together ina wider context of discussion and dia-logue. Now it is important to set updialogues between Europe and Russiaand exchange programs for youngpeople. Another point is to help conti-nents organize better around a set ofcommon principles. I was involved inthe process of preparing the HelsinkiFinal Act. Such an agreement on fun-damental principles is needed to cre-ate a peaceful world of nations.Unfortunately, many nations do notfollow these principles yet. For me theEuropean Union with all its difficul-ties and challenges still is a goodmodel how to develop cooperationbetween nations.

The church in the DemocraticRepublic of Congo (DRCongo), which will be fortyyears old next year, set a major

goal—to increase the number ofmembers through witnessing, and tostrive to achieve, if possible, theplateau of 10 percent of the nation’spopulation accepting True Parents. What makes this feasible—beyondthe ambition shown by the nationalstaff after the coming of the WestAfrican regional president, Rev. ChoDong-ho—is the devotion of mem-bers having resulted in the number ofmembers increasing significantly be-tween 2013 and today.

Two projects were initiated, one fo-cused on the spiritual aspect. It callsfor us to organize and hold UPF ral-

lies and lectures for ambassadors forpeace. Regarding the social aspect, thegovernment’s National Economy De-partment (DEN) has initiated farmingprojects, raising pigs on the outskirtsof Kinshasa, even if the efforts are stillfragile the potential for benefits isthere and we intend to participate.

A shift in society’s viewsSince the rallies started, people beganto view us differently. After the na-tional leader began having our activi-ties broadcast on television, reflectingTrue Parents’ accomplishments, pub-lic opinion toward the church startedto change. We had had a poor image, but today, apart from blessing activi-ties, people are looking with approvalon True Parents’ vision of an ideal

world. Local television channels evenbroadcast parts of our last rally, whichadded something. They do not showhighlights of only the rallies, but ofmany different Unification Church ac-tivities, such as UPF, WFWP, FFWPUand CARP activities.

In the past year, our church mem-bership in DR Congo increased by 38percent compared to 2013, thanks tothe education received by blessedmembers who established a homechurch structure as an internal foun-dation for the establishment of CheonIl Guk.

Boldly Moving toward Our Vision

Our church in the Democratic Republic of Congo works with the future in mind

ment ministers. No modern churchcan influence people here withoutthe use of television. The other diffi-culty comes from the size of ourmembership, which has reachedseven thousand individuals, amongmore than seventy million Con-golese.

We need to carry out certain proj-ects to be succeed in DR Congo. Thechurch proposes to create educationcenters for contacts from those in theupper levels of society, Divine Prin-ciple broadcasting and distributionof CDs of these teachings in order toprovide people living far away withthe opportunity to receive the samestandard of education. Regardingour members, DR Congo has a rep-utation for producing excellent lec-turers and our members tend to bevery good at witnessing. These areour strong points.

Moving toward Vision 2020Starting from 2015, the church in DRCongo wants to improve our strat-egy for conducting activities focusedon achieving the 2020 Vision. Manyreligious leaders on television todaymake disparaging comments aboutTrue Parents, but we lack the funds

to create a televised defense of TrueParents’ position. Our current focusis on gathering funds to strengthenour witnessing activities and mem-bers’ education. Funding is one areathat is pulling us down. Realistically, the church needs the necessary facil-ities to compete with other morefirmly established churches, most ofwhom own their own televisionchannels over which they broadcastmessages about our church that canbe offensive. Poverty is a problem ofour national environment, the ef-fects of which we cannot entirelyavoid, even in the way it limits ourindividual members.

Vision 2020 is seen by Congolesemembers as the grace to catch up forour lateness in completing our mis-sion as tribal messiahs. Yet, for mostof the people we questioned, theyassert that Vision 2020 allows themto create one global family underGod with recognition of True Par-ents as the Messiah. To center edu-cation on the principles and TrueParents’ teachings is also to offer anation to God.

Zacharie Mbumba’s TestimonyMr. Mbumba organized the rally underthe direction of Rev. Futilla.

I will describe our witnessing strategyfor the field. I mobilized all the leadersfrom the home groups and the leadersfrom the east for a technical meeting. Itlasted a week. We started with a twenty-one-minute prayer condition and a forty-bow condition. Then we decided the dateand the theme and we printed invita-tions. We started in the area surroundingthe hotel hosting the event. We wentdoor-to-door to explain the importanceof the lectures while giving these invita-tions. We gathered all the departmentsof our district and we contacted otherlocal churches. For the rally, the presenceof the traditional chiefs was of major im-portance because people still considerthem shaman or witchdoctors; curiously, they even accepted to follow the DivinePrinciple lectures at a much more ad-vanced level. People asked many ques-tions about the church, marriage, theMessiah and his teachings.

Last August, Rev. Kathy Rigney,True Parents’ special emissaryto Africa; and Dr. Cho Dong-hoand Rev. Camara Bakary, the

regional presidents of West Africa andEast Africa, respectively; joined otherleaders in attending the World Sum-mit, held in Seoul, South Korea. For aweek after the summit, they attendedthe FFWPU International Headquar-ters’ National Leaders World Assem-bly, which focused on strategies toaccomplish Vision 2020 and explainedthat our tribal messiah mission com-prises the core activities needed toachieve victory.

After attending the meeting inKorea, the special emissary and bothregional presidents met in CôteD`Ivoire and devised a course of ac-tion for tribal messiahs’ activities inAfrica. They made the decision tohold a three-day workshop for all na-tional leaders and core members invarious areas and to teach them howto engage in tribal messiah activitiesand how to fulfill vision 2020.

After his return to the East AfricaRegion, Rev. Bakary decided to have a

seven-day workshop instead of onelasting three days in order to havemore time to teach the leaders. Heheld the first workshop in SouthAfrica for eight national leaders, fol-lowed by another in Kenya for ten na-tional leaders, elder members andformer leaders. From what we haveheard, these seminars inspired andtouched the hearts of the participants.Centering on the special grace fromTrue Mother to all of us through thetheme “Forgive, Love and Unite,” theworkshop marked a fresh start for themembers. The material presentationsgiven in the workshop included, AnExplanation of Vision 2020, How toBecome Owners of Cheon Il Guk,Tribal Messiah Activities, and Practi-cal Organization of Tribal Messiah Ac-tivities.

At the end of the seminar, we di-vided all families into home groupteams of four families each. Beginningon October 20, all members started120 days of concentrating on tribalmessiah activities, with each familyfocusing on reaching out to 430 fami-lies and raising them to a level where

they would have the faith to gothrough the Blessing Ceremony andbe blessed by our True Parents.

The activities began with work-shops for those members that couldnot attend the initial workshops, sothat they too could understand thesignificance and intent of our Vision2020 efforts and take up their respon-sibility as tribal messiahs.

In Kenya, activities began withwriting introductory letters to thearea’s government officers to informthem of the families’ outreach activi-ties and to request that their familiesand the local government work aspartners. The responses were support-ive because the letters explained theneed to teach the community aboutpeace and harmony and to give TrueFamily Values seminars. The localgovernments provided letters of au-thorization to the teams.

The teams were asked to choose amethod of reaching out to familiesamong various strategies such asdoor-to-door visits, contacting fami-lies in community-based organiza-tions, churches, the workplace or

neighborhood associations called“Nyuma Kumi” (meaning ten-houseassociations) each under one coordi-nator.

The ten-house neighborhood asso-ciations were initiated by the Kenyangovernment last year in October tohelp the families meet their neighborsoften so as to create good relations, improve security, create a good envi-ronment and peaceful neighborhoods.

This kind of infrastructure is ideal forwitnessing in our tribal messiah work.In several areas, members are usingthis strategy—reaching out to theseNyuma Kumi, witnessing to theirmembers and teaching them as agroup. The members had many won-derful testimonies after meeting fami-lies belonging to these Nyuma Kumi. For example, a home church teamunder Mrs. Susan Kone has adoptedthe strategy of approaching theNyuma Kumi during their meetings. She uses a meeting as a forum to in-troduce the FFWPU Vision 2020 andto teach Core Family Values to thefamilies at the meeting. After meetingthe Nyuma Kumi members, they areinvited to visit the families where theygive lectures. This strategy is produc-ing amazing results and many fami-lies are so appreciative to ourmembers and always look forward totheir visits.

As a result of this activity, the teamworking in this area held a two-dayworkshop from November 28 to 29with sixty-two participants. Break-through International Church was the

workshop site. The bishop allowed usto use his church for the duration ofthe workshop and some partners inthe community donated food anddrinks. Other institutions are ready towork with them and willing to invitethem to teach local families. The teamis also involved in community devel-opment programs and social pro-grams; thus, they have become part ofthe community. The upcoming pro-gram in December will be a large end-of-the-year event on December 29,with all of the Nyuma Kumi coordi-nators, to whom we will give As aPeace-Loving Global Citizen.

Since the start of the 120-day condi-tion, more than 2,525 families have re-ceived introductory lectures in theEast African Region and 525 have at-tended a two-day workshop.

This is a deeply inspiring time andmarks a new beginning of revival andhope for all African members as westrive every day to be one in heartwith our True Mother through thetheme of Forgive, Love and Unite.

MBCNET, an online Koreanmedia outlet, made a thirty-minute documentary focused

on the legacy that True Parents left inAmerica, “ America on the Road toPeace,” which aired on October 25 andOctober 30 beginning at 10:00 AM and9:00 AM, respectively. The narrator in-troduced True Father by saying, “ABritish newspaper included him ontheir list of a thousand influential peo-ple of the twentieth century.” Then, the front cover of England’s SundayTimes magazine appeared along withthe words of Eileen Barker, professoremeritus, London School of Econom-ics (London University), who said,

“He was the most significant figureto emerge during the wave of new re-ligious movements that swept theWestern world during the 1960s and1970s.” This was followed by a CNNtelevision report, stating, “He was anevangelist who drew the attention ofthe world over several decades andcreated an enormous peace-orientedenterprise.”

The program, which started as de-scribed above, continued with a depic-tion of the people at his 2012 funeralservice lining up to pay their respectsto the deceased. Lech Wałęsa, a former

president of Poland, said, “I naturallyrespect Rev. Moon.” Mr. MakarimWibisono, a former chairman of theUnited Nations Economic and SocialCouncil (ECOSOC) said, “The activi-ties of Rev. Moon are very important. Why I consider them very impor-tant—because he started a change inthe United Nation.” The film then fea-tured Mr. Sanguinetti, a former presi-dent of Uruguay, saying, “He was sspiritual leader. As was the case withall spiritual leaders in history, he hadto strive throughout his life to over-come numerous obstacles.” A scene inwhich young people in America werewaving the American flag in front ofTrue Father as he delivered a messageto them appeared next.

The narration continued, “Rev. SunMyung Moon was the focus of thepeople’s attention. What is it that heleft behind on the American conti-nent?” The film began to introduceTrue Parents’ works in America, begin-ning from True Father’s tour of Amer-ica that began on February 15, 1965 atTwin Peaks in San Francisco. “A fewyears later, he embarked on a secondtour,” it continued, “this time a nation-wide speaking tour from 1972 to 1974,covering seventy cities. The tour culmi-

nated in downtown Manhattan, NewYork City….” The audience learnedthat people’s reaction to Father’sspeech at Madison Square Garden twoyears later was so enthusiastic that thetwenty thousand prepared seats wereall sold out and they had to add an ad-ditional five thousand to accommodatethe audience members.

Then during the yearlong two hun-dredth anniversary celebration ofAmerica’s independence, Fatherspoke again in New York in June 1976and at the Washington Monument, onSeptember 18, 1976 to more than300,000 people. Father emphasized thevalues of family and abstinence andcalled on Christianity to be reborn.

This speech tour finished withgreat successes but it also marked thebeginning of persecution by main-stream society in America. Congress-man Donald Fraser, who was thechairman of the House Subcommitteeon International Organizations, al-leged that Colonel Bo-hi Pak, Rev.Moon’s translator, who previouslyhad worked as a military attaché atthe Korean embassy, was acting as afront man for the Korean government.

Following this, the New York Dis-trict Attorney accused him of failingto report around $4,000, which hadaccrued as an interest on moneytransferred to an account in his name, which was used for church activities. They ultimately sent Father to prisonin Danbury, Connecticut, but he wasreceived with much love upon his re-lease from prison thirteen monthslater. This love was demonstrated bythe fact that many people, even Chris-tians, flocked to welcome him on hisrelease.

After his release, True Father wenton to expand his world peace move-ment to many fields other than reli-gion, including education and themedia with the opening of the Wash-ington Times, which became famousduring the Reagan administration as anewspaper even president read. Even

today, the Washington Times ranks asthe third most influential media outletin the US Congress. In left-leaningAmerican society, the WashingtonTimes represented a conservativevoice and worked to preserve a bal-anced view between right and left inthe nation. True Father also bought aCatholic theological seminary on sixtyacres of land located near the HudsonRiver in Barrytown, New York. Here,he established Unification TheologicalSeminary and invited manyrenowned professors to give the stu-dents an interreligious education.Sometime later, the Professors WorldPeace Academy, which Rev.
