The Site for this building is just outside of the University of Colorado at Boulder Campus on 30th Street. The site had many aspects to consider: traffic, site offsets and boundaries, zoning codes, and connections to the high traffic flow of 30th street. My parti for the design is derived from an “L” shape, this shape is chosen because of its ability to respond to sunlight. The L shape building’s glass faces South East Allowing the pleasant eastern light in the morning through after noon and minimizing the effects of the harsh summer sun in the mid afternoon. The L shape also acts as a “Power Wall” on the western side of the building. This “Power Wall” houses all plumbing and major utilities as well as incorporates both seating and storage into itself. Because of the wall’s thickness it also supplies insulation from the western sun in the summer and winds in the winter. There are two individual buildings on the site, each building holds two units. One large unit and one small unit, both with two bedrooms. Young Professional Housing

Studio 4Spring 2008

The project for studio 4 is the Young Professional Housing design.
