Masters in Leadership and Organisational Analysis

Enabling Organisations to Bring About What They Were Created For Is Your Organisation Inhibited by ‘Wicked’ and ‘Ada ptive’ Challenges? Taking a ‘workademia’ approach and designed for participants in executive and senior organisational roles with significant accountability, participants take part on behalf of their organisation to transform themselves and the teams they lead from ‘good to great’.

Blended Learning through Experiential Seminars and Online Study The masters programme is open to participants from anywhere in the world but recruitment is principally focused on Europe, following a highly successful pilot programme focused on Southeast Asia and Australia. The programme will be delivered through a combination of Crossfields Institute’s virtual learning environment (VLE) and experiential face-to-face intensive seminars. The programme membership will come from a wide range of organisational and personal backgrounds, providing a rich and multi-disciplinary context.

“In most leadership development programmes the main object of study is the thinking and theory of

others. Whilst this kind of learning is important, by itself it can often leave you wondering how it relates to the unique challenges you face right now, in your own environment. In this radical and co-created programme the object of study is your own experience ‘in role’.”

Aarti Kapoor, Grubb School Masters pilot programme participant, is an

international lawyer from the UK and is based in Southeast Asia Enabling Your Organisation to Do What It Was Create d For In particular, the programme’s design is to release the untapped human energy of imagination and resilience present in an organisation to enable the organisation to bring about what it was created for.

The programme pays particular attention to what happens when people work together in organisational life. This includes within the organisation, between organisations and across various sectors. The functioning of the programme itself is regarded as a lived example which is open for study. In short, it sees the world as a functioning whole.

The programme illuminates the political, spiritual, social and economic dimensions of organisations and their influence on both process and outcomes. It works at the critical need to integrate these in order for the organisation to both create productive working environments and at the same time have a positive impact on the broader society.

"Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success." Henry Ford

What Are the Benefits for Your Organisation?

Five Reasons to Engage in Order to Improve, Change and Transform Improved Leadership Capacity It assumes that organisations are engaged with the programme in order to improve, change or transform themselves and their contexts, and that they seek this through improved leadership capacity. They regard participants as learning on behalf of their organisation: they take part on behalf of the organisations that send them as well as for themselves. This also means that the impact of the programme increases when an organisation nominates several people to participate.

Shifting from Great to Good It assumes that organisations select people for the programme who have accountability for parts of the organisations they belong to, where ‘wicked’ and ‘adaptive’ challenges are inhibiting the organisation from shifting from ‘good to great’.

Leveraging Latent Potential It takes it as read that these organisations have people who have to work together, who come from

“This programme, delivered in collaboration with Crossfields Institute, now allows more people and enterprises to access the Grubb’s work at the cutting edge of leadership education which began in 1957. I have found in my own career that an understanding of how organisations work and develop provides a far greater chance of leaders achieving success.” Simon Bazalgette, Group Chief Executive of The Jockey Club, the largest commercial group in British horse racing, and Chairman of the Grubb Institute various professional disciplines, cultures and backgrounds and that these differences can be leveraged as resources during the programme in order to be utilised for the benefit of all.

Return on investment The organisational transformation project, carried out in the third year is negotiated with the sponsoring organisation to ensure the change it brings about is aligned with strategy and current organisational opportunities and challenges. Most academic programmes discourage participants from studying their own organisation in depth; this one is based on the assumption that learning from the lived experience of one’s own organisation is the most potent form of learning.

Value for Money The cost, when compared to current top-ten consulting rates for major change or transformation projects, is the equivalent of approximately eight days consulting time. This makes the programme a small investment over two and a half years.

About the Masters

The Masters of Arts in Philosophy of Social Innovation with Specialisation in Organisational Analysis, is accredited through a Crossfields Institute university partnership.

It emerges from a 55-year history of theory and practice in organisational thinking developed by the Grubb Institute.
