The Song of Heungbu: Creative Dialogue

Instructions:

Please read the sample dialogue (대화) below. The sample dialogue will give you some ideas! After reading the sample dialogue, please make up a new dialogue (새로운 대화) about Heungbu.

Sample dialogue: Ji-hye and Cheol-su consider visiting Heungbu Village.

In this dialogue, Ji-hye and Cheol-su talk about the Song of Heungbu (흥보가). They consider visiting Heungbu Village (흥부 마을).

Ji-hye: I really enjoyed our visit to Namwon! Yesterday, we went to the Garden of Gwanghanlu (광한루원). It was so beautiful and peaceful!

Cheol-su: Yes, that’s true. It’s hard to imagine a more beautiful garden. I also enjoyed the Chunhyang Theme Park.

Ji-hye: Yes, that was fun (재미있었습니다). What shall we do tomorrow?

Cheol-su: Let’s catch a bus to Heungbu Village (흥부 마을).

Ji-hye: Why do you want to go there?

Cheol-su: Well, we’re both interested in pansori and traditional Korean folktales (동화). The Song of Heungbu (흥보가) is one of my favourite sung folktales. If we visit Heungbu Village, we can learn more!

Ji-hye: Well, I’ve seen pictures of Heungbu Village. I’m not sure whether it will be interesting. It doesn’t look as beautiful as Namwon.

Cheol-su: If we go to Heungbu Village, it will be an adventure (모험)! It will be exciting (흥분시키는)! We will see Heungbu’s birthplace (흥부의 생가) and Heungbu’s grave (흥부의 묘).

Ji-hye: If you ask me, it’s just a boring village. As for Heungbu’s grave (묘), we don’t really know whether Heungbu existed. Heungbu is a legendary (전설의) character.

Cheol-su: If you aren’t interested, I’ll go to Heungbu Village alone. You can stay here and visit the Garden of Gwanghanlu again.

Ji-hye: This is supposed to be our honeymoon (신혼 여행)! You should be kind, like Heungbu (흥부 처럼). Instead, you’re behaving like nasty Nolbu!
