Operations will be streamlined with one website and one governing body. A new membership structure has the potential to generate new revenue for local affiliates and encourage more teachers to participate in your professional organizations.

ExplanationThe process for becoming a member of AATJ will be the opposite of how it was in the past. As of January 1, 2012, members who join AATJ will do so via online registration on our website for a $40 membership fee.
For each member who indicates you as their local affiliate, AATJ will send you $15. This means that you may receive new revenue for your organization on behalf of members who were previously only members of ATJ.
Members might join anytime during the
calendar year. Therefore, AATJ will send revenue
to the local affiliates QUARTERLY

Members will be able to pay online using a credit card. This has the potential to
increase your membership.
Benefits of the New Membership System for Affiliates
You do not have to collect any money from your members, unless they only want to join your Affiliate directly (and not AATJ).
The AATJ office will maintain a centralized membership database and share it with
you.
You have potential for new revenue via the $15 you will receive for each prior ATJ member or other
new members who choose you as their Affiliate.
What are the next steps?
In order to receive funds from AATJ, you must have an organizational bank
account and be incorporated.
If you have questions about how to set up a bank account or be incorporated,
NCJLT Board Members and/or the AATJ Office can assist you.
Step One
?
Step Two
Become an “Official Affiliate” of AATJ.
Fill out an “Affiliate Application Form” available at http://www.aatj.org/2012reorganization/LocalAffREG2012.pdf
This form is due by August 31, 2012 in order to receive revenue sharing for the 2012 calendar year. If you submit your form earlier, you can begin receiving revenue as early as February 2012.
?
Step Three
If you wish, share information about the transition with your members using the PowerPoint at this link:
http://www.slideshare.net/jhaxhi/about-aatj-for-members
You may download the PowerPoint for use at your meeting, send a link to members, or embed the
presentation on your website.
Step FourEncourage your members to join AATJ online, at
www.aatj.org after January 1st for the 2012 calendar year. The membership fee is $40. AATJ
will return $15 per member to “Official Affiliates.”
If you already collected $15 for the 2012 national membership, your may mail in your dues to AATJ as usual and your members will have membership in AATJ for the entire 2012 calendar year. After January 1, 2012, membership in AATJ will only be accepted through the new structure (member pays national>>national pays local).
?
Current NCJLT Board Members and new AATJ Board Members are available for
assistance in the process of becoming an “Official Affiliate.” One will be contacting
you shortly, or you may send your questions to the AATJ Executive Director at
AATJ would like to thank the Japan Foundation and the
Japan-US Friendship Commission for their
generous support of this transition process.
