Adding Videos to Google Sites There are a variety of ways you can add a video onto your Google site. I have listed 5 in this guide.

Link a Video 1. Copy the URL of the video you want to link

2. Logon to Google Sites

3. Select the Site that you want to add the video’s link to.

4. Go to the page that you want to add the video’s link to.

5. Click on the ‘Edit’ icon in the upper right-‐hand corner.

6. Either paste the URL directly on the page or type in a description of the video.

Highlight the text that you want to use to create a link (If you pasted the entire URL, you must highlight the entire URL)

7. Click on the “Link” icon in the toolbar (If you pasted the entire URL, the link was

created. Go to step 9)

I typed in a description of the video and will use the word “here” to create a link

8. Select Web Address from the Right and Paste the URL in the prompt box

9. Check the box at the bottom if you want the webpage to be opened in a new

window (this is a nice feature since it prevents the viewer from navigating away from your site.) Hit “OK”

10. Click “Save”

11. Link Created!

From Youtube: 1. Copy the URL of the Youtube video that you want to add


3. Select the Site that you want to add a video to.

4. Go to the page that you want to add a video to.

6. Go to “Insert” in the toolbar. Go to “Video” and Select “Youtube”

7. Past the URL that you copied in step 1

8. Add a title/border (optional) and Click “Save”

9. Choose alignment and text wrap (Optional)


11. Done

From Google Docs: Before you add a video from Google Docs onto your website, make sure that you have changed the video’s share settings from “Private” to “Public”. If this is not done, visitors on your site will not be able to view the video.

Upload video onto Google Docs 1. Logon to Google Documents

2. Click on “Upload” icon and select “Files”

3. Locate video file and click “Choose”

4. Click “Start Upload”

5. Upload will begin and will appear in your documents once complete

Add to Website 6. Logon to Google Sites

7. Select the Site that you want to add an video to.

10. Go to “Insert” in the toolbar. Go to Videos and Select “Google Docs”

11. Highlight the Google Docs video that you want to add and press “Select”

12. Specify display size and title (optional) and press “Save”

13. Choose alignment and text wrap


15. Done

Embedding a Video 1. Locate and copy the Embed code of the video that you want to add (Take note of

the display dimensions-‐width and height-‐ as you will need this info in step 10)

3. Select the Site that you want to add the video to.

6. Go to “Insert” in the toolbar and select “More Gadgets…”

7. In the frame to the left, click on “Featured” and in the search box type in “Embed

Gadget”. Click on “Embed Gadget”

8. Click “Select”

9. Paste the embed code in the embedding snippet box

10. Make sure that the dimensions match the dimensions that you recorded in step

1 of the video and click “OK”

If your embedded gadget looks like an empty box (See below) try viewing the page with another web browser.

Using iFrame 1. Copy the URL of the video that you want to add

6. Go to “Insert” in the toolbar and select “More Gadgets…”

7. In the frame to the left, click on “Features” and in the search box type in “iFrame” and click on “Include Gadget (iFrame)”

8. Click “Select”

9. Paste the URL

10. Adjust the Display Size (Optional) and click “Ok”
