he history of transport evolved with the development of human
culture. For most of human history the only forms of travel apart
from walking were using domesticated animals or transport in
small boats. In the modern world nowadays, the development of science
and technology has brought many convenient transports. People for that
reason travel faster and more safely. They also have more choices of
transports such as bicycle, motorcycle, car, bus, tram, train, plane, etc.
Each kind of them has their own advantages and disadvantages which
everybody needs to care in order to serve their different purposes. In this
essay, benefits and drawbacks of travelling by bicycle, motorcycle, bus,
train and air plane will be mentioned and analyzed.
1. Bicycle
icycles were introduced in the 19th century in Europe and now
number more than a billion worldwide. Bicycles offer an important
mode of transport in many countries, especially developing countries.
Until recently, bicycles have been a staple of everyday life throughout
Asian countries. They are the most frequently used method of transport
for commuting to work, school, shopping, and life in general.
There are some significant advantages that bicycling brings to human.
For a start, riding a bicycle offers many health benefits, it increases
cardiovascular fitness, strength, balance and flexibility, endurance and
stamina, and calories burned. Another important advantage that needs
to be taken into account is that operating a bicycle does not harm the
environment. There is no polluting exhaust released, no oil or gas
consumed. Furthermore, by riding a bicycle, you save your money
because you don’t need to pay for parking, gas or oil, tolls.
On the other hand, bicycling has some dangers and disadvantages which
should be mindful of. The speed of bicycling is low, therefore it takes more
time to travel. The transport capacity of bicycles is also limited. In
addition, most roadways are not designed to accommodate cyclists, which
makes them an inherent danger for bikers. Sharing the road with fast-
moving vehicles and drivers who may or may not be paying attention to
the road or looking out for cyclists can be a dangerous pursuit. Another
point should be mentioned is that sad weather can be a disadvantage for
cyclists, and especially those who rely on their bikes as a primary means
of transportation.

2. Motorcycle
otorcycles are one of the most popular forms of motorised transport
in many parts of the world and, for most of the world's population,
they are also the most common type of motor vehicle.
People choose to ride motorcycles for various reasons. First of all,
motorcycles are much smaller than cars or buses, so people ride them as
a means of avoiding or reducing the effects of urban congestion. Secondly,
motorcycles are fast enough to travel or transport. Besides, motorcycles
burn less gas than most cars.
However, the disadvantages of a motorcycle could be limited passenger
space, limited luggage capacity, much greater threat of injury from
collisions and mechanical failure, limited driving season in some
climates, ease of theft, and the requirements of personal safety
equipment. Motorcycles have a higher rate of fatal accidents than
automobiles or trucks and buses. In addition, motorcycles are also a
reason of air pollution when they produce greenhouse gases.
3. Bus
us is a kind of road vehicle designed to carry passengers. Nowadays,
it’s easy to find buses because they are popular in big cities.
The appearance of bus brings considerable advantages to human society.
Travelling by bus is a cheap service that involves no driving or stress for
the person travelling as they don't have to take control of the vehicle.
Another benefit of buses is that they decrease the number of transports,
therefore they reduce congestion. In addition, there is also no need to look
for parking places when travelling by bus.
However, there are disadvantages as much as the advantages that be
mentioned. The first one is the time. You can waste a lot of time waiting
for the bus that has been stuck in the traffic jam for example. Secondly,
sometime bus is too crowded, suffocated and it seems not enough room
for everyone. Moreover, you can get robbed on the bus.
4. Train
Traveling by train can be a reliable way to reach your destination while
enjoying local scenery.
Trains allow you to travel in safety and comfort. They pollute less, rarely
suffer from weather delays and won't give you jet lag. You can talk to your

companions, read a book, take phone calls, sleep or eat. From another
point of view, trains are very cost-effective compared to other modes of
transport.
Despite the above advantages, travelling by train also has some
drawbacks. That is noisy due to bumps and rocking on some routes and
from other passengers. Additionally, railway transport is unsuitable and
uneconomical for short distances but it also cannot offer travelling over
sea.
5. Airplane
irplane travel really can be one of the most efficient ways to travel
around the world. The availability of cheap air travel means that it is
now easy for almost anyone to fly anywhere. However, traveling by air has
both advantages as well as disadvantages.
The biggest advantage of flying is that it is often the fastest way to get
from one place to another, especially when long distances are involved. It
helps us save a lot of time, so we can do more things. Secondly, the
comfort of air traveling makes people satisfactory. When traveling by air,
we can sit comfortably in an arm-chair, reading magazines or watching a
free film on television.
Apart from these advantages, however, traveling by air has its
disadvantages too. First of all, flying is often the most expensive form of
transportation. Then air travels depend on weather a lot. If it’s bad, flights
will be delayed. Finally, when traveling by air, we can’t stop wherever we
want to enjoy beautiful landscapes on our way as we do in a trip by car
or boat.
o conclude, there are many ways of travelling we can choose
nowadays. Each way has both advantages and disadvantages that
everyone needs to care so as to serve their travel purpose. With the
development of science and technology, human will witness a lot of
changes of transportation in the future. Green technology will replace
recent technology and bring to our society great benefits. It’s hoped that
we will have the most optimal transports someday.
