«Books for Russia» в 1945-46 гг.

Проект "Героическому советскому народу" на сайте Брянской ОНУБ

• Брянская областная научная универсальная библиотека была образована в августе 1944 года сразу после освобождения Брянщины от немецко-фашистских захватчиков.

• Среди первых коллекций, поступивших в фонд областной библиотеки, были книги, подаренные американским народом. Эти книги являются подлинным доказательством послевоенных дружеских отношений между народами Америки и России. Книги из Америки стали частью истории благодаря акции по сбору книг для пострадавших советских библиотек, проходившей при участии супруги Президента США Элеоноры Рузвельт.

• К числу этих книг можно отнести издания с экслибрисами с изображением советского и американского флагов, заключенных в круговую надпись “To the Heroic Pеople of the Soviet Union from the People of America” (Героическому народу Советского Союза от американского народа). Благодаря сохраненным экслибрисам, печатям и надписям мы смогли узнать об участии в акции таких благотворительных организаций как Russian (War) Relief («Комитет помощи России в войне»), American Society For Russian Relief, Inc., Brookline Mass. Committee Russian War Relief, Inc., различных учебных заведений Америки. Надписи на экслибрисах позволили нам узнать имена людей, передавших книги из своих личных библиотек.

• Основу этой коллекции составляют издания конца XIX – начала XX в. классиков английской и американской литературы. Некоторые книги изданы в годы войны (1942 г.). Многие годы эти книги пользовались большим спросом у читателей отдела литературы на иностранных языках, о чем свидетельствуют многочисленные записи о выдаче. С годами что-то из этих книг было утрачено; более 60 американских книг с экслибрисами дошли до наших дней. Сейчас эти издания хранятся в секторе редкой и ценной книги БОНУБ и по-прежнему доступны читателям библиотеки.

• Брянская областная научная универсальная библиотека им. Ф. И. Тютчева и ее читатели выражают глубокую признательность всем участникам этой благородной акции.
