Logistical Integration Hierarchy
Strategic positioning and universal process . Focus regarding how toselect to complete involves four process essential to success : creation of customer value, planning, control, and succession generation. All firmmust perform all universal processes for long- term survival and growth.
Competencies. Performance area essential to achieving universal process.A wide variety of competencies are required for long-term survival Afirm typically excels in a few, which are referred to as core competencies.
Performance cycle. Operational structure for logistic execution. Structurethat integrates temporal and spatial aspect of logistical operations linkingprocurement, manufacturing, support, and physical distribution.

Logistical Integration Hierarchy
Function. Traditional areas of logistic specialization essential for operationalexcellence Must be viewed as integral parts of overall logistic competency, not asunique performance areas.
Basic work. Specific jobs that must be performed within functions to satisfylogistical requirements

Logistical Competency is relative assessment of firm capability to
provide competitively superior customer service at the lowest possibletotal cost.
Logistical Mission. Service and Total Cost. The challenge is to balanceservices expectations and cost expenditure in a manner that achieves
businessobjectives.
Basic Logistical Service is measured in term of :1. Availability2. Operational performance3. Service reliability.

Availability : Having inventory to consistently meet customer material orproduct requirement.
Operational performance : deals with the elapsed time from order receiptto delivery. Involved delivery speed and consistency.
Service reliability involved the quality attribute of logistic .
Total Cost was positioned to include all expenditures necessary to performlogistic requirements.
Managers typically focused on minimizing functional cost, such astransportation, with the expectation that such effort would achieve thelowest combined cost.

Development profile.
Overall logistic management is concern with operationsand coordination. Operations deal with strategic movementand storage. Direction in integrating : Physical distribution, manufacturing support, procurement toward single logisticprocess
Material, semi finished component, finished product Location, supply source, customer and enterprise
The mission of logistical system is measured in term of total cost andperformance .

Network design.
Classical economics neglected the importance of facility location and network design. Competitive circumstances invites new assumption that logisticaloperations need network affected customer service capability.Network design is primary responsibility of logistical management since a
firms facility structure is used to provide product and materials to customers.
Information.
The importance of information to logistical performance has historically notbeen highlighted. This neglect result from the lack suitable technology togenerate desired information. The reasons why managers use information toachieve positive control of logistical operations is their desire to replaceforecasting inaccuracy with faster response to customer requirement.

Transportation.
Given facility network and information capability, transportation isoperational area logistic that geographically position inventory. Three basicway of transportation : private fleet of equipment may be operated, contractmay be arrange with specialist, and the enterprise may engage the service of
wide variety of carrier that provide different transportation services on anindividual shipment basis.

Inventory.
The inventory requirement defend on the network structure andthe desired level of customer services. Theoretically a firm could stock every
sold in facility dedicated to service each customer.Lowest possible cost of stock in inventory should be became considered of thelogistic manager.
Warehousing Material Handling, and packaging.Four functional areas of logistic ( network design, information, transportationand inventory ) can be engineered into variety of different operationalarrangement.
The final functions of logistics warehousing, material handling, and packaging also represent an integral part of an operating operations.Warehousing : own company or leasing.Within warehouse, material handling is an important activity. Products must bereceived, moved, sorted, and assembled to meet customer order requirement.
Two purpose : protection of the product and easy in handling based on the sizeof the goods.
