building or institution.

Here Are 5 Reasons To Go To

Church

1. Showing Up Is A

Spiritual Practice

Please don’t confuse this with attendance – “I don’t object to the

concept of a deity – but I am baffled by the notion of one that takes

attendance.” (Amy Farrah Fowler – Big Bang Theory)

Life is more than just a struggle for survival – it has meaning

Just showing up is a part of who we are – the need to gather – to

search out meaning.

To believe despite the worst that life can throw at us.

We show up because we know that God shows up too.

2. The

Binary Code

Sometimes The Seeming Useless Study Of The Profound Divinity Around Us – Can Lead

Somewhere… Somewhere That Is So Far Beyond Our Present Reality That We Can Not Even

Imagine It

Gottfried Leibniz, a German mathematician. 1646-1716 was a very religious man and associated 1 with God and 0 with nothingness and it pleased him that

all numbers could be created out of unity and nothing. At the time his invention seemed to have no practical use. But now, most computing devices use

this number system because computer memory is made up of small elements which can only be in two

states off/on or 0/1A completely useless concept – but now 0101010 or

the binary code – universal language .

So let us dare ourselves to see the world not as it is but as it

becomes because we put ourselves into it – not knowing – but trusting that each of our lives and each of our actions

matter

3. The Floor Is Worn

There is something to be said for the honouring what our ancestors sought.

Which was, a place to worship. There is power in the worn floor , it means this building was used. It is worn because it

has taken spills, mistakes, good ideas that made a mess. It has been Shelter from rain,

a place to come to for comfort. It is good to be a part of something beyond

ourselves – it connects us to something deeper.

4. But Not Worn Out

This building has been changing since it was built.

It changed with the times - and it is hard to change.

“At every crossroads on the path that leads to the future, tradition has placed 10,000 men to guard the past.” Maurice Maeterlinck

“Tradition becomes our security, and when the mind is secure it is in decay.”Jiddu Krishnamurti

So let us proclaim ourselves not worn out - and be transformed.

To Be as Wise as Serpents

And as Gentle As Doves

People go to a place of worship – not to remove themselves from the world but in

order to engage more deeply in it. We must go to church – in whatever form it might

become - because we need to forgive and be forgiven, inspire and be inspired, be

comforted and afflicted, Religion and ritual is invented to make the everyday miracle of life

stand out. “Science and technology revolutionize our

lives, but memory, tradition and myth frame our response.” Arthur M. Schlesinger

“Christians often want to hide behind the walls of the church, where we are

comfortable, but sometimes we have to come out of the box.” Cheryl James

“Clearly a big challenge for Christianity is how to remain in contact with the

millions of people who look for God but do not come to Church.”

Timothy Radcliffe

“A Church Is A Hospital

For Sinners, Not A Museum

For Saints.”Abigail Van Buren
