Introduction

This sutta was sermonized by the Buddha for the demon of Ālavaka..

ā

Who is the Ālavaka Ālavaka is a demon and a leader who was

leading a gang of demons.

At one time the Blessed One lived in the abode of the demon Aalavaka. Then the demon Aalavaka approached the Blessed One and said to him.

The Buddha & Ālavaka

Ālavaka:- I’ll ask you some questions, If you don’t answer me, I’ll confound your mind, split your heart or take you by the feet and throw you over the river..

The Buddha:- My friend, I don’t see anyone in this world, including the devas, Maras Brahmas, ascetics and men, who could confound my mind or split my heart. But, nevertheless, ask me whatever you want.

The Buddha & Ālavaka Ālavaka:-

What is a person’s highest wealth ?. What when well practiced brings happiness?. What indeed is the sweets of flavours?. Living in what way is one’s life called the best ?.

The Buddha:-

Faith is a person’s highest wealth. Dhamma, when well-practiced, brings happy Truth is the highest of taste. Living with wisely, one’s life is called the best

The Buddha & Ālavaka

Ālavaka

I will go from village to village

and from

town to town

Worshipping the all Enlightened One and the

goodness of the Teaching

Conclusion

Ālavaka sutta is a very useful one for our life. Because, it teaches us to that What is a person’s highest wealth? and What when well practiced brings happy? As well as, if some one be able to live according to the teaching of the Buddha he will definitely be a luckiest person in this world.
