Location of the “O’Hare” surname in the 1860’s based on Griffiths Valuations

A look at some other famous O'Hare's

Disturbing a grave was a criminal offence, as was the taking of property from the deceased. Stealing the body was not an offence, as it did not legally belong to anyone. The price per corpse changed depending on the season. It was £8 during the summer, when the warmer temperatures brought on quicker decomposition, and £10 in the winter months, when the demand by anatomists was greater, because the colder temperatures meant they could store corpses longer so they undertook more dissections

The Burke and Hare murders were a series of 16 murders committed over a period of about ten months in 1828 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The killings were undertaken by William Burke and William Hare, who sold the corpses to Doctor Robert Knox for dissection at his anatomy lectures.

Hare turned ‘Kings evidence against Burke.

Ironically Burke was dissected after hanging and is skeleton is still on display at Edinburgh Medical School.

Hare wandered around Britain may have been blinded in a Lime Pit incident later returned to Northern Ireland where buried in Kilkeel.

What is the name of the airport in Chicago?

Who was this Butch O’Hare and what was his connection with Al Capone.

Edward Joseph O'Hare, known to friends and family as E.J., was born on September 5, 1893 in St. Louis to first-generation Irish-American parents Patrick Joseph O'Hare and Cecelia Ellen Malloy O'Hare. He trained as a lawyer. He represented the inventor Owen P. Smith, high commissioner of the International Greyhound Racing Association, who had patented a mechanical running rabbit for use in dog racing. And after Owen died he represented his widow and effectively ran the business which included expanding into Chicago where he met Al Capone O'Hare and Capone began collaborating in business and in law. O'Hare made a second fortune through his ties to Capone. However, they had a dispute and O’Hare had a meeting with the IRS where he advised the way to get Capone was on Tax Evasion. He led them to Capone’s Book-keeper and helped break the code used in the books. He even tipped off the judge that Capone had rigged the jury in his first trail.

Capone got jail from 1933 t0 1939

A week before Capone’s release E J O’Hare was driving home from one of his race-tracks,A car pulls up beside his and a man with a shotgun loaded with ‘big-game bullets opens fire.

E J died instantly, he must have known he was under threat as he had a loaded pistol in the car.

He was only 46 and upon searching him the police found this little poem in his wallet.

The clock of life is would but onceAnd no man has the powerTo tell just where the hands will stopAt late or early hourNow is the only time you ownLive, love, toil with a will.

But why name an Airport after E J O’Hare

It is not named after him but his son, Butch O’Hare.

Who was Butch and why name an airport after him.

The finding of fossilized skeletons of the Irish Elk, not exclusively Irish as mentioned and indeed not an Elk, at least not a member of the present Elk family, was important in the study of Evolution and Extinction. Until the 18th Century it was believed that fossilized remains, when found, were just skeletons of animals still in existence somewhere else on the planet. However, a French scientist Georges Cuvier showed that the Irish elk did not belong to any species of mammal that was living at the time but had to have been a species that had died out. His study of the Irish elk was a key moment in the history of the study of extinction and ultimately evolution.

Many of the ‘Stone Men’ went on to Canada to build, Churches, City Halls Universities in the main Towns and Cities, such as Robert Skillen from Bryansford.
