Beneath,tellsus,“IdecidedtotakesometimeoffandfigureoutexactlywhatIwantedtodomusically,andshortlyafterChangerfoldedIcalledJóhanntoseeifhewasinterestedinforminganewband.Hewasandthatgottheballrolling.Theintentionwasclearfromthestart,wewantedtoplayfastdeathmetal.”FastDeathMetalisindeedwhatthebandisallabout.OneofthebandsthatregularlypoppedintomyheadwasBoltThrower,notbecauseofsimilaritiesinmusic,butinthesimilarapproachinawaytothemusic.Bothbandsremindmeofcruisingtanksgoingthroughthebattlefieldscrushingeverythingintheirway,blowingupeverythingwithintheirrange.Now,Beneath’smusicisabitofamixtureofoldmeetingnewDeathMetal.WouldyousaythattheagedifferenceofthemembershasplayedapartinthefactthatBeneathmanagetofillthegapbetterthanmostthattrytofusetheoldwiththenew?“You'renotthefirstonetosaythatwemixoldandnewdeathmetalwelltogether,but

Sinister.Howdidthatcomeabout?“ItwasofcourseagreatforustobethefirstIcelandicbandtoplayWackenandthefirsttorepresentIcelandintheWackenMetalBattle.Thegigwentwellandwegotgoodreception.Overallitwasaverygoodexperienceforus.Iwouldn'tsaythatWackenchangedourintentionswiththebandinanywaythough.WehadalreadybeenincontactwiththeDeathFeastguysandthatjuststartedwithasingleemail.Wecontactedtheminitiallyforthe2009editionofthefestivalandthenkeptintouchandendeduponthe2010edition.We'reofcourseveryexcitedaboutgettingtosharethestagewiththoselegendarybandsandbeapartofapurelydeathmetalfestival.”Whowouldn’tbe?Tobeonstagewiththesamepeoplethatdug“TribesoftheMoon”upfromit’sgrave,notbad!However,allthegigsI’veseenyouguyslistedfortherestofthisyeararefestivaldates.Wasthisaconsciousdecision?“Nothisisjusthowthingshavetranspired,”Gíslisays,“westillhaveafewthingsintheworks,bothhereathomeandabroadandhopefullysomethingwillcomeoutofthat.Wehavealreadyplayedthreegigsthisyear,tworeleasegigsforourEPandthenatthe2010

TheMCD,“HollowEmptyVoid”actuallywaspostponedabitbecauseoftroublesatthepressingplant,whichseemstoberathercommonthesedays,andonlysawthelightofdayacoupleofweeksago.Fourstudiotracksandtwolivetracks,makingthetracksintotalsixforyouwithasoftspotformath.TheMCDwasreleasedbyayounglabelbasedintheUnitedStates,MordbrannMusikk.SomehavelinkedthedealwithMordbranntothevictoryofWackenMetalBattleandthesubsequentliveperformanceatWOAbutisitreallyso?“No.wewerealreadyincontactwithMordbrannMusikkbeforeourWackenappearancesothathadnothingtodowitheachother.”

Reykjavikvs.UppsalaHowdidtheco‐operationwithDanielBergstrandcomeabout?Uppsala,SwedenisalongwayfromReykjavik,Iceland.AlthoughBergstrandhandledthemixingwasthealbumitselfrecordedatthesamestudioyouusedforthemini‐album?SidetrackingabitherebutareyoufamiliarwiththeresurgenceofoldfashionedDeathMetalinUppsalaandhaveyoucheckedoutanyofthebandsfromthere?“WejustcontactedDanielandhewasavailable

andinterestedsowejusttookitfromthere.Ihavetosaythatwearereallyhappywithwhathedidwiththemixesandcan'twaittohearthefinalmasteredversion.Werecordedtheguitars,bassandvocalsatFosslandStudioagain,justaswedidwiththeEP,butwedecidedtorecordthedrumselsewherethistime.WewenttoSundlauginStudio,that'sthestudiothatSigurRósbuiltandfinishedthedrumtracksinaweekendthere.Iwasn'tawarethattherewasadeathmetalresurgencespecificallyinUppsala,butIwouldbeveryinterestedincheckingoutanybandsfromthere.”

“First of all I would like to say, that Argharus is aLithuanian Black Metal band, which evolved into fullyfunctioning entity somewhere around 2005.
