604 A.D – 675 a.d
- The first wooden church dedicated to St Paul's is built By saint Mellitus, Bishop of the East Saxons.
- It burned down in 675 and is rebuilt soon after.
- The new 2nd cathedral was then destroyed by Vikings and rebuilt again.
962 a.d
- The 3rd cathedral was built out of stone
- Order by saint erkenwald, bishop of london
- a fire in the year 1087 destroyed it and most of London
1087 a.d- 4th cathedral is refereed as “old St. Pauls”- Year 1136, fire disrupted the work but was continued again in the year 1240- Architectural design changed from Romanesque gothic- Became largest building in the world- Burned downed in the year 1666 during the great fire of London
1669 a.d – 1711 a.d
- Architect: sir Christopher wren - First design of the cathedral - declared open on 25th December 1711
- Archtectural design: baroque style - total cost in 1711 is £1,095,556

- Separated from aisles with piers that has Corinthian designed pilasters above
- The nave is roofed with saucer shaped domes
- The windows are clerestory and covered with lunettes that are gold
- The carvings on the walls are popular Dutch flower painting in wood.
- various wrought iron and gilt grills, gates and balustrades of various design, have been combined into the gates near the sanctuary.
- The dome is raised on a tall drum surrounded by pilasters and pierced with windows in groups of three, separated by eight gilded niches containing statues, and repeating the pattern of the peristyle on the exterior.
- apex of the dome is an oculus inspired by that of the Pantheon in Rome
