☆Misconceptions of Style

★Style is only a surface decoration.

★ Style is only confined to literature.

☆Tentative Definitions of Style

Style includes the writer’s way of thinking about his subject and his characteristic way of presenting it for a particular purpose or reader.

more frequently those choices are exercised and the more wide-ranging they are, the higher the probability they will effectively express the writer’s unique thought and feelings.

★ Style is a means of discovery, for both the writer and the reader.

Exercise

It has been noted with concern that the stock of books in the library has been declining alarmingly. Students are asked to remind themselves of the rules for the borrowing and return of books, and to bear in mind the needs of other students.
