How did graffiti begin?- Graffiti was first used in

Ancient Greece as a means of advertising.

- People in ancient Rome also used graffiti to give out religious messages.

- Back then graffiti was done by scratching the image or words into stone walls using knives and sharp tools, very different from the hi-tech spray cans used by modern day graffiti artists.

- In the ancient times, and also in many places today, graffiti is considered vandalism because it has often been done without the owner’s permission.

-If you were caught doing graffiti in ancient Greece you would either be put in jail or receive a public whipping!

• - Keith Haring was another artist

who managed to make a name for himself through graffiti.

• - Haring was famous for the speed at which he painted and also for drawing with one continuous line.

• - He is commonly associated with his piece ‘The Radiant Baby’
