Larisa began going swimming when she was 4 years old. Then she entered into

the sports school in Volgograd.

Larisa Ilchenko

became the first Olympic Champion in the history in swimming at 10 km (open water), Beijing, China, August 20, 2008. She is the unique in the history of Russian women swimming 8-time world champion.

For the contribution to development of physical culture and sports, high achievements in sport at the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008 Larisa Ilchenko was awarded the Order of Friendship

Awards:

Honoured master of sports of Russia (2006)

Larisa left sport because of health problems. But she found herself as the kids coach in the swimming pool. She lives and works in Volgograd.
