Today we will: Observe different substances and record

your observations Identify and recognize General, Physical

and Characteristic properties of matter Describe how physical properties can be

used to gather information about a substance.

Properties of a substance that can be observed without changing the substance

Physical Properties may include but ar enot limited to: Color Texture Shape Conductivity Size Luster Hardness Odor

Red, blue , yellow, green or a mix of colors

How smooth or rough something feels to the touch

Round, jagged, square etc.

That which allows heat or electricity to pass through is considered “Conductive”

How large or small something is

Quality of light reflection Shiny or dull

How soft or hard a substance is. Can it easily be

scratched with a fingernail, a steel nail?

Describes the specific smell if any

The physical property of a substance that allows the substance to be hammered and shaped into sheets.
