Our partnership with USAA has been and continues to be outstanding. The New Millennium Platinum
status in the Cartus network has positioned our New Millennium to capitalize on some new and exciting di-
rections that USAA has taken. There are three critical initiatives that USAA believes will help further drive
even more business through the network.
As many of you know, on Veterans Day, 2009, USAA announced a change to their membership criteria
that drastically expands the number of people eligible to use the Movers Advantage Program. This new crite-
ria took the potential people that are eligible for membership from approximately 61 million. “We believe
our membership has the potential to expand by as much as 10-15%, in 2010”, said Greg Jaeger, Vice Presi-
dent of Real Estate Lending Business Development at USAA. USAA is marketing the program and
their new criteria hard. “There are roughly 30 markets that USAA has targeted for major advertising cam-
paigns. The DC Metro area and Fredericksburg area are two of these major markets”, says Jaeger. “We are
counting on our partners like CENTURY 21 New Millennium to deliver excellent service as they help these
additional customer buy and sell homes.” Steve Slabaugh Vice President Affinity Services/Welcome Center of
Cartus shared preliminary numbers for the USAA that suggests the expanded advertising is working. Year
over year, new customers were up 23%, placements were up 19.3%, and settlements are up 38.6% across the
country!
The second key initiative for USAA is to expand their web marketing platform. They have hired Vast Tech-
nologies to help them with these efforts. A direct benefit of this new program is the ability for New Millen-
nium to showcase all of the local MLS listings on the USAA member website. As members research their
USAA benefits on USAA.com, they will have a direct feed to local housing. New Millennium’s banner will
rotate through as the company providing the listings to USAA. Contracts with the MRIS were initialed on
April 13th, said Todd Hetherington. “We’re excited about what this opportunity means for the continued
growth of New Millennium,” Todd added. USAA expects this information to be live for their members in mid
to late June. Watch for your members to have their mobile devices with them during home searches. They
will have the ability to take notes on the houses that you are showing them through this technology as just
one of the great features that this technology delivers.
The third key initiative for USAA is to allow partners like New Millennium and its agents to use the USAA
trademark to identify our partnership with them. USAA has finalized the guidelines for us to be able to add
their logo to business cards and email tag lines. This is a big step for USAA who rightfully has always been pro-
tective of their trademark and the great expectations that follow it. “This opportunity provides us a powerful
marketing opportunity to identify USAA customers and register them through our Agent Generated Referral
(AGR) program”, said Mary Lynn Stone. “Email tags and business card logos will be rolled out to our USAA
agents this month.”

agents. Remember, all agents are eligible to AGR a client and receive a 10% reduction to the referral fee

On Saturday, March 20, the Woodbridge office, 1st County Mortgage and the Prince William SPCA joined together to collect donations for the SPCA's Pet Food Pantry. The pantry is designed to offer needy families in the community a way to care for their pets during hard times. The community responded overwhelmingly by donating hundreds of bags of pet food, $440 "in cash" and other needed items making our first "Giving Back" event a huge success.

We believe, no, scratch that, we know that if we all maintain our FOCUS,
2009 will be a terrific year for us. In fact, our watch word for 2009- FOCUS, may seem simple at first blush, but it is actually rather complex. What we are asking everyone to do in 2009 is to keep their FOCUS. Our industry has changed drastically over the past decade. Gone are the days where we can fly by the seat of our pants.
We all need to maintain our FOCUS on that which generates results. We need to all get a little more granular and literally calendar out those activities that will result in lead generation and closed business. We need to learn when to say NO and when to NOT take that listing or NOT work with that buyer. We need to stop wasting our time on those activities that don’t bring results- FOCUS- simple, yet complex. We have established that real estate is local and that no two markets are exactly alike. In a similar vein, we would submit
to you that no two agents are exactly alike. Shocking. Take a look around at those agents that are up considerably year over year. They have been executing their action plans. They have been working in tandem with their branch leaders; they have been positively coached with the mindset that we as a company will do everything in our power to assist them in achieving their successes. They haven’t been afraid to hold themselves accountable and to modify their business plan. They’ve already begun fine tuning their own laser FOCUS. Let’s all learn from these successful agents. They are more than willing to share what works and what doesn’t. As we enter 2009, let’s all make a pact that we will maintain our laser FOCUS. Every deal matters. Every person matters.

their home with a New Millennium agent will be automatically

The Stafford office's Client Appreciation Day, held on
March 7, was the perfect opportunity to say "thank you" to
their clients and friends in celebration of being awarded the #1

It's one thing to host a website and post information, but to have a site where the user of your information has an opportunity to respond, ask questions and request tai-lored information just takes it one step further. This is one of the main advantages that Diane Harris, the new social media specialist at New Millennium wants to explore. "Now it's a two-way channel, you can get the message out and hear feedback too," she said.
With an extensive background in communications, Harris held several corporate jobs in sales, training and project management in the past and feels that social media is one area that can really take off for New Millennium. Whether it's Facebook, Twitter, blogging or videos on YouTube, new media is one place where New Millennium can definitely make a presence.
Although CENTURY 21and CENTURY 21 New Millennium already have a Face-book presence, she wants to increase it to a page for each New Millennium branch where agents can post pictures, text and videos. "Agents can show their personality with video," she said. This is another way they can create bonds with their clients, which is adheres perfectly with Todd and Mary Lynn's philosophy. "Enhancing this new media is absolutely the way to go," said Todd. There are many ways the new media can tie in with the Sphere of Influence (SOI) lists and highlight all the commu-nity events New Millennium is famous for.
Harris was introduced to New Millennium through family - her twin sister is married to Jim Ramsay, the Senior VP in Franchise Sales. She has a husband, Jeff, and two daughters, and is participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure this June.
New Millennium goes New Media
With homebuyer tax credits still floating around and the affordability conditions right, now is a good time to sell. Exist-
ing home sales are up 6.8 percent and the real estate situation in this area is looking up. According to the National Asso-
ciation of Realtors (NAR), the median price for a home in this area is up compared to this time last year. In March 2009,
the median price of a home was $287,300 and this March, it was $298,900.
Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, said it is encouraging to see a broad home sales recovery in nearly every part of
the country, with two important underlying trends. “Sales have been above year-ago levels for nine straight months, and
inventory has trended down from year-ago levels for 20 months running,” he said. “The home buyer tax credit has been a
resounding success as these underlying trends point to a broad stabilization in home prices. This is preserving perhaps $1
trillion in largely middle class housing wealth that may have been wiped out without the housing stimulus measure.”
What does that mean around New Millennium? Sales are up, listings are moving quickly and the agents are busier than
ever and the coming summer should be busy. "Recently our numbers have been looking better, and the reason is simple:
our agents are creating a plan and sticking to it," said New Millennium CEO Todd Hetherington.
According to a First Home Buyers and Sellers Survey, conducted by the CENTURY 21 corporate office, more than 80
percent of first-home buyers and sellers feel the current housing market is more affordable today than this time last year.
Part of the survey dealt with buyers and sellers knowledge of the market: 60 percent of first home buyers do not feel they
have a good handle on the real estate process, and 85 percent feel that using a real estate professional is important.
"That's where our agents top notch training and personal skills are valuable, it's one of the
things that made us the number one CENTURY 21 franchise in the nation," Todd added.
Three skills valued by both buyers and sellers are knowledge of the area, trustworthiness and
responsiveness. "Being there is half the battle," Todd said.

The red ribbons came out this year to mark a special open house event where New Millennium agents entered their customers in “The Vacation Giveaway.” During the weekend of December 13 - 14, 2008, contestants filled out entry forms each time they visited a CENTURY 21 New Millennium Red Ribbon Open House. In the end, Jennifer Hoffman of La Plata won a great vacation after visiting an open house hosted by Vicki Moore, an agent in the La Plata office. Jennifer’s name was drawn at the corporate office on Christmas Eve. Kim Viani, the new central office support manager, called Ms. Hoffman and brightened her holiday with the good news. The Grand Prize was a Group RCI Resort Vacation Certificate valued at $1,500 for a one week
vacation stay at Group RCI affiliated property. That wasn’t the only thing that made this Red Ribbon Open House a special event. McLean agent
Russ Conners turned one of his return customers into a buyer, proving that the Open House is a valuable selling tool in real estate. Conners is not afraid to admit it took a skilled agent too. “I had a previous showing buyer back to the house for a second look where I had the opportunity to point out all of the selling points personally that his buyer agent may not have been aware of.... in combina-tion with extraordinary salesmanship of course!” said Conners.

the graduating seniors. Project Graduation is Drug and Alcohol Free event spon-
sored by The Chemical People of Charles County. It is a
PARTY held for the graduating seniors of Charles County,
MD. The Party offers the graduates FREE Food and Drinks,
video production, photo key chains, and each senior receives a commemorative beach towel designed
with the year and the colors and theme of the party. There will also be swimming, a DJ, games and
More Games. Organizers hired Fantasy World to supply the larger games and at the end of the evening
prizes are given out. The students are also asked to create a banner that is hung up during the party.
There have been some wonderful artwork from these. Each one reflects
the schools individual ideas and are very unique. Games and activities are
chosen by the students and vary from year to year. The activities from
the past have included a Mechanical Bull, Lazar Tag, Obstacle course,
Henna Tattoos. The Chemical People of Charles County has been host-
ing Project Graduation since 1986. This year's party will mark the 25th
year.

La Plata Reaches Out for Project Graduation
On April 28, the staff and agents from several offices took to the bowling alley for some fun and
competition. They divided into four teams and let the pins fly. On the Proactive Property Manage-
ment team, it was Ted Maschler, Chris Hayes, Michael Foxwell, and Debbie Gitlin, chal-
lenging the Core Services Team of Scott Becker, Jack Kornfeind, Cathy Tomlinson,
Dave Strauss; the McLean Team of Lori
Wertz, Dan Wertz, Jason Carrier, and
Kelly Olafsson; and the Alexandria Team of
Cine Wright, Janette Peterson, Jessie
Braudaway, Joe Estabrooks, Trey
Grooms, Jim Carrier, Tekla, Chris Carl-
son, Dave Alewine, Amir Habibzedeh, and Jeff Payne.
Everyone had a great time and raised $600 for Children's Hospital. " The
best part was getting everyone together for some pizza, beers and laughs. In
spite of all the laughs we did have some very good bowlers in our midst," said
Alexandria CSR Tekla Bota, one of the chief organizers. Special thanks to
Bobbie McCarty for “working the bowling alley” collecting all the donations
from other bowlers.
