Armonías de luz

Mompó quería pintar el aire y casi lo consiguió con sus famosos Alaró, una serie pintadasobre metacrilato en la localidad mallorquina del mismo nombre. Andreas Strobel pintacon la luz utilizando un recurso similar, el metacrilato, pero añadiendo la tecnología LED.

Strobel trabaja con la pasión y la paciencia de un arqueólogo. Su mirada se posasobre los objetos destinados al vertedero o a la chatarra y nos los devuelve con-vertidos en obras de arte.

Aprovechando las nuevas tecnologías construye hermosas cajas de luz que, amodo de cuadros/esculturas, permiten al espectador manipularlos buscando elcromatismo deseado y, como hace el fotógrafo, detener el instante y crear la propiaobra.

Cuesta imaginar que sus formas hayan tenido otros usos y formaran parte de unautomóvil o una lavadora, por poner dos ejemplos. Ahora, gracias a su sensibilidady oficio, son gamas sutiles de colores producidas por la intermitente luz que losatraviesa. Una luz que, con un mando a distancia a modo de batuta, convierte alobservador en director, en artista que crea su propia sinfonía de colores.

Strobel trabaja las distintas técnicas, estudiando fotografía, dibujo, geometría, arqui-tectura. Es un gran observador de todo lo que le rodea. Se confiesa admirador deGaudí, Frank Gehry, Foster, Oscar Niemeyer, Dalí…

Andreas Strobel, con sus esculturas de luz, estimula nuestra sensibilidad y, además,nos permite recuperar al niño que llevamos en nuestro interior y dejarle jugar, batutaen mano, mientras contempla el prodigio de la luz convertida en arte.

Harmonies of light

Mompó wanted to paint the air and almost got it with his famous Alaró, a seriespainted on acrylic glass in the Majorcan town of the same name. Andreas Strobel“paints” with light using a similar resource, methacrylate, but adding LED technology

Strobel works with the passion and patience of an archaeologist. His gaze restson the objects destined for the landfill or the scrapyard and turns them intoworks of art.

Taking advantage of new technologies, Strobel builds beautiful boxes of light that,by way of pictures or sculptures, allow the viewer to manipulate the images insearch of the desired colour and, as a photographer might do, catch the momentand create their very own work of art.

It is hard to imagine that the forms he creates have had other uses as part of a caror a washing machine, to give two examples. Now, thanks to his sensitivity andskills, they have become a subtle range of colours produced by the flashing lightthat passes through them. Light regulated with a remote control acts as a baton,allowing the observer to become an art director, creating his/her own symphony ofcolours.

Strobel works using various techniques, studying photography, drawing, geometry andarchitecture. He is a great observer of everything that surrounds him. He admits beingan admirer of Frank Gehry, Foster, Oscar Niemeyer, Gaudí and Dalí, among others.

Andreas Strobel, with his sculptures of light, stimulates our senses and also allowsus to return to our childhood, letting us play, baton in hand, while watching the won-der of light turned into art.

La necesidad de crear del ser humano, de expresarse, nos ha dejado toda una co-lección de obras maestras.

El motivo que lleva a diseñar y crear una obra, a modelar el barro, a trabajar la pin-tura y la piedra, son siempre los mismos: expresar nuestros sentimientos, pensa-mientos o filosofía de vida.

Mi forma de expresión tiene que ver con la luz. En un momento en que los conti-nuos cambios tecnológicos nos inundan, he decidido recuperar materiales consi-derados desechos y al modificarlos pretendo devolverles a la vida, lo cual meproduce una particular sensación de satisfacción.

Me identifico con mi obra, con los colores que cambian, con la singularidad decada pieza, con la posibilidad de interacción con ella; en definitiva, con la posi-bilidad de tener algo único entre las manos con lo que desarrollar una relaciónpersonal.

Las cajas de luz que les presento, no son sólo obras mías, sino de todas las personasque deseen “jugar” con ellas. Están diseñadas para que los colores y la intensidadde la luz cambie en función del gusto o del estado de ánimo de quien las contempla.Pretenden ser piezas universales, compartidas, con las que todos saquemos el artistaque llevamos dentro.

Observar, imaginar, plasmar, crear, emocionar, eso es todo lo que deseo.

The need of the human being to create, to express, has left us a collection of mas-terpieces.

The reason leading to design and create a piece of art, to model clay, to paint orchisel stone, is always the same: to express our feelings, our thoughts, our phi-losophy of life.

My way of expression has to do with the light. At a time when continuous techno-logical changes invade us, I have decided to bring back materials considered aswaste and by changing them I intend to bring them back to life which gives me aparticular feeling of fulfillment.

I identify myself with my work, with the changing colours, with the singularity ofeach piece, with the possibility of interaction and ultimately, with the possibility ofhaving something unique in my hands with which to develop a personal relationship.

The light boxes presented below are not only my work, but the work of everyonewho wishes to "play" with them. They are designed so that the colours and intensityof the light may vary depending on the taste or the mood of the person contem-plating them. These pieces are universal, shared, allowing everyone to bring out theartist within.

To watch, imagine, express, create, thrill, that’s all I want.

El ser humano es capaz de amoldarse a cada situación. Cada día es distinto, nuestros sen-timientos varían, pero el color de nuestro pensamiento se mantiene. Cambiamos la apa-riencia en función de las circunstancias que vivimos.

The human being is capable to adapt to any situation. Each day is different, our feelingschange, but the color of our thoughts is unaltered. We change our appearance dependingon the circumstances.

¿Qué es Q? Para unos el magazine más importante del mundo de bandas de música, para otros un per-sonaje de ficción o una novela. Para mí, Q es la síntesis del color, la lujuria de los sentidos,pero sobre todo, Q representa la gran incógnita.

What does Q stand for? For some people Q is the most important music magazine, for others a fiction character ora novel. For me, Q is the synthesis of colour, the lust of senses. But above all, Q is thegreat Question.
