M1 cook up a treat This week in Design Technology, M1 created the three course meal they have been investigating, designing and planning for the past few weeks. There were several opportunities for on-the-spot problem solving that the students handled admirably and the bonus was, the meal was delicious! Thank you to parents for donating a major part of the ingredients. Also thank you to Adele Burger who planned and facilitated this unit- Adele completed a teaching practicum with us on Friday… you will be missed.

Scholastic Book Club http://world.clubs-school.scholastic.co.uk/int-sch-moshi-arusha-campus

Orders close on Friday September 27th.Order online or by returning your form and money to the Finance Office.

Want an excuse to not wear your uniform to school? Friday, September 27th Primary Student Council has organized a dress-up day under the theme of: “Teacher-Student Swap”. Join us as students dress up as teachers and teachers dress like students!

Inquiry in the IT Lab The Early Childhood class were asked “How can we draw on the computer without a pencil?” They said that the mouse can’t draw anything, not even a line. When they started using the mouse for drawing and coloring pictures they enjoyed the activities and were excited to see their creations appear on the screen. EC work with Christine Matemu in the IT Lab twice a week.

for EC-P6, the other for M1-M5. • The Primary event will be on Tuesday, the 1st of October, starting at

approximately 8.15am and it will conclude prior to lunch time. • The Secondary event will take place on Thursday, the 3rd of October,

adapted where necessary to suit their age group. • In both the Primary and Secondary sections of the school, students have

been focusing on developing the skills applicable to a range of both track and field events. Running, jumping, throwing and of course sportsmanship have all been a part of the programme.

• We will provide further details in next week’s newsletter

Best wishes, Matthew Hendriks Co-Curricular Activities/Sports Coordinator If there are any parents who would be able to give some time on either day, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Matthew Hendriks [email protected]

Outdoor Pursuits (OP) ISM is proud of our structured and extensive Outdoor Pursuits programme giving all our secondary students opportunities to face the challenge of a demanding range of outdoor activities in our superb environment centred on Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru. Our OP trips are organised into levels and students are expected to begin at Level One – each is only allowed to progress to a higher level after successful completion of a trip. All student groups are accompanied by a qualified guide and by teaching staff from the two campuses, who are also expected to progress through the same levels themselves. Students are expected to carry all their own equipment and a share of the group equipment and food.

The Outdoor Pursuits department is well-equipped with a wide range of camping and mountaineering equipment and clothing that is updated and replaced as necessary. Good relations are enjoyed by the school with the Tanzanian National Parks Authority who in turn are enthusiastic in their support of our activities. A well-established programme of graded mountaineering expeditions to Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru and elsewhere exist to provide training for students in mountain craft, teamwork and in leadership skills.
