Principal’s Greetings 校长前言 Our school will commemorate National Day on Monday, 8 August 2016. This year, National Day Celebration is a very special one for all of us. Firstly, 2016 marks the first of the next fifty years of our Singapore Story. Secondly, the National Day Parade will return home to the National Stadium for the first time in ten years. We believe that this first National Day Parade in the new iconic Singapore Sports Hub will be a life time memoir for many of us, especially for our Primary 5 pupils who attended the NE Show. This year’s NDP theme, “Building our Singapore of Tomorrow”, calls on all Singaporeans to remain strong and work towards Singapore’s future as one people. In school, we instil in pupils the importance of solidarity and teamwork. No matter how great we are alone, we will always be greater together as one people. Our current strong financial standing and the impressive affluent skyline will not ensure Singapore’s future success. However, when we stand up to the call as one people and build on the contributions and sacrifices of our pioneers, we will surely be able to create long-term value for all and lift Singapore to great years ahead. Let us chart the next chapter of our Singapore Story and shape our Singapore of Tomorrow together. Principal’s Greetings 校长前言

Our school will commemorate National Day on Monday, 8 August 2016. This year,

National Day Celebration is a very special one for all of us.

This year’s NDP theme, “Building our Singapore of Tomorrow”, calls on all Singaporeans

to remain strong and work towards Singapore’s future as one people.

CONVERSATIONAL FOREIGN LANGUAGE FOR BEGINNERS (OPTIONAL) Every year, Pei Chun conducts Conversational Malay Language (CML) lessons as part of the school’s post-exam activities for all P3 and P4 pupils to enhance social interaction. Our pupils enjoy the CML lessons as they learn the Malay language and appreciate the Malay culture. In addition to Conversational Malay Language, our school is also offering our P4 pupils the opportunity to enrich themselves by learning basic conversational French or Japanese. The lessons will be taught by vendors. Pupils will get to learn basic French and Japanese phrases, alphabet and greetings. Details such as fees and dates will be given in an upcoming Parent Notification.

EDUSAVE CHARACTER AWARD (ECHA) NOMINATION 2016 The Ministry of Education introduced the Edusave Character Award (ECHA) in 2012 to enable schools to recognise pupils who demonstrate exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities through their behaviour and actions. This is part of the larger goal to foster an inclusive and stronger Singapore as we broaden the qualities and achievements to be encouraged and applauded. ECHA is also aligned to our school’s efforts towards nurturing pupils of good values and character. We would like to invite our parents and pupils to be involved in the nomination process of our school’s ECHA awardees in 2016.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 1. The nominee is a Singapore citizen. 2. The nominee is a role model in her/his conduct (behaviours and actions) and attitude. 3. The nominee has demonstrated clearly aspects of the school’s vision (Passionate and Cultured

Learners. Proactive and Caring Leaders) and values (Courtesy, Justice, Honesty and Honour).

NOMINATION: Nominations are open to pupils, staff, and parents. Nomination forms for parents and pupils can be obtained from the General Office. You may also download the nomination form from our school’s website. Please refer to PN 78/16 for more information.

CHANGES TO THE PSLE SCORING AND SECONDARY ONE POSTING FROM 2021 On 13 July 2016, MOE issued a press release on the changes to the PSLE scoring and Secondary One (S1) posting, to be implemented from the 2021 PSLE cohort (currently in Primary 1). The changes are part of MOE’s efforts to nurture well-rounded individuals by reducing the overemphasis on academic results and giving individuals more space to discover and develop their strengths and interests. 2016 MOTHER TONGUE LANGUAGES (MTL) SYMPOSIUM The Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) Symposium is an annual event organised to showcase how MTL learning can be a fun and fulfilling journey of discovery for young children. The theme for this year is “A Garden for Joyful Discoveries”. We are pleased to inform that Pei Chun has been selected by MOE to showcase our innovative practices of infusing ICT into curriculum teaching at the Symposium this year. The Symposium will be held on Saturday, 20 Aug 2016, from 11 am to 8 pm at the Suntec Singapore Exhibition and Convention Centre. It will feature 28 sharing sessions and workshops, and 43 exhibition booths in total. Admission is free and the first 5,000 visitors will receive a goody bag each. Registration for the sharing sessions and workshops is now open to the public at www.mtls.com.sg on a first-come-first-served basis. Parents are strongly encouraged to visit the website for the list of activities and exhibitions at the Symposium.

TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATIONS The school will be celebrating Teachers’ Day on Thu, 1 September 2016. On that day, some pupils will put up performances to show their appreciation to their teachers and showcase their talents. Others may make cards or give notes of affirmation to their teachers. These are some simple but meaningful ways pupils can consider to express their appreciations to their teachers.

Please take note of the following events in the month of August.
