Principal’s Greetings 校长前言 83 rd FOUNDERS’ DAY - Embracing the Next Phase This year, the school will commemorate our 83 rd Founders’ Day on Friday, 13 May 2016. It will be followed by a fund-raising dinner on Saturday, 14 May 2016. When I reflect on the challenges faced by our founders in setting up the school, I cannot help but feel a deep sense of admiration for their commitment to the community. With limited resources, they had to decide what would make the greatest impact to the community over the decades to come. They decided that improving the literacy of our children was the way to a better life for future generations. It is this unwavering commitment to the community that has led them to overcome the countless challenges over the years. From 90 students schooling in a shop house at Tanglin Road to an enrolment of approximately 2060 pupils and 120 staff in a campus housing 2 indoor sports halls, numerous classrooms and special rooms, we have certainly come a long way. This year, the commemoration of our Founders’ Day has taken on an added significance as we prepare for our shift to our holding site at the end of this year. Hence, we have specially chosen the theme ’Embracing the Next Phase’ ( 喜迎乔迁,蓄势待发) as this year’s theme to signify the school’s progress to the next phase of our development. This shift marks an important milestone in our school’s journey as we look forward to the addition of new facilities at our current school site. With the enhanced infrastructure, Pei Chun will be well positioned to enrich the learning experiences of our pupils so as to achieve the school’s mission of providing a holistic education. We are the only school in Singapore with a school name bearing the word ‘public’. It clearly signifies the wishes and intents of our founders – a school started by the community for the community. To reaffirm the intent of our founders, we look forward to receiving your fullest support for our fund-raising dinner. All proceeds from the dinner will contribute to our School Building Fund. With your kindness and generosity, I am confident that Pei Chun will continue to live up to its name and our founders’ vision of providing quality education for future generations.

Founders’ Day Celebrations during Curricular hours (八十三周年校庆) on

13 May 2016 The school will commemorate our 83rd Founders’ Day during curricular hours on Friday, 13 May 2016. There will be exciting performances put up by our various CCA groups. Pupils and staff will observe

normal school hours that day.

83rd Founders’ Day Dinner (八十三周年校庆晚宴) on 14 May 2016

The school would like to extend our invitation to all parents to join us for our fund-raising dinner between 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm on Saturday, 14 May 2016. The Chairman of our School Management Committee (SMC), Dr Chau Sik Ting (BBM, PBM), will be our Guest-of-Honour. You can look forward to viewing items put up for this year’s Singapore Youth Festival by our Performing Arts groups (Chinese Orchestra, Chinese Dance and Choir). In addition, our Wushu Team will also be showcasing their martial arts. Come and support our pupils! We would like to thank parents who have purchased tickets for the dinner. Our SMC has kindly sponsored tables for our retired teachers to show our appreciation for their dedication to education. In celebrating this joyous occasion, we also have not forgotten our senior citizens in our community. Our teachers have generously purchased tickets for the senior citizens from the Care Corner Senior Activity Centre so that they can join us in our celebrations. We hope that more parents can come and support us in our fund-raising dinner. Tickets for the dinner are priced at $100 and $200 each. They can be purchased at the General Office (through your child / ward). All proceeds from the dinner will contribute to the School Building Fund.

BIODIVERSITY WEEK 2016 Biodiversity Week (Mon 16/5 – Fri 27/5) is a school event held in conjunction with the ‘Leave No Child Inside Programme’ (LNCI). During the week, all P4 students will learn about the varied biodiversity in the school compound through quizzes, mini learning trips and personal reflection activities as part of their curricular activities. To help the rest of the levels acquire knowledge on biodiversity around them, booths will also be set up at the Eureka Hub for pupils to learn about interesting facts about plants. Upon successful completion of the activities for the week, each pupil will receive a challenge badge.

Use-your-Hand Campaign – 26 May As part of our school’s Values-in-Action (ViA) programme, all pupils

will be participating in the bi-annual ‘Use-Your-Hand Campaign’ on 26 May, Thursday 2016. All pupils are to be in PE attire and bring along a piece of rag for this activity on that day. As this is the last day of the School Term, all pupils are reminded to bring along recyclable bags to clear their belongings from their lockers. In addition to our twice-a-year ‘Use Your Hands Campaign’, we have also started our ‘Keep the School Clean Movement (KSCM)’ where pupils are expected to take greater ownership of the cleanliness of the school and
