筑波大学の目指す大学院教育－大学院共通科目の開設－Graduate General Education Courses Program – Graduate Education that University of Tsukuba aspires to.

NAGATA Kyosuke, President, University of Tsukuba筑波大学長　永田恭介　科学と技術の進歩は、社会に大きな発展をもたらしてきました。しかし、一方でグローバル化した社会は激動し、地球規模で共有しなければならないような数多くの問題をも発生させてきました。また、人の健康と幸福をもたらす「超スマート社会」を目指して、我が国は「society 5.0」を含む基本計画を推進しようとしています。基本的な大学のミッション、すなわち知の創造と人材育成が大きく変わったわけではありませんから、今、大学に求められているのは、このような背景を認識し、地球規模課題の解決と地球社会の尚いっそうの発展に資する知の創造とそれを率先する人材育成だと考えられます。　時を同じくして、国際的な通用性と信頼性の向上に向けて大学院教育の質の保証がもとめられています。大学院教育においては「専門力」の涵養が重要であることは言うまでもありません。しかし、自立しリーダーシップを発揮する人材となるためには、「人間力」を育むことも大切です。本学は、大学院に求められる人材養成機能を明確化し、「専門力」と「人間力」を育むために組織的にその機能強化に取り組んできました。その一つが、この「大学院共通科目」の設定です。グローバル社会で活躍し、超スマート社会を実現するためには、大学院修了者にもそれにふさわしい教養が求められます。「大学院共通科目」は、「大学院生にふさわしい教養科目」と捉えることもできるかもしれません。　本大学院共通科目の履修を通して、「専門力」と「人間力」に磨きをかけて、地球と地球社会のために大いに活躍できる基盤を整えられることを期待しています。

The advancement of science and technology promoted the full development of a humane society. Conversely, our globalized society is facing numerous problems and challenges that have to be deliberated and solved throughout the entire world. In addition, our country aims to realize the “Super Smart Society” beneficial to human health and well-being, by promoting a basic plan including the concept of “Society 5.0”. In the ever-changing society, the mission of universities remains the same as to foster knowledge creation and human resources. Universities are required to understand and respond to the current social needs, to impart wisdom in developing solutions to global issues and creating sustainable future for humankind as well as to nurture professionals who exercise strong leadership.

At the same time, improvement of the quality of graduate school education is essential toward achieving global and ethical standards. To acquire professional knowledge and skills, needless to say, is the fundamental academic goal in graduate school education. Moreover, these acquired rich human qualities are vital to be a leader. University of Tsukuba clarified social needs and set up the system to foster professional skills and human qualities. The GGEC program is definitely one of our systematic approaches to the goal. To play an active part in a global society, and to realize the Super Smart Society, those who completed the graduate courses should have cultural accomplishments. The GGEC program nurtures graduates who possess practical thinking and fundamental skills to create added value for the future.

The GGEC program is expected to endow students with professional skills and a rich sense of humanity, cultivate fundamental skills for sustainable future global society.

　東日本大震災やユーロをはじめとする世界的な経済財政問題の危機的状況に直面する中で、国や企業、世界機関においても「リーダーシップのある人材（リーダー）」への期待が高まっています。リーダーシップは、単なるノウハウの学習からではなく、「人間としての基礎知力、高いモチベーション、実践を可能とする技術的バックグラウンド」を身につける地道な努力の結果、個の中に自ずと醸成されてくるものです。大学院共通科目は、正に、その実現のための必須栄養素を供給し、受講生の「人間力」を強化・涵養するもので、筑波大学の大学院教育を特徴づける人材養成カリキュラムです。積極的な受講を期待します。

Today the world is in crisis. In Japan we have seen a cataclysmic event - the Great East Japan Earthquake, and world over a financial crisis including the Euro so severe, that countries, enterprises, and international institutions need professionals who possess leadership. Leadership is fostered not merely by studying know-how but through continuing determined effort to learn “fundamental skills required for all human beings, strong motivation and a technical background for practice”. Leadership, as a result, will be asserted. GGEC program is thus aimed at providing the essential “nutrition” in this process and to enhance rich human qualities. It is a unique curriculum of cultivating professionals and your affirmative attendance is highly recommended.

SHIMIZU Satoshi, Vice President for Education, University of Tsukuba教育担当副学長　清水　諭　筑波大学大学院には8研究科合わせて約6,700名の大学院生が在籍しています。その半数は他大学出身者や留学生で占められ、様々な人間がそれぞれの専門分野を学ぶ「知の拠点です。」。本大学院では、汎用智（汎用的な知識）と専門智（専門的な知識）がベストマッチングして醸成される総合智によって、バランスのとれた豊かな人間性をもった人材の育成を目指しています。そのため、本大学院特有の「大学院共通科目」を教育カリキュラムに導入しています。それによって、専門智科目と汎用智科目を双方向的かつ有機的に統合し、高度な専門力を生かして社会の様々な領域で幅広く活躍できる「豊かな人間性と倫理性を身に着けた高度な専門力を有する人材」を育成します。大学院共通科目は、このような総合智教育の中核をなす教育カリキュラムとして、本学大学院教育の柱として機能しています。

The Graduate School of the University of Tsukuba is a focal point of knowledge for almost 6,700 students, half of whom graduated from other domestic and from foreign universities, and who each belong to one of eight intra-disciplinary programs. Graduate students need to not only polish their specialty knowledge but also be a person with a rich sense of humanity and high ethical standards. The GGEC was initiated at the University of Tsukuba to provide an education curriculum unique in Japan. In the GGEC, students gain a wealth of knowledge and also the wisdom to acquire specialized, versatile and comprehensive learning techniques. The GGEC program is particularly useful for integrating both specialized and versatile knowledge together as the core of comprehensive education in the University of Tsukuba.

The aim of the Graduate General Education Courses (GGEC) is to enhance the quality, to develop the ability and to nurture rich humanity, known as “Nin-gen-ryoku”. Academicians in the university need to contribute to the society by acknowledging responsibility as leaders both at present and in future. All Tsukuba graduates need to be aware of the importance of satisfying such social needs and to play important roles in the society on the basis of their excellent “Nin-gen-ryoku”.

The GGEC program provides attractive courses for fostering your cultural accomplishments and integrity which are coupled with professional skills for leading you to be well-balanced human beings as researchers, academicians, specialists, etc. Based on the basic knowledge and skills acquired during your undergraduate courses will be strongly polished and developed to fulfill your potential for stepping up to next stage. After obtaining a Master/Ph.D. degree, you will become an excellent academic person who is able to respond flexibly and sensibly to various social needs by successfully developing your career.

1. A multidisciplinary general education program opened for all University of Tsukuba (UT) graduates.

2. Most unique graduate education program among Japanese universities based on its inception that was proposed by a voluntary GGEC Working Group, not university headquarters, in 2007 and its managing and credit system that guarantee credits required for graduation and degree awarding.

3. Managed by the GGEC Committee composed of professors with diverse disciplines and works for daily management and improving the program.

Goals4. Nurture of intelligent professionals with proactive attitudes,

management-oriented minds, integrity, as well as communication and socializing skills, namely nurturing high “Nin-gen-ryoku”.

5. Designed and implemented in cooperation with faculties across various disciplines to promote the abilities of independent thinking, professionalism, and character building.

6. Building highly motivated mind for becoming specialists in academic fields and highly professional careers.

Courses & Events7. Composition of seven main areas: Life, environment, academic

integrity; Academic management skills; Distributing information, Communication skills; Retaining internationalized characters; Career management; Intellectual foundation Courses; and Building strong physical body and mental strength.

8. Comprising 84 subjects closely associated with rapidly changing social and global needs and student’s future prospects.

9. Many classes taught in English for promoting mixing of Japanese and foreign students in a class, resulting in improving “Communication Skills” and “Mutual understanding” which are essential factors for being active person in rapidly globalized world.

It has always been a long-life dream of mine to visit Jamaica. The culture, the food, the weather, and the landscape have attracted me for a long time. At the same time, I wanted to experience the real life on the island and the working environment in the country of Reggae instead of just visiting as a tourist and spending all my time in a resort or on guided tours. What is a better way than an internship to achieve that? My main interest in my field of studies is Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Upon some research and with the help of a Jamaican friend and fellow international student at the university I managed to find a good fit for my interests and abilities. The company where I had the opportunity to intern for a month is called 'Spatial Innovision Limited (SIL)'. SIL is the leading GPS and GIS solutions center of the Caribbean. SIL is collaborating on a broad array of various projects thanks to having numerous clients in the public and private sector. Besides offering technical support, SIL also helps with data making and analysis, policy making and consulting.

During the first week of my internship, I was assigned the writhing of a document about the financial benefits of implementing GIS solutions. The target organization was the housing agency of Jamaica (HAJ). HAJ requested the assistance of SIL to implement GIS solutions. Upon several seminars organized by SIL and the draft of an implementation proposal HAJ and SIL almost reached an agreement. However, recent reports have shown that HAJ has lost significant amounts of money due mainly to poor governance and weak project management. This revelation has lead HAJ to indeterminably postpone the implementation project of GIS. Accordingly, SIL decided to add a small chapter to its proposal to showcase the cost benefits of implementing GIS. In order to write this chapter, I had to first read the first proposal from which I learned how such proposals are formulated and what does the client and the supplier mostly care about. Such documents are not present in the academic context. Thus, regardless of using GIS on multiple occasions, this was my first opportunity to closely examine such document and actually help draft a part of it.

In the following weeks, I was assigned to draft a document to lay the roadmap of the selection of the site of a third city in Jamaica. Due to its geographic location, Jamaica is prone to multiple natural hazards such as hurricanes, sea level rise, etc. Thanks to this task I learned about Multi-Criterion Decision Analysis and the Analytical Hierarchy Process in site-selection. To draft the documents, I needed to state the said criterions for site selection which allowed me to learn more about the geologic, geographic and socio-demographic characteristics of Jamaica and also what type of spatial data is available in Jamaica and related details.

On a few occasions, I could participate in meetings. I was able to give feedback during the preparation of a webinar about GIS and the latest advances in GIS applications that was broadcast free of charge every week for 6 weeks and had more than 100 highly interactive participants every time from different neighboring countries. I could take part in a meeting with STATIN, the statistical institute of Jamaica. The meeting was part of a series of meetings intended to introduce the potential advantages of introducing GIS applications (Surveyor123, Collector, Portal, Insight, etc.) to the workflow of STATIN to optimize their tasks and promote new products and collaborations. Another meeting was with LICJ (The Land Information Council of Jamaica) as part of the preparation for the GIS user conference. Having taken part in the Japanese version of the conference on numerous occasions, I was able to compare the two countries in terms of the intended content, type of sessions, guests and the overall planning. In both countries I could say that the conference is of high significance and level and the content is more relevant to the needs and characteristics of each country.

Having interned in Japan before, I could also compare the workplace of the two countries. In Jamaica, the atmosphere is more relaxed, the employees take time to have their lunch, never eat at their desks, chat with each other during work time about subjects unrelated to work, and rarely work overtime. They took the time to tell me about their lives, job descriptions and how they feel about it, the culture and the lifestyle in the country. While interning in Japan I only got the chance to speak to co-workers on the farewell dinner, as people were more concentrated on their work during working hours. It is difficult to say which working style is better but I think each has its perks and both reflect a cultural aspect of the country.

Outside of work I had the chance to experience the life in a Jamaican household, meet people from various social backgrounds and ages. I found out that even though the official language of the country is English, outside of work most people prefer to speak Patois, an English-based creole language with West African influences, which I barely understand. This was challenging as I could not randomly participate in conversations and was lightheartedly made fun of sometimes. I was lucky enough to experience the exotic local food: most tastes were completely new to me and it was a delight to add new shades to the array of tastes I know.

Interested in a certain country? Nothing is better than an international internship to teach you everything you want to know about the country and more! At least it did for me.

Internship at Spatial Innovision Limited (Jamaica)-the leading GIS and GPS solutions center of the Caribbean-

学類4年生の際にヌエバエシハ州での留学および卒業研究を経験し、さらに大学院に進学してから、「フィリピンにおける植林プログラムに向けた苗木生産および地域住民の生計への影響」というタイトルの元、研究を進めてきました。大学院共通科目「国際研究プロジェクト」に応募・履修したことにより、単位として活動が認められ研究に対するモチベーションを高めることができ、また、大学から経済的な支援も頂いたことで現地において充実した調査を行うことができました。

フィリピンは以前深刻な森林破壊を経験しましたが、近年森林面積は増加しつつあります。National Greening Program (以下NGP)は2011年から2016年にフィリピン政府が主導した植林プログラムで、150万haの荒廃した土地におよそ14億本もの苗木が植えられました。では、これほどの苗木を誰が生産しているのだろうか？そして生産者たちは地域とどのように関わり合ってきたのだろうか？ここが私の研究の出発点でした。フィリピンにおける小規模苗木生産者に関する先行研究は限られ、またNGPが生み出した苗木需要にどう彼らが対応しているかという情報は乏しかったため、苗木生産者たちの関係性を明らかにすることが本研究の目的でした。

調査を行うにあたって、以前留学していたCentral Luzon State University(以下CLSU)にて事前準備を整え、政府のローカルオフィスにて現地の森林に関する統計資料を入手しました。提携校であるCLSUにおいて先生方から研究に関するサポートを頂くことができ、スムースに調査村に向かうことができました。現地では生産者・非生産者を対象として、質問表を用いたインタビューを40名に対して行い、主に生計、苗木生産の現状や制約、また供給者同士の関係性を中心にして聞き取りを行いました。調査村には、政府に認可された大規模苗木業者と彼らに苗木を供給する小規模苗木業者が存在し、大規模生産者は全国で実施されるNGPの植林プロジェクトに対し、入札に参加することで苗木を供給していました。大規模生産者は小規模生産者から安価な値段で苗木を買い取ることで需要を満たしていましたが、小規模生産者は彼らから搾取されていました。その一方で、専攻研究と比較しても、苗木生産用の土地・種子は調査村において入手し易く、土地なし農民でも苗木生産に参入できることがわかりました。季節労働者として村外で働く必要性がなくなり、苗木生産は土地なし農民の貧困削減に寄与していることが示唆され、農村での1つの生計手段になり得る可能性がありました。このような現地でしかわかり得ない情報を手に入れることができたのも、国際研究プロジェクトのおかげであったと思います。

　院生になった皆さん、卒業研究の発表はいかがだったでしょうか。私の場合、胸を張ってよかったと言える出来ではありませんでした。人前でスライドを使ったプレゼンを行うのは卒業研究がほとんど初めてで、どうすれば「良い」発表になるのか全くわかっていなかったからです。私と同じ経験をした方は多いのではないでしょうか。良いプレゼンのやり方を身に着けたい。あわよくば自分に合った手法がいい。そんな方にお勧めしたい講義がザ・プレゼンテーション（01ZZ314）です。　私は2年間、TAとしてこの講義に参加しました。こちらは胸を張って言えます、本当に面白くかつ役立つ講義であると。まず、オムニバス形式で先生に登壇していただくので、様々なプレゼン手法を見ることができます。研究者然とした固めのプレゼンはもちろん、研究者らしからぬ型破りなものまで、まさに多士済々。しかも先生方の専攻も様々で、他分野の研究発表を聴ける貴重な場とも言えます。私はどうやったら他分野の難しい話をわかりやすく説明できるだろうかと自分で考えるのが好きでした。そして、基本的なプレゼンのテクニックはもちろん、各々先生方がプレゼン資料を作るときに何を思うのかまでぎっしり詰まっています。盛り上げ方を意識する人やメッセージを一つに絞る人、一体どれが自分に合った手法なのか。　卒業研究が終わったのもつかの間、次は学会発表、就活、そして就職後もきっとプレゼン三昧。伝える技術は今のうちに身に着けるのが絶対にお得です。

Amey Kulkarni (Graduate School of Comprehensive Human sciences)It was my great pleasure to have taken the GGEC course of Global

Communication Skill Training during first year of my Master’s here at Tsukuba University. The fellow students in this course came from a variety of academic backgrounds which made the learning and discussion more interesting. One of the best parts of the course was listening to the real-life industrial experiences of former top officials of big companies such as Intel Inc. KK Japan (Tsukuba) and relating it with various communication styles. I would highly recommend this course for any student who wants to improve or get informed about the communication styles. In today’s competitive world, inter-personal communication plays a very crucial role in leading successful career and this course surely provides the much needed information on communication as well as on presentation.

ZHOU YANG（Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences）Attending GGEC class is a very meaningful and fruitful experience

to me. This year I took 2 GGEC classes, one is about research, which I conducted an international research project of tomato in Hungary. And the other one is about career, the JAPIC lessons, which I learned about the changes in the future society with the development of Globalization and advanced technology. By attending these 2 classes, I further improved my skill both in research and social verbal communication, and also expand my view of present-day society for playing an active role in the international community in the future. I wish more and more students can experience these classes in the next year!

Allam ALKAZEI (Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering) The Graduate General Education Courses (GGEC) provided by

University of Tsukuba give the opportunity for graduate students from different majors to meet and interacts in an encouraging and interactive atmosphere. The courses tackle various topics such as management, environment, communication and even sports which allows the students to choose courses which fit their interest. At the start of my graduate studies, I attended English Presentation Course and Scientific Writing Course which helped me improve my academic and research skills. In addition, I had the chance to visit work environment and interact with professionals at Intel Inc.’s branch in Tsukuba by attending the Global Communication Skills Training Course which provided me with practical experience and a deeper insight of team communication skills. I recommend graduate students to take part in the GGEC in order for them to enrich their student experience and sharpen their skills.

鶴岡靖也（システム情報工学研究科　社会工学専攻）

　筑波大学の「大学院共通科目」の特徴として、普段の授業では学ぶことのできない内容を学べる、興味さえあれば自由に受講できる、様々なバックグラウンドを持つ学生や先生と交流できる環境が整っていることが挙げられます。実際に私も受講することで、自身の知識を深めることや新たな知識と出会うことのできる良い機会だと感じました。私が受講した「Research and Management Skills」は、国籍や学科、専攻の異なるメンバーがほとんどであり、その中で自身の研究計画や研究の面白さを伝えることを通じて、様々な発見や出会い、交流を行うことができました。各々の学生が考えている研究に対する動機や取り組み方、また不安や目標などを共有することで今後の自分の研究に対しての大きな参考になりました。これから論文を書く人にとっては、どのように研究を進めていけば良いかといった不安や疑問点を解決できるような内容になっており、学生や先生から研究の進め方について様々なアドバイスを頂きたい方に推奨します。　是非、受講されてみてはいかがでしょうか？

邨田真優（人間総合科学研究科　体育学専攻）

　大学院共通科目には様々な分野の科目がありますが、身心のリフレッシュに役立つ「ヨーガコース」を受講しました。実技では、呼吸法を伴ったストレッチや瞑想を行いました。体の柔軟性が向上し心身ともにリラックスすることができました。受講する前と比べ、精神的に落ち着き、不安や焦り、イライラすることが減ったように感じます。また、ヨーガの歴史や精神などの講義もありヨーガについて深く知ることができました。身心のリラックス法としてヨーガは、日常生活にはもちろん、体育学専攻の私にとってはスポーツ競技の場面でも利用できると感じました。自分を見つめなおす貴重な時間となり、今後の自分にプラスとなる経験となりました。

齊藤優花 (システム情報工学研究科社会工学専攻)

　筑波大学では様々な大学院共通科目が開講されています。異なる分野を専攻する学生同士が関わり会える機会も多いです。私が選んだ科目は「国際研究プロジェクト」であり、日本以外の国での研究活動をサポートして頂ける授業でした。私は本科目を通じてマレーシアにて約1ヶ月の間、自身の修士論文のテーマであった現地の建築や都市に関わる調査をしました。経済面で支援して頂いたことで、まとまった期間滞在でき、より幅広い情報を得ることができたと考えております。

永瀨麻梨凜 (人間総合科学研究科体育学専攻)

　昨年の発表会での『ドン・キホーテ』を拝見し、『私も来年はこの場で踊りたい』と思ったことが、この授業を受講したきっかけです。私は昔、バレエや新体操を習っていましたが、しばらくそのような世界から離れていました。そのため、バレエは決まったポジションをとらなければならない点、ステップや腕の使い方の細かい点など、バレエにしかない難しさや魅力を、今だからこそ、感じることが出来たと思います。また、今回の花のワルツのような群舞によって、周りを感じて踊る、という貴重は経験も出来ました。群舞ならではの雰囲気を皆で創り上げるのも非常に楽しいものでした。バレエは『幼少期の習い事』というイメージが強いと思いますが、国立大の一般体育で受講できるのは、非常に恵まれた環境なのではないでしょうか。折角の機会です。バレエを通して、日常生活では感じられないことを体験してみませんか？

細井大輔 (システム情報工学研究科社会工学専攻)

　国際研究プロジェクトの一環で夏季休業期間中にフランスとモロッコへ渡航し、修士論文の研究のための調査を行いました。内容は両国の住宅団地の歴史を対象とした文献調査と現地調査であり、このプロジェクトが無ければ円滑に研究を進められなかったと非常に感謝しております。本プロジェクトから渡航費・滞在費の金銭的な支援をいただいただけでなく、調査企画の精査を通じて自分の調査スケジュールのマネジメントをすることができました。みなさんも是非受講してみてください。

早稲田隆司（人間総合科学研究科　スポーツ国際開発学共同専攻）

　今回、大学院共通科目の一環としてインドのNaz Foundation India TrustというNGOで1ヶ月間インターンシップをする機会を頂きました。この団体は現地の学校で、女子生徒を対象としたスポーツ教育を通し、同時に性教育やライフスキルなどの社会的教育も提供しており、そこでのプロジェクトマネジメントや社会的インパクトの評価分析を学修させていただきました。GGECでは資金的な援助のみならず、インターンシップという貴重な経験へと踏み込むための後押しをして頂いたのみならず、グローバルな人材として、メールでの受入許可願いから、計画作り、現地のプロジェクトに関する英語での議論など多くの経験を積ませていただき、本当に感謝しております。

学類4年生の際にヌエバエシハ州での留学および卒業研究を経験し、さらに大学院に進学してから、「フィリピンにおける植林プログラムに向けた苗木生産および地域住民の生計への影響」というタイトルの元、研究を進めてきました。大学院共通科目「国際研究プロジェクト」に応募・履修したことにより、単位として活動が認められ研究に対するモチベーションを高めることができ、また、大学から経済的な支援も頂いたことで現地において充実した調査を行うことができました。

フィリピンは以前深刻な森林破壊を経験しましたが、近年森林面積は増加しつつあります。National Greening Program (以下NGP)は2011年から2016年にフィリピン政府が主導した植林プログラムで、150万haの荒廃した土地におよそ14億本もの苗木が植えられました。では、これほどの苗木を誰が生産しているのだろうか？そして生産者たちは地域とどのように関わり合ってきたのだろうか？ここが私の研究の出発点でした。フィリピンにおける小規模苗木生産者に関する先行研究は限られ、またNGPが生み出した苗木需要にどう彼らが対応しているかという情報は乏しかったため、苗木生産者たちの関係性を明らかにすることが本研究の目的でした。

調査を行うにあたって、以前留学していたCentral Luzon State University(以下CLSU)にて事前準備を整え、政府のローカルオフィスにて現地の森林に関する統計資料を入手しました。提携校であるCLSUにおいて先生方から研究に関するサポートを頂くことができ、スムースに調査村に向かうことができました。現地では生産者・非生産者を対象として、質問表を用いたインタビューを40名に対して行い、主に生計、苗木生産の現状や制約、また供給者同士の関係性を中心にして聞き取りを行いました。調査村には、政府に認可された大規模苗木業者と彼らに苗木を供給する小規模苗木業者が存在し、大規模生産者は全国で実施されるNGPの植林プロジェクトに対し、入札に参加することで苗木を供給していました。大規模生産者は小規模生産者から安価な値段で苗木を買い取ることで需要を満たしていましたが、小規模生産者は彼らから搾取されていました。その一方で、専攻研究と比較しても、苗木生産用の土地・種子は調査村において入手し易く、土地なし農民でも苗木生産に参入できることがわかりました。季節労働者として村外で働く必要性がなくなり、苗木生産は土地なし農民の貧困削減に寄与していることが示唆され、農村での1つの生計手段になり得る可能性がありました。このような現地でしかわかり得ない情報を手に入れることができたのも、国際研究プロジェクトのおかげであったと思います。

Global Negotiation and International Dialogue – TEMUN(01ZZ321, 01ZZ331, 01ZZ341)Tsuyoshi KIDA (Humanities and Social Sciences)

TEMUN is an English workshop in the form of Model United Nations held on the Tsukuba campus to discuss Global Issues like SDGs in learning diplomatic language and behavior. To get trained in interdisciplinary literacy and global negotiation skills, participants come various majors inside as well as outside of the Tsukuba Campus each year. So TEMUN is also an occasion to extend and build up a new network of people. The courses are implemented on weekends for all students of the whole campus to take part in it. Although communication skills are important for any situations, global negotiations in the international settings (companies, institutes of research, etc.) require supplementary skills and specific types of behavior and mindset for reaching mutual understanding and building a consensus.

graduate students to become versatile and multitalented individuals. With a large range of courses covering academic topics, personal skill development, and sports activities, the program is an excellent opportunity for students wishing to broaden their knowledge, skills and experience beyond the specifics of their own particular discipline. A number of GGEC courses cover communication skills—and for good reason. Good communication skills are generally considered a desirable, if not essential quality for success, whether in business, the government sector, or academia. English Presentation Practice is one such course, and aims to help students nurture the skills needed to plan and deliver an effective presentation. Whether presenting complex ideas, demonstrating the merits of a new plan, or motivating people to take action, well-developed speaking skills and a clear approach to planning will dramatically improve the chance of a successful outcome. Students in this course usually make great improvements in their presentation skills, and are often surprised by what they can achieve with a little care and effort.

DeMar TAYLOR (Life and Environmental Sciences)Effectively communicating results of scientific research is essential for

progress in science. Often researchers struggle with getting their work published, but knowledge of basic rules and skills can help overcome some of these barriers. “Scientific Writing in English-Practice” is designed to provide knowledge of the basic rules and skills for writing a paper for publication in an English language scientific journal. This course focuses on the format of a scientific paper, preparing effective figures and tables, and grammatical rules for more effective writing. The course is highly informative because it discusses each aspect of writing a scientific paper.

　あなたの人生に健康そして洗練されたボディを後回しにしていませんか？体育として「バレエ」を学ぶことは大学教育でも珍しいアプローチで筑波大学オリジナルともいえます。この授業では、バレエの基礎テクニックから基本的な身体の使い方を体験し、自己の身体を観察・考察する機会を促します。さらに、歴史や作品鑑賞方法などを紹介。芸術創造の伝統と革新について知識を深め、最後の発表会では本格的な衣装を身に着け華麗に舞います。

　私たちは顔や声が異なるように、考え方も働き方も、生き方も一人ひとり異なります。例えば、当たり前とされている「男」と「女」という性別も、本来的には二元論ではなくさまざまな在り方があります。「仕事」と「生活」（ワークライフバランス）も人によって何に重きを置くかは異なるはずです。いま、世界はさまざまな困難な課題を抱えています。それらの課題は、もはや個人の力で解決できるものではなく、多くの人の知恵が集まることが求められています。多様な属性の人、多様な考え方の人が、その違いを理由に排除や分断されることなく、違いを価値に変えて能力を発揮できる社会を実現するには何が必要なのでしょうか。この授業では、私たち一人ひとりが個人の生き方や社会の在り方について考え、ダイバーシティ（多様性）について議論します。是非、みなさんのキャリア形成に役立ててもらえると嬉しいです。

「サイエンスコミュニケーション関連科目」渡辺政隆（広報室）

　自分の研究を社会に向けてどのように伝えるか、社会の中でどのように活かすか、社会の要請にどのように答えるかを常に意識し、そのために必要なスキルや意識を高めるための科目です。自分の研究を「わかりやすく伝える」ことだけが、サイエンスコミュニケーションではありません。しかもここで言う「サイエンス」は、いわゆる科学技術だけではなく、ヒューマンサイエンスすなわち人文社会科学も含みます。したがって「理系」だけではなく、すべての学生が対象となります。高等教育を収めるみなさんには、社会全体のサイエンスリテラシーを高めるための貢献も期待されています。

鍋倉賢治 (体育系)

　目標があるとき、皆さんはどのようにクリアしますか？特に到達すべき目標が高いほど、自分の現在地（値）を常に認識しながら、道筋を立て（計画）て、地道に実践するしかありません。すなわち、Plan-Do-Seeサイクルの繰り返しです。その最初の一歩は「チャレンジする」という意思です。この授業では、マラソン完走を目標に、マラソンが心身に及ぼす負荷を栄養学、生理学、トレーニング科学、医科学の面から学習し、11月末の「つくばマラソン」に出場します。半年間の授業やトレーニングを通して、自分の身体と対話しながら、ライフスタイルを改善することになります。「新しい自分」、「知らなかった自分」と出会い、将来への可能性が広がることでしょう。

「企業と技術者の倫理」掛谷英紀（システム情報系）

　福島第一原発の事故をはじめとして、技術者倫理が焦点となる事案が増えています。その一方で、経済のグローバル化による企業間競争の激化により、倫理的行動を実践するのが困難な時代でもあります。本講義では、単なる理想論に留まらない現実的な企業倫理・技術者倫理のあり方を受講者の皆さんと一緒に考えたいと思います。

「放射線科学―その基礎理論と応用」（01ZZ602）末木啓介（数理物質系）

　放射線に関する研究分野は様々に広がっている。本講義では2日間にわたって行っています。1日目は講義として放射線科学に関する様々な専門家をお呼びして、放射線に関わる基礎から最先端の応用までをコンパクトに講義していただいています。本年度は放射線に関わるリスクと災害にスポットを当てて講義を行ってもらいます。2日目はアイソトープ環境動態研究センターの教員による放射線および放射性同位元素を取り扱う実習を行っています。この講義を受けると放射線取扱のための初心者講習会の安全取扱いの一部が省略になります。大学院で放射線に関わる研究を始める方には一つの勉強のスタートになる授業となると思います。

「グローバル交渉と国際対話ー筑波英語模擬国連（TEMUN）」（01ZZ321, 01ZZ331, 01ZZ341）木田剛（人文社会系）

　「模擬国連」という形式を取りながら、「地球規模課題」について英語で議論し、ひとつの決議案を共同で作成していくワークショップがTEMUNです。異分野リテラシーと国際交渉力が求められる時代の要請に備えて、文理を問わず、さまざまな専攻に所属する国内外の学生が多く参加します。全学の学生が履修できるように、授業が行われるのは週末。いかなる場でもコミュニケーション能力は重要であるのは言うまでもありませんが、国際的な組織や職場、研究機関ではそれ以上に、立場や国籍、職業や専門分野、文化やジェンダーなど、自分とは異なるバックグラウンドの人びとと相互理解を図りながら、合意形成を行う能力やスキルが求められます。
