Pay Attention to the Follow-ing When Storing the Instru-ment Never place an object on the case thatmay apply pressure to the instrumentskeys or body. Never apply excessive force to theinstrument or case. Make sure the instrument is stored inits case when not in use. Do not warm the instrument with airfrom, or put the instrument close to aheat source such as a heater, furnacevent, etc.bassoon_om_003-064-080707.pm 08.7.7, 3:04 PM Page 27 Adobe PageMaker 6.5J/PPC28TroubleshootingThe tone is not clear, or the instru-ment plays out of tune.If pads are deformed and air is leakingfrom the instrument, take the instrumentto your dealer for repair. Never apply excessive pressure to thekeys. Also, when placing the instrumentin the case, make sure that nothing isplaced on top of the instrument. If the body cracks, take the instrumentto your dealer for repair. Sudden changes in temperature or hu-midity can cause cracking. Do not directlyexpose the instrument to hot or cold air.The keys are stiff. The keys do notmove. If a spring has become dislodged, return-ing it to its proper position may correctthe problem. When hooking the spring in position, becareful not to bend the spring. Springsmay become dislodged when perform-ing maintenance on the instrument orwhen wiping the instrument with a cloth. Please use caution. If keys are bent, take the instrument toyour dealer for repair. Do not apply excessive force to the in-strument such as dropping the instru-ment, closing the case when an object isplaced on top of the instrument, etc. Also, when you are finished playing, place theinstrument in the case. At this time, makesure that there is nothing in the case thatwill apply pressure on the keys. Whenassembling the instrument, be careful notto apply unnecessary pressure to thekeys. Hold on to the instrument in theintervals between performance and dur-ing breaks between practice. The joint is too tight or loose. If the joint is tight, apply a small amountof cork grease to the joint cork. If thejoint is still tight, apply some cork greaseto the receiver side as well. Changes in temperature and/or humid-ity can cause the cork to shrink or ex-pand which can make the joints tight inthe summer and loose in the winter. Af-ter you are finished playing, make sureyou store the instrument in its case, ratherthan leave it out.If the joint cork is torn, take the instru-ment to your dealer for repair. Proper application of cork grease offerssome protection against tearing of thecork. However, if the cork becomes torn, take the instrument to your dealer for re-pair.The keys are noisy.Apply key oil if the keys lack oil and aredry, and tighten screws that have becomeloose. Apply key oil once a month (1-2 dropsper location) to prevent abrasion. Also, since woodwind instruments have manysmall screws, check for loose screws andtighten if necessary. The cork or felt on the keys has fallenoff or torn. The instrument may have re-ceived a shock causing the keys to comein contact with the body or other keys.In this case, take the instrument to yourdealer for repair. Take proper care of the instrument toprevent the corks or felts from falling off. After playing the instrument keep the in-strument in its case. Also, hold on to theinstrument in the intervals between per-formance and during breaks betweenpractice to prevent excessive pressurebeing placed on the instrument or keys.bassoon_om_003-064-080707.pm 08.7.7, 3:04 PM Page 28 Adobe PageMaker 6.5J/PPCC[jj}7.|j|L=,Printed in Japan 2440630 0402PONK-A0This document is printed on chlorine free (ECF) paper with soy ink.
