If a student is misbehaving in your class you must decide whether it is appropriate for you to deal with it or for it to be referred. If anyone is endangered then it is too big for you and should immediately be referred. What are some examples?

If the behaviour is stopping learning but not endangering anyone then you must deal with it. What are some examples?

In the first instance try and use techniques that are non verbal and do not disrupt teaching flow.

Each teacher should have a behaviour book.

Put your seating plan in this book.

If warranted write the names of anyone who is particularly well behaved or persistently disrupting learning.

Pass the names on each week to your subject coordinator.

This is the technique for controlling minor misbehaviour. If a student is acting in a way that stops learning

1. Warn him2 Write his name on the board3 Put a cross next to his name.If the behaviour persists either send him to the social worker or write his name in your behaviour book.

At every point in this process the student has the choice to behave. You can for example decide to remove his name from the board if his behaviour improves.
