Ein mit einem Walkthrough1 beschriftetes Personenleitsys­tem führt das Publikum der Galerie DuflonRacz in der Alt­stadt von Bern von der Strasse her durch den ersten Gale­rieraum, und gibt in engen Bahnen den Weg zu den im zweiten Raum hängenden Porzellanobjekten vor. Die Por­zellanobjekte sind Nachbildungen von Portalen aus der Stadtarchitektur Schweizer Altstädte. Die Objekte sind mit einer Fliege verziert.

1 Anweisungen zum Gewinnen eines Computerspiels

Der Rückweg führt zum frei begehbaren Kabinettraum. Hier hängen 21 Miniaturzeichnungen von Tötungsszenen zwi­schen Kain und Abel. Sie wurden nach Darstellungen aus der Kunstgeschichte, jedoch nur «so gross wie eine Fliege» gezeichnet und sind frei im Format angeordnet.

Eine Ausstellung ist nach Verständnis von Haus am Gern ein «einsamer Kampf gegen das Schicksal». Da sich die Realität nicht eins zu eins in einer Ausstel-lung abbilden lässt, hat Haus am Gern zunächst den zu realisierenden Aspekt genauer umrissen und dann stark abstrahiert, denn es können nur diejenigen Teila-spekte gezeigt werden, die für den Ausstellungswitz als elementar empfunden werden. Daher sind die Aus-stellungen von Haus am Gern, sofern in der dritten Person gedacht, im Präsens gehalten, während die in erster Person gedachten Ausstellungen im Präteritum (Imperfekt) gehalten sind.Die fortschreitende Verbesserung der Idee erlaubt es Haus am Gern jedoch, den Grad der Abstraktion immer weiter abzusenken. Dies hat auch Konsequenzen für die Genres der gezeigten Werke: Eine Ausstellung von Haus am Gern kann durch ihren Detailgrad heute meh-rere früher abgetrennte Genres gleichzeitig zeigen. Dies erlaubt dem Betrachter z. B. die Wahl zwischen einer aktionsreichen oder eher verstohlenen Sichtwei-se, anstatt sich auf eine einzige definierte Sichtweise zu beschränken. So begleiten Haus am Gern‘s Ausstellun-gen die BetrachterInnen vor allem bei der Verteidigung und Aufrechterhaltung ihrer eigenen Würde und Ehre.

Haus am Gern perceive any of their art shows to be a "lonely struggle against fate". Since no exhibition can render a one-to-one illustration of reality, Haus am Gern set about a clear definition of the aspect they in-tend to realise before proceeding to a strong abstrac-tion. In their view, only the partial aspects that are per-ceived to be elementary to the point and wit of the exhibition can be displayed. Therefore, any exhibition by Haus am Gern, insofar as they have been conceived in the third person, are presented in the present (ten-se), while any exhibitions conceived in the first person are held in the preterite (imperfect) (tense). The continual improvement of this concept, however, has allowed Haus am Gern to gradually reduce the de-gree of abstraction, which also has its consequences for the genres of works on display: these days, owing to the degree of detail, an exhibition by Haus am Gern may well present several genres side-by-side that would previously have been separate; the shows are no longer restricted to a single, pre-defined angle. This leaves the viewer with a choice between an action-packed interpretation, for example, or one that is more furtive. And this is how Haus am Gern‘s exhibitions first and foremost accompany their viewers in their de-fence and upholding of their dignity and honour.
