Just for KidsTheAlexanderCountyLibraryoffersawebpagejustforkids.Acollectionoflinkstowebsitesprovidingfun,referenceandhomeworkhelpisavailable.Thereisalsoinformationaboutallofthedifferentprogramsoffered.Picturesandvideosfrompasteventsarealsoavailableforviewing.Note:Whilewehaveattemptedtoprovideinformationforsitesthatare“kidfriendly,”wecannotcontrolthecontentthatmayappearonthesesites.

Baby Time – IntroduceyourbabytothelibraryandtheworldofbooksonthefirstThursdayofeachmonthduringtheschoolyear.Babytimeisgearedtowardinfantsfrombirthto12months.JoinMissMelforstories,songsanddancing,fingerplays,andrhymestocreateaspecialbondbetweentheparentorgrandparentandbaby.Noreservationsarenecessaryandtheprogrambeginsat10a.m.

YA-YAs (Young Adults Reading Young Adult) – YA-YAsisabookclubforhighschoolagedstudentsthatmeetsonceeverymonthduringtheschoolyear.Theyreadbooksfromseveraldifferentgenresincludingtheclassics,contemporary,andsciencefictionamongothers.Thisisagreatprogramtobeapartofifyouareateenagerthatlikestoreadandhavefun.PleasecallMissMeltofindoutwhenthegroupmeetsifyouareinterestedinparticipating.

Preschool Story Time – Forchildrenagesbirthtofive,therearetworegularlyscheduledpreschoolprogramsperweekduringtheschoolyear.JoinMissMelasshereadsfunstories,dances,andsingsforpreschoolstorytime.ThetwoprogramsareonTuesdaysandFridaysat10:00a.m.Bothprogramshavethesamethemeandacalendarisprovidedeachmonthwithdates,themes,andtimes.

Teen Poetry Happens (TPH) @ the Bean – HighschoolagedstudentsmeeteachmonthatTheSpilledBeancoffeehousetosharetheirart,music,poetryandprose.ACHSEnglishliteratureteacherBethDuncan,artinstructorRobinIsenhour-Stewart,andMissMelguidestudentsthroughthecreativewritingandartisticprocess.Meetingsbeginat3:30p.m.Checkthelibrarycalendarformeetingdates.

Summer Reading Program – Eachyearduringsummervacationfromschool,theAlexanderCountyLibrarysponsorsasummerreadingprogram.Manyactivitiesandprogramsaredesignedaroundacentraltheme,providingchildrenawaytokeeptheirreadingskillssharpforthenextschoolyear.Childrenagedbirthto18areeligibletosign-up.TheprogramgenerallyrunsfromJunetoAugust.Aschedulewillbepostedatthelibraryandonthewebsitetokeepeveryoneabreastofwhat’shappeningandwhen.Sign-upsbegininMay.PleasecontactMissMelformoreinformation.

Library Cards –Atagefive,childrenmayobtaintheirfreeAlexanderCountyLibrarycardwithaparentorlegalguardian’ssignature.Childrencancheckouttheirownbooks,CDs,andusetheInternet(underadultsupervisionuntiltheageof13).VHStapesandDVDscanonlybecheckedoutonanadultcard(age18orolder).

There is a $5 replacement charge if you lose your library card.
