CIR Report Coordinator of International Relations Daily Life Report

The first time that I heard

about the existence of

Coordinator for International

Relations was when I was a

senior in college. My professor

made an announcement about

the JET Program application

and talked about ALT position

and details, as well as also

mentioning the CIR position.

Before then I had never heard

of what a CIR was. After class I

walked up to her to ask more about the JET Program and before I could say anything she said,

“But you would be applying for the CIR position, right?”

After that I listened to presentations from former JETs and the Japanese Embassy. I was

planning on taking the Japanese Language Proficiency Test but because of the timing of the

test I wasn’t able to take it before I submitted my application. I felt confident that my Japanese

was N2 level or higher. I requested the letters of recommendation from my professor and good

friend from the American Embassy in Tokyo, wrote my personal statement and had a few

mock interviews to

prepare.

I wanted to become a CIR

so that I could come back to

Japan to travel, work and

study more Japanese. I love

the difficulty of the

Japanese language, its and

culture and am always glad

to serve and help the

people of Fukuroi City.

私が初めて国際交流員の仕事の存

在について聞いたのは大学４

年生の時です。日本語の先生

がジェットプログラムの申込

について発表したことをよく

思い出します。ALT の仕事内

容と、今までに全く聞いたこ

とのない CIR の仕事について

話しました。授業の後、先生に

先ほどの情報について聞こう

としたら質問する前に先生は

「ジョンさんだったら CIR で

すよね」と言ってくださいま

した。

その後、元 JET 参加者の ALT

と CIRの発表会や在米日本大使

館の関係者からの情報もいろいろ聞きました。もともと日本語能力試験を受験するつもり

でしたが、中々時間が合わなくて試験を受けることが出来ませんでした。しかし、日本語能

力試験の N2 レベル以上の

自信はありました。日本語

の先生と在日アメリカ大使

館 の 仲 間 に 推 薦 手 紙 を頼

み、申し込み論文を書いて

模擬面接をやって準備をし

ました。

元々国際交流員となるきっ

かけは日本に戻って働き、

日本語を勉強することでし

た。日本語の難しさも、日本

の文化も好きです。袋井市

民を助ける仕事に携わる機

会にも感謝します。
