Parental Roles and Responsibilities

Digital Citizenship- Powering DownAccording to the Common Sense Census: Media Use By Tweens and Teens (2015), “On any given day, American Teenagers (13 to

18-year-olds) average about nine hours of entertainment media use, excluding time spent at school or homework.” (p.15) The survey

also concluded that tweens (8 to 12 year olds) use an average of six hours of entertainment media daily. The survey further revealed

that, “Many teens multitask with media while doing their homework, and most think this has no effect on the quality of their work.” (p.

Have times built in to the day when students “power down” and have face to face interaction. RCE will have “Power Down” times before school and at lunch. Device use will not be allowed.

We encourage “Power Downs” during family meals and other meeting times at home as well.

Inappropriate materials include explicit or implicit references to:

● Alcohol, tobacco or drugs● Gangs● Obscene language or nudity● Bullying or harassment● Discriminatory or prejudicial behavior● All of the above is tracked on the student Devices!

Inappropriate Content- Monitor Use of Device

● Devices and provided cases are SDPC property. ● Students are not to write on them, cannot put decals

on them, and they should be returned at the end of the year in the same appearance they are now.

● Students should treat them just like a school textbook that is issued to them. It is NOT their own personal device to keep, so please review this with them at home.
