There is immense buy in from CouncilManagement so far so that budgetaryprovision has been made for the

mentioned initiatives for the financial year2011/2012, in terms of action plans andproduced by the Council, stakeholdersand the Community

HAS THE COMPLETED STAGES 1 6?INDICATE TIME - FRAMES

Yes.

Stage 1 & 2 was completed on 7-8 June2010; where Council and management

gave go ahead with the COE at theCouncil. A situation Analyses was alsodone there at stage 2. Which I am told bythe Mayor that it was presented to them by

Genderlinks Country Facilitator.

Stage 3-4 was completed with Council, stakeholders and community on 27-29 July 2010.

Stage 5-Has been completed on 11 February2011

Stage 6- was aimed at 16days GBV Campaignon 29 Nov 2010 (case study has alsocompleted)

Stage 7- Case studies were collected for theSummit. Rehoboth Council has submitted the

COEs.

IS THERE A HIGH LEVEL GENDERCHAMPION?

Veteran Councilor Her Worship Deputy Mayor C.C Sherally-McNab.(062-521800) . She was the former winner of

the Mayoral awards winner 2010.

They are both in certain committees such as

water-point, housing, HIV and Aidscommittees. We also keep sex disaggregateddate to find out how many women and men doattend these meeting. Before the Council did

not consider these date, but with GL workshopthe Town Council can now implement someof the Action Plan and prioritized thereof.

RESOURCES FOR GENDER

MAINSTREAMING? Council, Management is fully aware of theCapital and human resource needs torun social upliftment initiatives of this

magnitude, thus the 2011-2012 budgetaims to include for GBV relatedinitiatives in such regard. The townsCouncilors are all new. They are nowduring this period guided by the CEOand management on GL projects here.

Article 4-11 Constitutional and Legal Rights- to

enshrine gender equality and equity. Article,on governance-prioritise womensrepresentation and participation at Counciland management levels.

LESSONS LEARNED

By prioritizing critical areas in the plan e.g.provision of housing, de-bushingriverbeds, providing safe havens etc., willbe key to implementation and replication.We need to target rural areas. It is mostneeded there as well.
