there are about 200,000 left. • The Asian’s had 100’s of thousands and now

there are 180 left in the world.• Lions roamed Europe, Asia, North America, but

are now only on Africa and Asia .

• Males average weight is 400 lbs • Females average weight is about

300 lbs.. • They are about 9-10 feet long• Its coat is a light tawny colors

used to camouflage• The male is the only to have a

mane, used to attract females and threaten other male lions.

Yumm!This Zebra is only part of my meal. I also eat Impalas, waterbucks,

hares, porcupines, tortoise, and buffalo. Although, the female

does most of the work I am the one that eats first.

• a lioness gives a scent when wanting to mate.. • Female have about 2-5 cubs • Cubs are born with spots that fade as they grow• take seven years to reach maturity• All the lions form a group called PRIDE• A pride may contain from 5-40 lions• Males come and go from pride, they have to fight

outside males and if they are defeated they have to live alone or find another pride

• lions mark their territories boundary lines by urinating, scatting, scratching, or leaving anything with its scent.

• In Asia, the lion live in captivity on a reservation called Gir Forest They also live in the grasslands of India.

• In Africa their family can be located in south-central or east Africa They live in Kenya, Africa, savannas grassy plains) and open woodlands

• The grassy plains they live in is also referred as the African veldt

• Also, the lion can survive on the Kahari desert During wet season the land is green and partly flooded but in dry season it is barren This effects their behavior.

• Vocal: roar-heard 5 miles away• Repertory system: gets oxygen through the windpipe to the lungs

• Humans affect the lion by killing it for fur, taking its habitat to ranch and farm, poaching and taking the lion out of its original habitat to study the lion

• For the lions’ offspring, their threats are hyenas, jackals, and other male lions that want to date .

• When they are injured or starved other attack them and they become prey.

• The subfamily is Pantheriae, their genus is panthera and the species name is Leo, but the common name is lion The lion is divided into subspices.

• The ones that are extinct are Transvaal Lion which was locate in tranquil,the Cape Lion (Cape Natal) and the Barbary Lion(North Africa).

• Some lions that are endangered: Angolic Lion(Zimbabwe),Asiatic Lion(Gir forest, N.W. India)Masai Lion(East Africa), The Senegalese Lion(West Africa).

• “Kings of the Beasts” lives on grasslands • The lion is the 2nd biggest cat out of Big Cats• The lion is most active at night but they also come out during the day • They wash each other with their tongues and this helps to

strengthened bodies and spread scents. • They are very sensitive to vibrations in the air so people who have

cats can get a warning before a disaster happens.• They are also adaptable to weather: In cold they have thick fur and in

hot weather they have short pelt. • The lion gets about 19-21 hours of sleep • During sleep the lion rests on high tress which help them escape

from insects • The female, as mentioned in other sections, is the core of the pride

and very needed
