DO NOW V: 0Monday Identify the following as an example of Speed,

Velocity, or Acceleration.

1) Miguel is dribbling the soccer ball down the field, but quickly stops to let the defender go by.

2) Anna is walking toward school at 5 m/s.3) Simon is driving down main street and then turns

left onto 1st street.4) Kristin sprints 8 m/s.

TEKS8.(6)(C) investigate and describe applications of Newton’s law of inertia, law of force and acceleration, and law of action-reaction such as in vehicle restraints, sports activities, amusement park rides, Earth’s tectonic activities, and rocket launches.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:How do we calculate and communicate the change in position, direction, and speed for moving objects?

DAILY OBJECTIVES:Describe the background of Isaac Newton and his life.

DO NOW V: 0Wed/Thrs

In your INB, draw a distance vs. time graph for the scenario below.

Phil is on a boat and drives away from the dock at full throttle. He then looses control and flips out of the boat coming to a complete stop for a few seconds. He then climbs back in the boat and drives it back at half speed.

QUIZ ON FRIDAY

Force and Acceleration Lab V: 2

BB vs. Golf Ball

- Students will flick a BB across a table.- Students will then flick a golf ball with the same amount

of force.- Students will record their observations in the data table.- Students will then increase the amount of force applied

to each and record their observations in the data table.

Force and Acceleration Lab V: 2

Ping Pong Ball vs. Golf Ball

- Using a book and a ruler, students will create an inclined plane.

- At the end of the ruler, the students will place a cup upside down with the cut out side facing the ruler.

- The students will release the ping pong ball 3 times and record the distance the cup moves.

- Students will repeat the steps with the golf ball.- Record the data in the data table.

Force and Acceleration Lab V: 2

Forces applied to a car

- Students will place a toy car in between 2 rulers.- Using a popsicle stick, they will apply a weak force to

the car and record the distance it travels. Repeat this 3 times.

- They will then apply a strong force to the car and record the distance it travels. Repeat this 3 times.

Newton’s Laws Foldable V: 0

Create a three-fold foldable for Newton’s Laws.

Students will read pages 208-209 from the textbook.

After reading, the students will complete problems 16-18, then add the formula, definition, and a picture with a description to the foldable for the 2nd law.

Teacher Demo V: 0

Teacher will demonstrate the BB vs. Marble in a test tube.

The students will draw a picture and write a description beneath the data tables on the Force and Acceleration lab sheet.

Newton’s 2nd Law Practice V: 1

Students will practice using the formula

FORCE = MASS x ACCELERATION

Dry Erase Board Practice V: 1

Dry erase board practice for quiz on Friday.

Mr. Brunner is moving a couch in his house. The couch has a mass of 120 kg and Mr. Brunner is able to make the couch accelerate at 3 m/s2. How much force did Mr. Brunner push the couch with?

TEKS8.(6)(C) investigate and describe applications of Newton’s law of inertia, law of force and acceleration, and law of action-reaction such as in vehicle restraints, sports activities, amusement park rides, Earth’s tectonic activities, and rocket launches.
