This set of assessment papers is designed to allow for the assessment of all four
language skills under the same theme, and is appropriate for average-ability KS2
students in Hong Kong.
Based on the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’, the assessment papers are devised
to develop a familiar context for the students. This set of assessment papers

9 Shorts 2010 – 2014: student-created short stories for reading and appreciation
This e-resource package is a celebration of five years of student achievement in
Shorts: A Short Story Writing Competition. The publication will also serve as a

appreciating a variety of short stories written by student writers in Hong Kong.
All of the selected stories were prize-winning entries in the Shorts competition

21 Shorts 2010 – 2014: student-created short stories for reading and appreciation
This e-resource package is a celebration of five years of student achievement in
Shorts: A Short Story Writing Competition. The publication will also serve as a
valuable resource for students and teachers who are interested in reading and
appreciating a variety of short stories written by student writers in Hong Kong.
All of the selected stories were prize-winning entries in the Shorts competition
from 2010 to 2014. They have been edited to varying degrees for readability
and to enhance their appeal and usefulness as instructional texts for the Short

The package, "Biographies of Famous People" puts a modern twist on the
traditional text-type. Historical figures are replaced by modern celebrities from
Hong Kong and the world of entertainment. Students learn how to write a

“Giving Back” begins with a classic story titled 'The Giving Tree'. The story
introduces learners to environmental issues which examine human nature and
our impact on sustainability. A sequel to the first story titled 'Giving Back'
continues the narrative by introducing a new generation through the life of a
grandson and his relationship with the giving tree. Learners are motivated to
explore the environmental theme through stories, audio and video clips,
magazine and newspaper articles and other visual texts from the Internet. This
